  • One of my friends wants to teach her children some beginning sewing so she asked me to make a tutorial for her. So that she and her children can learn this and are able to review it several times. These are fabric yo-yos also known a Suffolk's puffs and Buttons in USA during the 1930'sand 1940's.
    sunshinescreati...
Other useful info on my blog: If you just want to see some examples here are all the posts on my blog about yo-yos alot of them. In these examples you will find how to lay them out what some ideas are for things I have used them in. Also there are tools out there if you want fancier ones. Some talk about other people that do yo-yos, examples of vintage yo-yos, there is a lot of info on here. Have fun searching through it all. Also good luck teaching the girls you will need to let me know how it goes.

This is the easiest way to begin to make a caterpillar for a child, and I have been trying to do that for a long time, now I know how to do it. Thank you.

My late mum showed me how to make these when I was a child. I think I'm going tot take it up again and make a bed cover. She had tons of fabric as she was an amazing quilter! Thank you for the tutorial.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!! I've made these before but wasn't happy with the end result. This showed me the one thing I was missing! When I heard the thread pop when you pulled the knot to the inside of the yoyo, I literally blew a kiss to the TV!!! Thank you!

Best tutorial on these I've seen. Others made it look a little fiddly, this simplifies it. Thank you!

Great tutorial! Super easy to follow. Good for me as I've made them before, many, many years ago. Needed a refresher (for attaching them) & chose your tutorial right away. I lucked out! Succinct instructions, not a lot of filler. Thank you!

I've viewed several videos on how to make yo yo's and yours is the best. You are very detailed with your explanations while giving a brief history. Also, what I enjoyed best is your way seems quicker.

it does take a long time to make a bed sized one but if you do it in 9x9 patches it is managable and an easy carry along project which makes it get done faster than you would think

sorry I had a migraine while making this for my friend so I had a hard time thinking talking and sewing and trying to keep my mind clear. But my friend had asked and I had promised it on this day so I had to do it to keep my promise. She would have understood just I wanted to be able to help her when I promised I would.

If I want to make a yoyo quilt, do I need to sew the joined pieces to a backing so that there are no gaps, to hold batting in? If so, how do you sew them onto the fabric? I can't find any complete instructions on how to make a yoyo quilt, all just show how to make yoyos but not the quilt.

I have seen people see to a piece of fabric but it is more like a sheet single layer no batting as this is a summer quilt
