In this video, I decide to take my MK7 VW Golf R on a little camping (rallylanding / rallylander / rallyland / overland) adventure up into the mountains. I toss a set of crossbars up top and throw on a rooftop tent and go. The 'trail' we did, if we can even call it that, was obviously not an offroad trail, and my lowered VW Golf R traversed it with expert precision. It was actually loads of fun to rip the roads up onto the trail and then the trail itself. Just wanted to do a quick video with the VW Golf R to remind you that you don't need a wild and crazy offroad rig to go out and have some fun camping.

The Golf R ain't my prepared vehicle, haha. Also, I don't want people to get too bogged down by all the gear, to go out and have a good time. So with that mindset, I simplify from time to time.

Love the golf R! My dream car would be a 2004 VW R32 with the vr6 engine. I had a 2013 GTI but sold it in January for my 2018 Toyota 4Runner trd off-road cause a baby on the way.

I did this for two years with my mk7 GTI I used for track days before I got my truck, crazy capable machines on and off road with a good driver behind the wheel!

First off, Idaho instant mashed potatoes are 🔥. One of the easiest and better tasting instant potato’s around.
This makes me miss my mk6 golf R and mk6 gti.
Put it back to stock height, drop to a 17” with a larger tire, but then you’re also going to lose the performance with a fatter tire.
Yeah... Maximum on road performance can be reserved for the GT-R, haha
Should put air ride under that thing then you can lift it up a bit when off-road/snow.

I haven't worked with FR in years (they're still great, I love them), so just trying out different things or solving different problems with different tools.

Golf R is the best in class, so mostly like. I wouldn't mind an STI hatch, but people already think I'm 20, and that wouldn't help matters. Evos don't come in hatch, so they're cool, but much less appealing.
