The fact that the moral of the children's book is "surround yourself only with people who love you and ignore the haters" is 1) very much a thing onion would write, and b) a message that I do not trust in the hands of a PREDATOR.
Yeah same, especially when the description implies that “You don’t have to fix your own bad traits, just find people who will tolerate them”. Given the context of Onision…yeah.
I probably wouldn't think twice about that in almost any other children's author's hands. When you're a kid, "Surround yourself with love and ignore the haters" is honestly a fairly solid message because most "haters" a kid would have would be over dumb shit like hogging the monkey bars at recess. It's literally just not worth their time.
But when the author clearly still reminisces about being in high school (but redoing it so he's the popular good guy, of course), he acts like a teen and dates teens... nah.

@@user-mv5zt8qd9l the thing that sucks about this bastard's writing is I can't tell if Morges is right and the duck has to resort to renting the shit-roof house because there were no other options and then the landlord evicted him for smelling bad, or if the duck already smelled bad so he rented the shit-roof house thinking it was the only place he would fit in.
Both of these completely change the story. Either he worsens due to his environment or he purposefully digs himself in a hole so that no one can pull him out unless they jump in the hole with him.
Don't get me wrong it would be a good message for the kids if it isn't made by a piece of shit

it's not only maddening because onion wrote it, but also because children deserve better? so many people think children will just consume whatever shit story/drawings and enjoy it, but children aren't dumb! they deserve good stories.
Agreed. The "Oh, it's for kids" excuse for bad media drives me up the wall. I write adult stuff and YA stuff, and I have to say that sometimes, the YA stuff can be even harder to write than the adult stuff, because it needs to be understandable to kids, but then have the hidden depth to keep adults interested.
Honestly, good childrens' media is what helped shape me as an artist and person - when it was well written and challenging to my little brain, it made me think in ways I never had before. I cry for kids who only get the lowest denominator crap because alongside parents, teachers and peers, the media they consume is going to be one of their biggest influences.
You could consider it sweet that he wrote a children’s book because he has kids, until you find out there’s a story in the very recent news about a woman who wrote a book for her children about dealing with grieving a loved one who passed because their dad died, but it wound up that it’s the mom who killed him
And the fact that his daughter fell headfirst out a second story window and the first thing Mr. Jackson thought to do was FILM HER to cover his own ass!

"Let me take [object] off your hands" is an idiom we use to basically say "I want to have ownership of [object]". We mainly use it when someone is selling/trading/giving something away

It looks like he literally did all pictures in his work in one day, all on MS paint with the paintbrush and fill bucket tool.
I actually used to draw in MS Paint as a challenge to myself. It’s actually really clear that’s it’s all done in Paint, bc the tools in Paint are pretty distinct. The brush he used here 9:59 on the pink and green lines are obviously the paintbrush tool.
He probably had a drawing tablet too, bc you can see some flow in the curves he draws, it’s not choppy like would happen if he used a mouse. Poor guy got a Wacom just for this.

It still sounds a little weird in this god forsaken book though, as if he was doing the farmer a favor by taking pickles. There's no relief of burden at all, the pickles were free. Just a weird way to use the phrase.

We shouldn't shame anyone for being a beginner artist when they're an adult. Being an adult doesn't automatically make it easier to draw. BUT, we are allowed to shame people who think their beginner art is worthy enough to be sold for money when there are thousands of actual good artists that don't make any money. Onision is delusional if he actually thought his art was good enough to be in a children's book.
I also find it very hard to believe that someone with UA-cam notoriety (regardless of whether it's positive or negative) would be short-changed to hire actual artists to illustrate their story.

Taking something off of someone's hands is a fairly common idiom. It's similar to "lessen your load" and means helping a person out by doing something for them/taking away something unwanted or inconvenient. The clearest and least metaphorical use would be physically helping someone carry stuff because they're holding too much. However, it is a bit weird and awkward to use that phrase in this context because the farmer didn't seem to need HELP in getting RID of his pickles, so you were right to call it out
I love that this story manages to all but explicitly teach the motto of "if it smells of shit everywhere you go, check your shoes" while trying to preach self-esteem

The moral of the book should've been that if you stink you should TAKE A BATH, not just find OTHER stinky people to hang out with!! Taking something "off of someone's hands" is offering to take something the other person seemingly doesn't want; usually something they have an overabundance of.
The imagery of it is like if someone were literally carrying all of those items by themselves and you're offering to take some of the items (out of their hands) to unburden them.
