In 1999 I visited my uncles house with my family near Madrid. At some time, way after lunchtime, my elder cousin was listening to this song in his bedroom. I was 12. He was 20. I wrote down the name of the song. I had never ever heard a sound like that. Now and ever since, it's one of my favorite songs. And I'm so happy it introduced me to the rest of BoC.
Over 25 years later and this track is still creating intense feelings of emotion. Nothing like some BOC while alone looking out into the surrounding world
This is one of these songs you can listen to at 6 AM, when you wake up and yet don't have anywhere to go, with the first sunbeams of the day falling upon your face. So peaceful and calming...
1:13 out of all my favourite BoC moments, this one has to be the most poignant in terms of its ability to invoke the most visceral feeling of nostalgia I have ever experienced.
listening to this while walking on the beach alone and think about life and how shitty, good it can be. Just do your thing, dont wait, if it fails, screw it, don't care, be neutral and don't let n'a thoughts taking part of you
the distorted vocal sample is saying "bonds". it's a reference to the national film board of canada which made movies about a Blood indian named Pete Standing Alone
I live in Canada and in grade school they would show us films that were made by the film Board of Canada alot of these sounds seem to be from these videos most of them were short nature type documentaries.
True, I listen to crazy experimental progressive rock, smoothe atmospheric DnB, trip hop, acid jazz.. etc I guess always listening to music outside of the popular genres and having an unquenchable thirst for trippy music is what lead me to BoC. I only started listening to them yesterday
Oh, that blessed first chords. Love forever from the first look. I feel like it's something distant riding in front of me on asphalt road somewhere between dark green trees.
Last year I was tripping on shrooms by myself in a park on a sunny day. During the onset this track came on, it was the perfect introduction to what was to come. I remember the clouds in the sky forming an armada of glowing manta rays. Moments never to be forgotten!
I get into deep thinking when i listen to this track Boards of Canada are new to me having listening to rave and trance all my life This is really nice
+Jon Groves Yep Jon, i think everyone has that same connection with BOC, sort of being taken back to a hazy, distant but familiar relaxed place..... :-)
+Jon Groves To me, certain songs have more resonance with certain parts of my childhood and past also. Like this song, for instance reminds me of all the times in the wilderness of Montana and Idaho that I would become totally introspective without even realizing it, like I'd be standing there outside looking at the sky or something, and then there would be this sort of mellow somber daydreaming state that would steal over me, and my mind would take me to faraway places for a bit.
he's vine-laden and weighing heavy; the mass of tendrils bogging his mind and vaping the bitty brain cells being peeled and flicked one by alone bursting triggered by light
llevo escuchando esta canción desde que está en la primaria por eso del 2007 , esto si era el youtube de esos tiempos , está canción me trae muchos recuerdos de mi infancia cuando jugaba con mis amigos por las tardes y escuchábamos está canción.
If it is a word that is said it's more like 'Volume'. Definately not 'orange'. For one thing, they used 'orange' on 'Aquarius' I think it's more likely that the voice is an indistinguishable syllable that just worked with the tune! Beautiful tune though, one of their very best. Saw them live twice, best two gigs i've been to!!
This song shows that at times the album, while inherently ambient music actually borders on IDM and the breakbeat of Aphex Twin. While I don't like the word IDM it is good to use as an overview for the early 90's phenomen. The early 90's had the greatest influx of music since the 70's. Great times that make me wish I was there.
+Ganondorf Which ones of Squarepushers works have left you unimpressed? Just out of curiosity, it seems like people who like the first two seldom dislike Squarepusher.
Kitaroija The two songs "Come on my Selector" and "The Exploding Psychology" have left me mostly unimpressed. I don't know, maybe his works are just too hectic and fast for me. I have to admit though, his song "Beep Street" is okay to listen to, although a bit repetitive.
Don't get me wrong, I love Boards Of Canada so much. But I've been listening to them now for about 2 hours and I'm starting to feel rather odddddDdDDDd
Goede vraag :) (Good question) I think, and I don't mean to act elitary or something, people who have a good ear for music, or at least this kind of music. People who realy feel it. Non-standard if you want... The ones that like to look further into the art of music, broader than pop, and found BoC. Their music has made the most impact on me than any other music has. When I listen it's always an adventure. Into one's self, or other places. Lol, trippy. I don't do drugs btw. Peace.
jus discovered the secret, but i jus keep it any tension on my mind, let the bud release it after all these years i fuckin need it no control like im drunk n speedin hits somebody n flees when a mans hit, left bloody n seizin this is the muddiest season sand pits, seems like we dug to deep in now we cant climb from the hole somethin keeps suckin us down from below but i jus get lifted off the sound of a flow floatin in a sea of music, surrounded by notes
@HoopSquare Cheers ma ninja! raising a spliff to your good self as I type :) check out "Corc" and "Rae" by autechre also, u won't be disappointed, both tracks r in similiar vein to this one

Scotland is the architypally perfect location to breed this kind of music. Transcendental indeed.
One more magical track ! Love this one more and more im getting older 🎉
Over 25 years later and this track is still creating intense feelings of emotion. Nothing like some BOC while alone looking out into the surrounding world

Pete you’ll never walk alone jc from Liverpool ❤
1:13 out of all the beautiful tracks by boards of canada, this moment has to be the one that most strongly delivers nostalgia to me.
fuck I just realised I have been listening to this for 20 years and it still sounds brand new.
Is that right, I been listening to it for 3 years and for 57 year I did not know it existed.
1:13

Not made for words, for words cannot express how much BoC fans love this music and how much BoC rules in general.
listening to this while walking on the beach alone and think about life and how shitty, good it can be. Just do your thing, dont wait, if it fails, screw it, don't care, be neutral and don't let n'a thoughts taking part of you
This is actually the best philosophy I’ve ever heard

If a picture is worth a thousand words, you could write a novel with the picture any single Boards of Canada track puts in your head.
haha pete's waking up in a bush.
I live in Canada and in grade school they would show us films that were made by the film Board of Canada alot of these sounds seem to be from these videos most of them were short nature type documentaries.
You're spot on. Pete standing alone was the gentleman in "circle of the sun"

Ich kann bei diesem Lied immer auf Knopfdruck weinen. Es tut als gut, wenn man so einen Track kennt.
Congrats you found it!

I knew Pete standing alone. What an interesting man.
my favourite thing to do for the last year has been to mong out and listen to boc whether high or not....love em
TO ME BOC ARE LIKE HEARING THE MEMORY OF A SONG FROM YOUR DISTANT PAST,CHILDHOOD.THATS AS CLOSE AS IM ABLE TO PUT IT IN WORDS...
+Jon Groves Yep Jon, i think everyone has that same connection with BOC, sort of being taken back to a hazy, distant but familiar relaxed place..... :-)

Like nostalgic and futuristic at the same time
Where has this been my entire life?

i always think olson and this track are the perfect combo

MY DOG IS NAMED PETE. HE IS A SWEET OLD DOG
YES
Funny you should say that, the title is a reference to a trilogy of NFB films by the same title, which is about the Blood native reserve in Alberta.
i found this from a video in my psych course. banger song
They did live in canada for about a year in their childhood.
Their songs are an experience and in many ways so dark/weird. I "get" them though and I really dig them.
Nice work! Keep at it!
BoC is the most potent audio hit you can take, its hefty stuff
very high thc
UA-cam definitely needs a repeat function.

I need music that does more than just move your body
The voice is saying "bonds".
yes
thats interesting, 'pete standing alone' is a really strange name, i want to watch that film. thanks :)
He was a real man.watch circle of the sun.
It sounds like it has kinda voice samples from the old Bitmap Brothers game Gods, early Atari ST/Amiga game?
I've always thought the voice was saying 'one'. Seems more appropriate to the song title anyway.
Stabby you magnificient bastard
Goede vraag :) (Good question)
