“The biggest advantage of extremism is that it makes you feel good because it provides you with enemies. When you have enemies, you can pretend that all the badness in the whole world is in your enemies and all the goodness in the whole world is in you.”
One of the biggest problems today is people's inability to "agree to disagree". It's all tribal now, you're either one of us or the enemy. We can disagree and still interact and get along or even, gasp, be friends. People need to be more mature online. Just because you're anonymous doesn't mean you are not culpable, there are still side effects to this tribal mindset and we are seeing it all the time. This last election is as far as you need to look for evidence.
so what you're saying is liberals are the problem lol. because that lack of ability to "agree to disagree" doesn't exist with independents, non-partisan people, or republicans.
I love when developers hate gamers and say it publicly. It helps me avoid games by people who hate me, and I can give me money to others who deserve it.
Guys there’s always going to be a left and a right side to everything. The problem is expressing every single stupid thought online and expecting no repercussions. Back in my day we kept politics to ourselves, close family and friends. Peace.
Also they/them are only there because of the DEI program which gives studios ESG dollars. Trump promised to get rid of that program, which is why they’re freaking out.
If he does manage that miracle we'll get the see a industry wide purge of DEI. The mass layoffs so far will pale in comparison. Also hope he goes after Black Rock & VanGuard for starting this garbage.
This is their response to us not buying the recent games filled with propaganda and grooming. They are lashing back out because voting with our wallets has impacted them significantly.
They seem to miss the fact that you don’t get to choose your audience. You can try catering to the audience you want, but there is no guarantee those people are going to buy what you’re selling. The bigger mistake is hating the ones that do.
The problem is when “investors” start applying DEI programs for Environmental scores for funding. Funny part I study corporate law and DEI programs really go against EEO laws. DEI programs and initiatives are one of the huge problem in society in general.
So you're confusing, DEI, with ESG (Energy, Sustainability, Governance). Which is kind of funny since you say you study corporate law. ESG, has nothing do with DEI in of itself, now does it revolve around corporate law, or even gaming. DEI is moreso an HR related initiative with the goal of inclusivity or better understanding of different backgrounds in the workplace. What it's BECOME, is a hijacked right wing talking point, lumped under the word "Woke"

I think it's the same with every form of entertainment. Once something becomes super popular, suddenly it has to appeal to everyone. Which means more rules, less room for creativity and risk. Now everyone must be represented in all things at all times no matter the cost to the original artistic vision. I think a prime example of this is if you have a look at Nintendo adverts of the decades. Back in the 90s when the industry was a little more "exclusive" the adverts were crazy usually with a comedic theme. In the last decade or so as Nintendo have pushed to gain a wider audience their adverts have become safe and stale. I swear the last advert I saw for the switch looked more like a therapy session than an advert for a video game console.
It is the Publishers fault for not Enforcing Strict Rules that a Developer cannot comment on Social Media, Cannot appear on Videos, Cannot Write for any Magazine, Cannot insert their Own Personal Politics or Sexual Depravations into the Game, and Cannot do *anything* that may Harm the Image of the Publisher in any way, shape, or form!
Nah, the internet existed in the 90s and 00s, I was there for it. We had our forums and boards and chats. Some of them pretty major. And this wasn't any real problem back then. Only really the last decade.
Isnt weird how a company that makes a product , turns and attacks the very customer base they depend on to buy that product and remain successful and in business?! Where in business school do they teach this? These are multi billion dollar publicly traded corporations many times too. You would think as greed filled profit driven as they are, this would be the very last thing they would ever do, and anyone employed by them that did , would be quickly fired. I guess in 2024 , business 101 school says : "push your own ideology into all your products and services, when customers dont like it, attack them publicly online and shame them. This is the path to a bright and successful financial future." Idk.. sounds like a lot of big investment firms are setting these big corporations up to fail, to then buy them out penny's on dollar when their stocks crash and burn... but that's just my theory..
I think respectful discourse is important, however, I think it's wrong to flat out alienate the fan base. From a business stand point, it doesn't make sense because they end up turning people off from their brand. Causing them to lose out on potential profits.
Yeah, this reminds me of a phrase I used to hear a lot (not so these days) "You don't like the people you work with or have to work for, then quit and go be happy, then maybe we'll get someone who is happy to be here."

It's been said a bunch of times already but blame the investors. I work in finance and have seen how they bully companies they own a stake in, it's not cool. The richest most successful asset managers (like Black Rock) have more money than most countries. They don't care about making a return, they'll gladly drop a few billion dollars to influence a game dev into pushing their agenda. It's disgusting, but the investors are the ones who hate us. The game devs are just caught in the middle of it.
No no no brother. It’s these hateful spiteful EVIL devs that get online and spew their hatred. They also work hand in hand with media. So they aren’t innocent at all

Now politically motivated hate is one of the quickest ways to move up the social media chain... it's also one of the ways to be polarized and make tons of people want to avoid you. The path to working in a sales based industry is to have the largest widest net to draw in the most customers. Find a car salesman who's going this and you'll find the car salesman that's living out of his car. One should relate to their consumer as best they can.
I think the problem is that all art, no matter the medium, is inherently manipulative AND no audience wants to be preached to… unless you’re already sitting in the choir. Sometimes, you get great art with a message, like Casablanca. A masterpiece of a film with the intent to motivate or prepare Americans to join the fight in WWII. It’s both art and propaganda. Nintendo has said that a goal is to bring joy to its audience, and honestly, that’s why I play their games. Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart, Wii Sports, and Final Fantasy on the NES with friends from way back in the day, some of the best times I’ve ever had playing a game. Creators who want to imbed a pro social message into their art almost always fail (there’s a decade of bad pro-social cartoons between ‘75 & ‘85 as a testament to that), unless they hide the message in the story, like Dickens’ A Christmas Carol or Spartacus (the movie, not the series), or The X-Men. To do that, the artist/writer(s) would have to be exceptionally skilled. The audience will always see through ham-handed attempts to manipulate and react negatively.
I stopped buying games at launch, i stopped buying crappy games in general. Thanks in part to tons of game reviewer youtubers helping me make an informed decision, but also because alot of these games are just bad, visibly so in the trailer lol
They started to hate gamers when woke became a thing. They focused on pushing agendas rather than making good games and stories and then blaming gamers when they don't like it. They tell gamers not to buy their games then blame gamers when no one buys their games.
You only notice this in the Western gaming industry, you don't really notice this from Korean, Chinese and Japanese devs because they understand what consumers want and how to make good games. The western gaming industry keeps shooting it's self in the foot and will eventually collapse.
This isn't true, YOU'RE only noticing this because you're the from the west, listening to western discourse. But, Korea, China, and Japan go through this too. There's tons of games, movies, and media, that are altered for localization when are published in those countries, OR are marketed a different way, to cater to local audiences.
@ragingtyga This holds no weight, given the western gaming discourse and how Korea, China and Japan are giving gamers what they want and games they enjoy, the devs aren't going on Twitter and calling people racist, insulting skin color or throwing consumers under the bus. The western gaming industry has been a joke for the past three years and it's steadily gotten worse with each passing year. Eastern gaming is saving the video game industry, currently, how many western games flop, inject DEI into games, have the developers go on tyrade online against potential customers that end up not getting the game because of the antics they pull. Do I need to bring up what the avowed art director did recently and how he basically had to delete his posts after having a mental breakdown? He basically told White People not to play his game or buy it, then he went after Elon Musk and Elon Musk clapped back, then injected politics by saying, support our game if you're for the "ultra woke mind virus"
@@ragingtyga This is America. They always alter stuff from Japan so. The whole country is woke itself. And this is coming from someone who's a Western person. This isn't new.

I feel the industry was always in the dark about girls playing video games. I am older than RGT and was a kid when Nintendo was born as a game console in the West. Us girls played all the games boys played. As for the logic in the woke movement, don't look for it, you won't find it. They want inclusivity but reject people who fit the majority norm, they want to feel morally superior, but they cannot empathize with people who are different from them and insult them. Emotionally, they are toddlers who still don't know what they want for breakfast or if they need a nap. There should be woke studios who make woke games for woke gamers. I'm all for it. They need to make their own games and leave us alone.

Zelda Echoes of Wisdom is the only one that may come close. RGT talked about this months ago due to Zelda being the MC and posts that were negative about it. But it’s debatable that the game is actually a ‘good’ game.

Thank you, this fucking needed to be explored as a topic... so many in the gaming industry hate their customer base. It's something that has been brewing for over a decade... and it kinda started with movies/tv first and gamergate... once it became acceptable for studios to fight back against critics on the internet, it is now the norm.. companies don't have to stay quiet and just accept criticism anymore, they can actively fight back and label people... and there is a sizable part of the internet that enjoy that and participate in it
Its like you read my mind dude. This is a comment Ive been leaving on gamer channels 👇👇👇 The way these game devs have been acting lately, I wouldn’t be surprised if these devs at rockstar are just withholding information from us out of pure spite because all the nasty and troll comments they get under their social media accounts. You see how the god of war dev has been acting, the avowed dev, devs at project red and other companies having these hissy fits. It really wouldn’t surprise me if rockstar just went silent too because they are in their feelings over us only caring about gta6. There is no reason rockstar hasn’t given us info on this game, I dont care what anyone says. And people say “its too hard to make a trailer” but that argument gets destroyed everytime they make dlc and dlc “trailers” for gtao. But we cant get a couple screenshots for gta6?? They are mad they got hacked and are having a hissy fit, plan and simple
Take out DEI Hires and policies, and companies like Sweet Baby inc, and Hire actual game developers... you wont have this issue to this extent. Take back college campuses from woke ideology and find a way to diminish Blackrock hold over banks and things will change fast. To your point about actual diversity the knee jerk reaction is do to woke ideology forced onto us its not about story. actual diversity is not a problem when the story is there and the characters are compelling.
I think the feelings go both ways given the countless death threats and etc I have seen gamers send to development studios or individual developers online. There are some bad apples on both sides but I would like to think most people wouldn’t stoop to that level of toxicity.
I don't think developpers should speak at all, that's the community or marketting team's job, your job is to develop the game and not spread ideologies, that's what you've been hired for... at least used to be.
companies should hold these people accountable for their actions and make sure it doesn't repeat again, because at the end of the day, it's not mr narsisist speaking, it's the company speaking, that's how people will always perceive it, "oooh, did you see what Obsidian wrote on x???" and i haven't seen studios taking care of their image too, which makes us think even more that they in fact agree with these statements.
It's their long game- they want to formally and permanently raise the price from $60 to $70 (same as when we went from $50-$60) for the base game, which they've done. And they don't want us to be able to wait 2 years for discounts anymore to pick it up for $5-$10. They'll just delist the game if we aren't willing to buy the $70 game and spend another $50-60 for DLC. The WWE release is a perfect example- if you bought it on launch, it was $60-$120...if you waited till now, you can pick up the entire game for about $60 on sale, so what does that tell everyone who paid full price. We fought back during SWBF2 (when you spent $60 and didn't have access to all the playable characters) and mostly won..and it's now a $6 game if you still don't own it. That's what all this is about now in my opinion. And doesnt even include the game having pointless mechanics (like acrobatics in SW Fallen Order and Survivor) or having a female character wearing Han Solo clothes to intentionally appeal to certain audiences.
I've basically stopped buying full priced AAA games because I can get so much amazing indie stuff for $15-$25, or less on sale. Waiting years to buy a Nintendo game for $42 instead of $60 just doesn't seem worth it anymore.
I thought he was talking about mouthwashing devs hating on asmongold when he said the game was awesome and was encouraging his followers to check it out and one of the devs went insane.
That happened to us on the way from the Warped Tour. The lady at McDonald's barely served us and then called the cops saying we trashed the place for no reason. If that was a gated community use a bigger sign
I would say that ever since the late 2010s, we have let the wrong people into the industry. We all fell for their Trojan Horse and are now reaping the consequences. Like video games are for everyone. HOWEVER, we still need the passion and effort back. In the 90s and 2000s, they gave us some of the greatest games because people had passion and innovation. Nowadays, modern games are the equivalent of content slop.

“The biggest advantage of extremism is that it makes you feel good because it provides you with enemies. When you have enemies, you can pretend that all the badness in the whole world is in your enemies and all the goodness in the whole world is in you.”
that goes so hard
One of the biggest problems today is people's inability to "agree to disagree". It's all tribal now, you're either one of us or the enemy. We can disagree and still interact and get along or even, gasp, be friends. People need to be more mature online. Just because you're anonymous doesn't mean you are not culpable, there are still side effects to this tribal mindset and we are seeing it all the time. This last election is as far as you need to look for evidence.
I agree
so what you're saying is liberals are the problem lol. because that lack of ability to "agree to disagree" doesn't exist with independents, non-partisan people, or republicans.
This realization is 10 years too late man.
I love when developers hate gamers and say it publicly. It helps me avoid games by people who hate me, and I can give me money to others who deserve it.
My backlog is so large, I can survive without buying a new game. The industry cannot survive me (and you) not buying games
@ exactly
Metal Gear Solid 2 wasn’t trying to socially engineer and grandstand. It was just Kojima being eccentric.
Probably around the same time politics, and THE MESSAGE became more important than a good story, and gameplay.
Video games aren't there for everyone 🙄 they aren't there for anyone. They are just there when they are there.
😢 deep 😢 it is what it is
Yeah but barely anyone complains about games like MGS2 because real diversity is NOT the problem.
Guys there’s always going to be a left and a right side to everything. The problem is expressing every single stupid thought online and expecting no repercussions. Back in my day we kept politics to ourselves, close family and friends. Peace.
We've all heard the left's side enough, and it's crazy. Crazy isn't a valid side to hear from.
This*
So you're confusing, DEI, with ESG (Energy, Sustainability, Governance).
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha waaaaaah

The western games industry is cooked
Game devs: "This game isnt for everybody. If yoy dont like it, then dont play it!!!"
Also game devs : "Why is nobody playing this game??!??!??"
I swear the last advert I saw for the switch looked more like a therapy session than an advert for a video game console.
very true.
They started hating us, when the internet gave us the ability to call them out on their bs, and hold them accountable.
Couldn't agree more
Facts
Yep.
Preach it!
Nah, the internet existed in the 90s and 00s, I was there for it. We had our forums and boards and chats. Some of them pretty major. And this wasn't any real problem back then. Only really the last decade.
It's was the same with comics, where the artists/writers started hating on the consumers
It's helped me save so much money. But game devs should be appreciative if people buy their games
I guess in 2024 , business 101 school says :
"push your own ideology into all your products and services, when customers dont like it, attack them publicly online and shame them. This is the path to a bright and successful financial future."
Idk.. sounds like a lot of big investment firms are setting these big corporations up to fail, to then buy them out penny's on dollar when their stocks crash and burn... but that's just my theory..
I think respectful discourse is important, however, I think it's wrong to flat out alienate the fan base. From a business stand point, it doesn't make sense because they end up turning people off from their brand. Causing them to lose out on potential profits.
I.E. "Go Woke Go Broke."
they hated us from the start. These games are just meant to distract us and steal valuable time we could be spending learning new important skills.
It is starting to become a Cesspool of dev's and journalist's all stroking each other and pointing the finger at gamers when we don't like something.
Yeah, this reminds me of a phrase I used to hear a lot (not so these days) "You don't like the people you work with or have to work for, then quit and go be happy, then maybe we'll get someone who is happy to be here."
My dad was into video games until he was on the last boss of Blaster Master and us kids ran through and tripped over the power cord and reset his game.... never was the same again lol
As a dev myself, gamers these days are the worst.
^^^ found the liberal smh
It's ok when their studio goes broke and shuts down .
It’s the equivalent of saying I only want to sell my lemonade to my best friends sure you might get away with that but your gonna be out of business or less profitable in a era with long dev cycles and more expensive games yeah I wouldn’t gamble on limiting my base.
They're getting what they ask for: games flop, massive losses, reputation damage, 'innocent coworkers' get laid off and the studio gets closed. Good riddance.
When they decided to become woke and call people crusty white dudes. The Avowed art director destroyed his game.
They already lost your purchase the minute it was declared woke, so I don't think you feeling insulted made much of a difference
Oh, you dear summer child. This has been ongoing a LOT longer before than just now with Avowed, lol
@@acdoob I canceled my gamepass because of the way they handled themselves. I don't use it enough and im not going to give away money to those that hate me.
When they realised gamers didn’t live in their echo chamber.
The type of DEI training you have to go through in the corp work may determine if people are being programmed to becoming intolerant without realising.
Because real gamers hate dei and the devs hate gamers who are against that garbage that’s ruining games.
When they discoverer that gamers kinda hate the concept of “A game As A Service”. Which is the future of the industry in the sick mind of editors.
Which companies is he refering to?
Fel like the best solution is to take some time offline. Meet some real and normal people and just enjoy things without all the discourse
They are making a game for a modern audience that doesnt exist, and alienating their actual audience.
So they aren’t innocent at all
I'm not a "woke" or an "Anti Woke" I'm just an average Human being Who likes Video games and the Opinions of People who play Video games...+ Your Other Content...👍
This topic has been beat to death. Don’t like a game developer then support one you do like. I’ve got more games than I can ever play.
Then these companies have the nerve to get mad when gamers go retro or enjoy their giant backlog of games that aren't garbage.
5:55 bro LMAO
Now politically motivated hate is one of the quickest ways to move up the social media chain... it's also one of the ways to be polarized and make tons of people want to avoid you. The path to working in a sales based industry is to have the largest widest net to draw in the most customers. Find a car salesman who's going this and you'll find the car salesman that's living out of his car. One should relate to their consumer as best they can.
Gamers are literally paying their salaries lol so they better shut up and behave.
Brilliant to hate your customers who give you money for a product
It started with the introduction of miles morales and the idiotic reasoning provided for his creation

You only notice this in the Western gaming industry, you don't really notice this from Korean, Chinese and Japanese devs because they understand what consumers want and how to make good games.
The western gaming industry keeps shooting it's self in the foot and will eventually collapse.
Nah even the Japanese companies are going in the direction of the western companies now
This isn't true, YOU'RE only noticing this because you're the from the west, listening to western discourse.

Great video, RGT. Things definitely changed since we were kids in the gaming community and industry, that's for certain.
When normal people decided to ignore politics
Insulting your customers is one of the dumbest ideas any businessman can do
Developers can do whatever they want. I believe the risk of criticizing potential audience won't outweigh the rewards if modern sales indicate anything.
I know they hate me because I don't buy their season pass micro transaction laced rehashed remastered rereleased copy of a game we already had every time they sell one.

Anyone remember 2014? It started a bit before then. Game journalists are dead.
They need to make their own games and leave us alone.
name 1 recent game release where people have "cried" woke over a woman in a game but the game was actually good (you cant, because this is an overused argument by people who try to fence sit this issue)
Zelda Echoes of Wisdom is the only one that may come close. RGT talked about this months ago due to Zelda being the MC and posts that were negative about it. But it’s debatable that the game is actually a ‘good’ game.

THIS!!!
My man, you just unlocked a core memory of me waking up Christmas morning and unwrapping my PS1 DualShock Edition, Resident Evil Director’s Cut and Resident Evil 2 that I’d been begging my parents for for MONTHS. Damn, I’m having a moment here lol
Thank you, this fucking needed to be explored as a topic... so many in the gaming industry hate their customer base. It's something that has been brewing for over a decade... and it kinda started with movies/tv first and gamergate... once it became acceptable for studios to fight back against critics on the internet, it is now the norm.. companies don't have to stay quiet and just accept criticism anymore, they can actively fight back and label people... and there is a sizable part of the internet that enjoy that and participate in it
You really are the Eddie Kingston of Video Game UA-cam. “I really don’t like any of the people around me but I can show respect” Love it haha
Its like you read my mind dude. This is a comment Ive been leaving on gamer channels 👇👇👇
The way these game devs have been acting lately, I wouldn’t be surprised if these devs at rockstar are just withholding information from us out of pure spite because all the nasty and troll comments they get under their social media accounts.
To be fair, I’M A GAMER who OFTEN DESPISES other gamers.
So we can not hire the blacks and gays because they hurt your feelings.
And that's why I respect you, RGT. Much love
I think the hate has started to show cuz consumers have a voice now more than ever and wallets are thin in the industry right now 😂
My thing is this. DON'T START NOTHING!
WON'T BE NOTHING!!!!
These are the type of topic videos from you that I always click on. Good vid
Woke isn't about diverse casting. Its about the trans, pronouns crap, racism messaging...its stuff that's destructive to society.
Crazy for them to hate gamers when their money determines whether they keep their job or not.
