This track is from one single live performance. A performance that was never supposed to be recorded. If we were never supposed to hear this, think of what other live tracks we may have never heard. BoC are amazing, yet so very frustrating sometimes.
Boards of Canada: Type of band to create a banging track that is only featured in a live concert and never released afterwards, and then proceeds never to play live again. Goddammit, lol.
From my understanding (hopefully I’m not wrong) most if not all of their music was made for the enjoyment of family and friends. It seems to some extent even now this is still the case. Which is why some of their music is still yet to ever be released for large distribution and sale. Also I think BoC just believe for what ever reason that their earlier stuff is unsuitable for the public.
Oh wow... Somehow I can't say I'm all that surprised, considering their overall presences, but man. Can't really blame them either. But as long as they do acknowledge their music has influenced (and continues to) the life of not just their friends, to a pretty large extent.
@@kaylemkerr6989 the BoC brothers are perfectionists when it comes to their music. My guess is these tracks were made without public expectations taken into consideration which would explain why they dont want anyone to hear them outside of their family and friends. (Or until they polish their back catalogue to fit the quality of their mainline studio albums)
If this is ever released, it needs to be the official mix. It was never supposed to exist, but was willed into existence by people that loved it (the brave soul that recorded it at the concert with bouncers and Machinedrum who mixed it).
I often cry to BOC, always overwhelmed by the atmosphere....and leave me behind with a happy and positive feeling....Happy that there is art like this....because art it undoubtedly is...
@@secretdrone literally from Machinedrum himself "Since I am a huge nerd I decided to take this bootleg recording and re-produce it for fun. Using the recording I laid new drums over the existing drum patterns (almost 100% accurate to original), replayed some synth parts and the bassline. The only thing I didn't try to re-create was the original vocoder parts and some random samples so I used the original bootleg recording for that."
I remember hearing this track from the original live set and being blown away even then. This remaster is so tastefully done. Great job, and thank you!
this is too damn cool to be even exisiting its like a track about that girl you see in another car when u were young and it makes u wonder what is out there in this life. and all the other times u fall in a euphoric prism of marvellous sail aways
Fuchk Geemale Indeed, in my opinion, this mix takes something that was once annoying in the original recording and turns it into a sample that becomes part of the song, in a very BoC way. The guy making what sounds like a very enthusiastic comment at 10:38, (The comment Benjamin referred to) perfectly timed after the song ends and before the rest of the audience starts cheering is a favorite moment for me.
John Hooke John, yes I agree. I should clarify my comment intended to refer to all of the audience sounds based on how Machinedrum placed them into the background of the mix. The timing of that particular audience member was especially memorable however. I don't think you could ask for anything better from a live recording.
Mate I just found it today and I’ve been a massive BoC fan for around the same amount of time. I was working at Juno records back in 2000 and heard about them then. This track is bananas!!!!!
Tom Williams -- couldn't agree more! They are PURE GENIUS. How can they keep so much material hidden from their adoring fans!?!?!?!?! It's just not fair!!! Still I ADORE them.
It's a shame they didn't include the John Peel voice parts at the start of xyz on the vinyl, over the years I listened to it, it sort of became part of the track
There's some rumours around that this song is actually Infinite Lines of Colourful Sevens off the elusive Play By Numbers EP. If anyone ever finds that, it'll be interesting to see how this compares.
2023 this track still slays. Boards is one of those groups that shows up, makes an album that inspires a generation of artists, disappears for 12 years and then appears from the mist and does it all again.
It's funny, for a band/group that has Canada in the name but is from Scotland...I instead am reminded solely of the southwest states.. especially four corners area, Albuquerque. Probably because I had them as my playlist on a trip there last year. Their music is the perfect complement to that scenery: wide-open landscape and ever changing horizons, long sustained, orange pink red gradient sunsets accompanied by the backdrop of mountains and rock formations. Almost as if the music was made for that.
I feel you. But listen to left side drive, tell me what you feel. I feel lake tahoe, herb heavy root beer, smooth stones, cascade range moss wet dripping, wind whipping, safe in my car, left side drive
Their parents moved to Canada when the brothers were younger (which I'm guessing how they developed the obsession with the Film Board Of Canada) I may be wrong here, but I think they returned to Scotland later on. 👍

My favorite unreleased song from Boards of Canada
Close to being my favourite BOC full stop.
Up there with Redpoint, Romeda and LSD.
Hell, a new album with all the unreleased tracks from their shows would be the holy grail.
I just CANNOT get enough of this track!!! Right now, THE BOARDS are RUNNING MY LIFE!!!

No. Not new, but much MORE into them. I love "Music Has The Right To Children". I admit, I have slept HARD on these guys.
