- Hello friends, in this video I tested the typical Slovak breakfast and there is one thing I really didnt like!
You guys know that I love slovak food and I have been trying a lot of the traditional Slovak food in my past videos, but this time, I tried the typical slovak breakfast and there is really one thing that stand out to be my most hated slovak food so far hahaha :D
It was a hype, I really thought I would like it but I didnt :D

Chleba vo vajicku is leftover meal. Used to be done from old bread that got harder. Not from fresh one.

Kaša is indeed kind of baby food, it's yummy good vegetarian meal. Majka and rolls (flat breads) are good options if you are not cooking. It's simple and effective snack while on the move (hiking), Granko is very good for morning, now you know why it's in TV commercials so often haha. Egg bred is also easy to make, try garlic and some cheese triangles with it (karička type). You are the first person who I know that is eating the fish salad for breakfast hehe, but why not. I like these salads one a week for lunch/dinner. I recommend the one in Billa, try to combine it also with some chilli salad they also make. Now I got hungry, so time to go downstairs for my breakfast 🥐 ☕ ps: don't forget morning coffee ☕

@@ChasingKimberly try another type, then. the combination of mayonese and amount of fish needs to be in balance that fits your taste. Some fish salads have whole pieces of fish, some have it shredded. This is also the cheapest variant for breakfast, so it's perfect budget option.

I just stumbled upon this and Damnn it made me hungry 😄 I'm Slovak but currently living in England and I haven't been able to go home for over a year now because of Covid and I didn't realise how much I missed something so simple as rožky and párky and krupicová kaša... If I have to have something Slovak in my fridge, here in Canada, it's Slovak mustard. Driving 50-60 km to specific European deli store to buy it. Good video.

@@dedge1191 Česká už má mnoho variant, od výbornej po extrémne kyslú. Tá extrémne kyslá vznikne asi vtedy, keď ju mieša niekto extrémne opitý. 😕 Kupujem ju v Bille v sklenenej fľaštičke, balenie má, myslím, 200 g.

Hi! Great video! Usually you dont want to know what is in parky :D it is usually the mix of leftovers, but due to new standards you cannot call it Spisske parky unless it contains certain percentage of proper meat and it is a trade mark, so if you buy parky. Spisske parky is the best. For the bread in the egg, it is my favorite breakfast dish, on top mustard and onion. Oh, now I am hungry again :D

This video has brought me back to kindergarden, where they used to give us so many kinds of spreads for breakfast. They were really able to make spreads of everything! :D For example, they used to make spread with yeast (droždie in slovak, i hope I translated to english right). Nobody liked it, it was really smelly. I know that this is food that is usually made, but I still find it little weird. Oh, and jam or honey spread. They mixed butter and jam or honey together and put it on rohlík. As a five year old kids most of us liked rohlík more than bread, so we was really excited when we got jam or honey spread, because it was only kind of spread served with rohlík. :) At home, we used to eat bread with butter and honey or jam too. But we've never mixed it together like in kindergarden.

Chlieb vo vajicku si definatelly the best. Treska is called as food of students (because it is easy and cheap). You should also try vyprazany syr (fried cheese). I made half a kilo so I have food for couple of days when I was in Netherlands with other international students and it was gone in 1h because everyone wanted to try it :-)

Treska with rohlík and pivo(beer) is often called as "Slovenské McDonald menu" or "Slovenský McDonald" with comparison of hamburger and coke.
The bread in eggs is better made with 2-3 day bread, not with the fresh one. Some of us dip it in milk for a second or two before diping it in eggs. You can spread mustard or ketchup over bread too before covering it with eggs.
Treska je pre nás obľúbená asi preto, že je to lacné a rýchle jedlo a je možné ho zjesť aj bez použitia taniera.

You can slice rohlík in half put butter and granko on top of it. This is how i used to eat it as a child ☺️ Always brings back memories to me ☺️ Nice videos 😍 i really enjoy watching them 🙂

Krupicová kaša is originally made from krupica then it has better texture. You can combine it with butter, Granko and powder sugar but you can change cinnamon or chocolate for Granko ;) If you have enough fantasy you can use vanilla sugar instead of Granko :)

There's only one way how to eat "treska" properly and that's dipping the rohlík right into it and then take a bite as it is!!!! :) A bit messy, but that's how we do it.
Kim, when I visit Slovakia, my friend took me also to the mountains and on way we visited her family close by. Her aunt give us for breakfast (as one of few options) bread heated in the pan (as you did with the eggs, but it was just plain) and then she took it out and just smeared with garlic clove... That one was interesting for me. The other interesting was huspenina with vinegar and chopped onion and bread. (I think, this one can be also other day meal.)
I just googled huspenina and and it looks so weird 🤣 I never tried it before 🤔

I have a hemendex (ham and eggs) with rohlik at breakfast almost every morning. With tomatoes. Try Prešovský kabanos instead of Spiš sausages. Of course with mustard.

After this video I went to a shop and bought treskovy salat (codfish salad) and some rolls. It was delicious. Treska was kind of fast food I remember from communist era. As a student on a budget I bought 200 grams of treska and 5 rolls in a fast food buffet and I was full for whole afternoon.

few notes, just to be more specific, not to disagree.I'd say "krupicova kasa" is a meal mostly for kids, Majka for breakfast is desperate solution if you really don't have time for something else, Treska was something like fastfood for students and "chlieb vo vajci" is usualy flavoured with garlic.Also I think scrambled eggs or ham & eggs or bacon & eggs is pretty common breakfast meal in Slovakia.Even my small corections, these really ARE breakfast meals.You made very nice videos and I wish you the best : )

@@ChasingKimberly im allergic to potatoes and milk so my breakfast is mostly bread with mayo or olive oil but many peaple eat bread in egg chleba vo vajci and add ketchup or sweet chilly which is my solution becouse I am allergic to tomatoes too but its really uncomon and many peaple drink tea or coffe but I am soya milk cocoa person

Spišské párky is actually very high quality product.
Before mass production it was made just of pork, salt and paprika.
The most important thing about it is that the meat is inside ram intestine :).
Hi Kim, you should definitelly try typical slovak style salads - like "parížsky šalát" or "vlašský šalát" combined with "feferónový šalát". Those are the tastes of Czechoslovakia.
And one more thing - blue treska is trash... try red or golden and you will be surprised.
Granko is a must have in every home! :D and what is inside Majka?? You dont wanna know 😂😂

Mozem ti povedat co je na ranajky na filipinach. zhruba to iste ale na miesto chleba ryza. chlieb vo vajci som tam jedol tiez ale uz bol sladky. neviem ci je tam vobec mozne dostat normalny chlieb aky my pozname, co som videl tak to bol toastovy chlieb ale osladeny takze chutil ako velkonocna paska bez hrozienok. uplne bezne su na ranajky parky, volske oko, ryza, male klobasky - chorizo (osladene :)), tocino = bravcove platky (nieco ako u nas slanina ale neudene, vyprazene - tiez osladene :) )

one small recommendation for your next krupicova kasa...in addition to Granko and butter try to add some forest fruit - strawberry, raspberry, blackberry...if frozen, ideally boiled beforehand, if necessary add some sweet syrup

So I don't know because in every family and regions is different. In my family We never eat Krupica for breakfast. Or any of this type of food. Maybe sausages and roll or gypsy bread with garlic .We have scrambles with onion or leço with chorizo,ham and eggs. Lots of slice salami,cheese,bacon with rolls or bread somertimes butter. 500ml yogurt. Spreads of million types or mayo salads. Or simply bread and onion with the butter or duck fat. In the summer vegetables. Winter picked veg.
Whats inside spisske parky? Well its used to be a traditional recipe that only a single company had a trademark for but after it got bankrupt every other company started to make their variant. But the overal content is mostly fatter pork meat salt pepper and paprika. Horcica recipes are also different by brands, but its usually just crushed mustard seeds with spices and vinegar.

when I was in sweden they was always suprised what we eat on breakfast :D they have something light like yogurt or sandwich ... and we (Slovaks) we always eat like eggs,bacon,sausages,liver pate...and my friend from Turkey always asking like why you eat lunch food on breakfast? :D

I tried all of them few times, time to time... I'm not eating the same thing in the morning every day.. and I would add few types of breakfast which are eaten a lot in Slovakia:
1. volské oko - fried egg, vajíčko na tvrdo - hard boiled egg, you can eat with ROŽOK (that's correct, not rohlík :D) or bread + better drink juice than coffee or milk, with me it have toilet effect :D
2. opečený chlieb s maslom - toasted bread with butter + glass of milk with honey, or caffee
3. vianočka s maslom a medom/lekvárom - christmas bread(some sweat pastry) with butter and honey/marmalade + milk/coffee
These are often eaten for breakfast too, sometimes yogurt or even some fruits.

If you liked this kind of horčica, I'd recomend also trying out kremžská horčica. It has more bite to it. I like to spread a bit of it on top of slice of bread with butter and put ham or salami on top.

try kakavko with vianočka s maslom (sweet white christmas bread with butter) - combination of sweet bread with salted butter and sweet cocoa milk is famous! yummy... and spisske parky - it's spicy mixed pork and beef, very traditional recipe for 100 years...

Fun facts about "krupicová kaša" - in middle ages, porridges of all kinds were the most common meal in Bohemia, eaten by both young and adults. We were famous for it, and sometimes ridiculed for it by foreigners. And today's kind of "krupicová kaša" used to be served in 19th century weddings at Giant mountains region of Czechia. Well, not with Granko, but with cinnamon, sugar and dried fruit. It was deemed as the best and most luxurious meal of the wedding, and people described it as the "most heavenly dish you can taste in this world".

Parky are usually made from guts and leftovers like skin etc., spisske are kind of mix of beef and pork but its usually a low quality meat, kinda like salami

You should’ve gone for treska in red packaging (not blue) red one contains more fish and less mayonnaise. I wish they was selling treska in uk🇬🇧 😭 It’s my childhood right there on the table 😃🙋♂️

Ano, a lot of people told me to try the Treska red unfortunately I havent had the chance to try it, I have to do it soon! :)
Treska v majonéze was created in the 50s when the communist govt of Czechoslovakia realized Slovaks were not eating enough fish and that the fish on the market were expensive. So they made this cheap processed cod in mayo. It was and is sold only in Slovakia.
The best Treska is the one which is red...so named Exlusive :) much better than this blue one...and last but not least try "parky" with ketchup too :D
