- In this episode I am located in Slovakia touring a village called “Lysá pod Makytou” which is a village and municipality in Púchov District in the Trenčín Region of north-western Slovakia close to Púchov. I was searching where I could find Traditional Slovak food in that region and the locals directed me to a place called “Salaš Nimnic.” My choice of traditional Slovak food was Halušky s Bryndzové halušky is a traditional dish with dumplings which is known as Knedlík which can be foods in many Central and Eastern European cuisines such as Austria, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Lithuania, Romania.

I grew up in the US (Pennsylvania) and was raised by my grandparents. Their parents were from Slovakia and we would have Halusky quite often. I do plan on visiting Slovakia for a future video and am looking forward to the food! I just found your channel and subscribed thanks for the awesome video!
Awesome 🙂
Very nice but where did you get bryndza from ? 😀
@@psychatekk My grandmother made it differently, with cooked cabbage and PA dutch noodles and butter. It wasn't the same at all from what's authentic. My guess is that her recipe was passed down from her parents, but the ingredients changed due to the great depression in the 1920's, therefore no cheese - and noodles instead of dumplings.
@@Klesh you right, thats far from real slovak brindza. U definitely should go to slovakia and try real brindza to feel diference. :)

I am hungarian my husband is slovakian and we live in Nederland. I love Slovakia and Halusky. Thanks for your video. 🤗🥂
Your husband is Slovak, not Slovakian. There's no such word Slovakian.
@@robertberes1251That's true thanks for pointing it out👍🏻
Awe nice, Slovak food is my favorite, My Grandmother came from Slovakia to USA 🇺🇸 she married my Hungarian Grandfather and I'll never forget her Slovak cooking and she made Hungarian ❤️ Seeing this makes me miss them. 😊 Nice enjoy it
I'm from Czech Republic from Roznov pod Radhostem and we also like to eat Halusky.... Then there is also Strapacky, which are halusky mixed with sour-kraut. Also very very delicious. I even remember having halusky or strapacky regularly in our school cantine. They are pretty much a staple in our region as well.
Hi André! This is Andrés, from Argentina. I had the honour to live in Slovakia, in Kosice, during 1994. Met wonderful people and friends. Slovaks are the best! What you post is really awesome, I am enjoying your videos a lot. If you haven't already, please visit Kosice, it's a very beautiful city. Wish you all the best! Another beautiful city i visited was Levoča. If you like wines, visit the Tokaj region in the south, by the hungarian border. Outstanding! Cheers!

I'm glad that you visited traditional place like Salaš. Your reaction to bryndzove halušky was the same I had when I was a kid and tasted it for the first time, one of my favourite foods. Wish you good luck on your journey.
Much appreciated 😎
You made my day with this video. Amazing !
Slovak touristic association should use this video for promoting Slovakia as holiday destination for foreign tourists :)
I agree 🙂😎
As a Slovakian, I love our Halušky too. 🇸🇰😋

Halusky jsem nemel ani nepamatuji, musim znovu zajit nekdy na Hampstead do Czechoslovakian pub ;-)

Enjoy Andre . It is you that brings out the reason for the locals to posture up and meet up greatness.
By the way, "Salaš" isn't the name of a place, but it's just the "type" of the establishment. Historically, a salaš is basically a "farm house" type of thing, but nowadays that term is often used for restaurants that serve local cuisine. It's like saying something is an inn or a pub.
Love the videos!

Hello André, now you are on a crossroad on the quest for discovering and also tasting the original Slovak beers, since you have already tried Zlatý bažant. You can either go to the east to taste Šariš or to the west (or south, since you are in Púchov) to taste Corgoň. Even though you seem to prefer villages and local atmosphere, I would still suggest visiting Trenčín and Nitra (where Corgoň is originated), beatiful castles in both towns with a lot of history and culture. Also according to the local legend, Corgoň was a very strong blacksmith who threw massive rocks to defend Nitra from the Tatar invasion, if you close your eyes and touch his statue, he will grant you a wish ;) or a beer, who knows
