Hi Bruce! I'm glad to see you back again. I was concerned . The youtube machinist community would be at a loss without you. You use some of the greatest setups for machining that I have seen in my 30 plus years around shops. I found that a high speed steel tool with more top rake didn’t chatter so much also run a bit slower.

Very nice to see the Kearns in action, it looks a lot later than the one I have been using with all that electrickery attached, I would think you would eliminate the resonance with a HSS cutter ground to a different rake/clearance angle. Nice to see you back in action.

boy you have some nice toys Bruce, When you made the 0.005" rear adjustment I was expecting to see you lock the adjustment in. Enjoyable video, thanks for sharing.
+Bundy Bears Shed It is an amazing system (Old English precision). There is no locking device at the rear, because it can work automatically as well, or you can keep tweeking it on the run. I don't have the parts book so I don't know how the mechanism works, only that it is something special. The facing chuck has a taper key with a retention stud that you can lock the nose exactly on centre for centre boring work that is how I used it till this operation required the facing function. the chuck also has two small locking bars which I use as well if needed. Bruce.
Take it easy Bruce, you only just got the new machine and already you are near maxing it out!
At this rate you'll soon need something the size of that small jig bore Les has in his tent.
Hi Bruce. I've just come across your channel looking for Kearns Borers, love yours. Looks to be in excellent condition. I'm based in Brisbane QLD with my own machine shop. Just a heads up on your cross arm for the boring tool and the chatter. I have a Wohlhaupter Universal Boring/Facing head for my Huron Mill. It has collars that mount on the cross arm both sides of the head and retained with a heavy washer and bolt in the free end of the arm to increase the diameter thus stiffening the bar. Simple but clever. Go to the Wohlhaupter site and look at the parts lists for clarification. Hope this is of help and happy maching.

Ive done this type of work before and have found that given the space you have ..if you were to set a couple of stays to put pressure on the back of your cut it would help
