I so much appreciate someone who cares enough about our history to restore a TV like this so we can see what they were like and how they worked! "History deserves to be remembered." Thank you so very much for doing these things and for posting for us to enjoy!
I had a similar model Zenith in my bedroom back in 1964. The 16AP4 tube was weak and it had a brightener on it. It was OK to watch in low light. I bought it for $8.00 but I got hundreds of dollars worth of entertainment from it. I remember late night spooky movie shows and Sherlock Holmes movies. Today I have two Zenith porthole sets but I wish I would have saved the one I had in 1964. Back then I could have bought a NOS 16AP4 tube for it. Thats very hard to find today.
It could be not picture tube issue, in zenith tv many factors can cause low brightness and contrast of the image: video amp signal could be weak, RF modulator, also some resistors and capacitors need to be replaced. If all that not helps, then you can use picture tube booster
Oh that is superb . It is a thing of beauty . Nothing like that here in the UK. Zenith made some amazing radios and TVs . Wonderful to see that one working . Great restoration job . I know the amount of time and effort put into doing that . Thanks for sharing it . I am green with envy !!!
This video made my day!! So cool to see someone restore and appreciate this technology. Thank you for doing what you do! What movie/TV show you were playing with the girls singing?
I like that switch all a circle / or horizontal black line. Years later they add a frame with the shape of ( ) rounded lateral and flat upper and downer of screen. Greetings from 🇨🇱
I would buy one if I had extra money! How would you get a channel now days since they got rid of bunny ear analog tv stuff? I miss the old tvs of my youth!!! Thank you for working on them and caring.
@@FranLu-qs2xv RF modulator can be purchased on Amazon or eBay, and that device converts todays digital to old RF signal to be able watch old analog TVs
Question for someone recently getting into the history of analog/RCA TV sets and thinking of becoming a collector... out of curiosity, would you happen to know what years this would have been primarily the height of popularity? I'm vaguely aware that porthole TVs were actually somewhat short lived in their own time, when furniture TVs of the 50s swept them away.
I have the ‘49 model but it’s drifting now and I can’t find anyone local (Missouri/Southern Illinois) to repair it. I was on a waiting list for someone but he had to retire due to health issues before my turn came up.
Todays days no more analog broadcasting are available, and to be able to watch analogue TVs need to use digital to analogue converter box or RF modulator with HDMI or RCA input and you can able connect any video device of todays days

I’m glad to hear that. Thank you !
I wish I could find someone local to rebuild my Hoffman set :(

Interesting to look back at technology from the 20th century(and that’s coming from someone from the 21st century).
My dad was a senior exec for them. Great company. The quality goes in before the name goes on
It's hard to imagine that we use to make electronics in this country.
Lots of electronics are still made in North America. People would rather buy cheap shit from China.
I saw a Setchell Carlson table top TV in the background. We had one of those when I was a small child. I loved that TV.

@@novavisionny I owned that set back in the mid 1960s and at that time I was not doing any electronic restoration work on vintage TVs like I do now.

I'm kind of amazed at how good the picture looks. It looks better than some of the modern colour CRT's I've had over the decades.
I want the cabnet so bad!
Great vintage tv😄
It`s hard to imagine that even up into the early 90`s, the largest tubed TV was a 25 inch set.

You need to use RF modulator for that

Beautiful
Back in 1948, people didn't turn "on" or "off" their television sets -- they just opened and closed the set's cabinet doors.
I think the brown knobs for channel and volume are reversed...
beautiful Zenith brazil

I'm curious to what this originally sold for. 🤔
From $300-600 it’s equivalent to todays rate about 10 times higher
