During yesterday's Nintendo Direct, they announced Metroid Prime Remastered. This is a game that many people have been waiting for and has been leaked for a while. I give my take on this remaster as a long-time Metroid Prime fan. Metroid Prime is an action-adventure game developed by Retro Studios and published by Nintendo for the GameCube. Metroid Prime is the fifth main Metroid game and the first Metroid to use 3D computer graphics and a first-person perspective.

I loved playing the prime trilogy on the wii as a kid. Just wish I could play the remaster on PC as I do not have a Switch.

I remember first playing this game 20 years ago and hearing the menu theme (7:50) and thinking, “This is going to be amazing.” Never forgot that feeling. It’s permanently imprinted on my brain.
Yes. Prime made a dramatic first-impression and the rest of the game did not disappoint. It's considered a classic for a reason.
There's just something abouy the design of that menu that is so confident. It says "Yeah, we know you're about to play one of the best games to ever be made. You're welcome."

back those years ago, as gamecube player, i got scared so much, always begged my older brother to beat ghost chozos and invisible pirates, i hated chozo and pedrana drifts areas that lacked light, and the OST of those battles even helped the sensation... aaaarg

I was expecting this game to be a similar remaster to what Zelda Skyward Sword was. Higher res and upscaled textures but not much else (and 60 bucks), but man they really went all out. This would definitely pass for a modern game and the visuals look like some of the best on the console.

"the visuals look like some of the best on the console." wouldn't even be all that profound, except the performance is rock-solid, too. They did the same thing on the Switch that they did on the GameCube - outstanding visuals on an underpowered console, without compromising performance.
Prime Remaster is actually a REMAKE, not a remaster. They mis-labeled the game. Not that it matters though.

I was actually looking for a reasonably priced copy of Prime and then Nintendo dropped this out of nowhere. I’m so excited to revisit this game. Lol id spend so much time back in the day just wandering around, taking in the ambience of the world, listening to that dope ost
Lol same it was a favorite for me until I lost my disk in hs, I replayed Prime 2 much more since then. Ive been loving playing this remaster with no hints, I got lost after getting the spider ball and wandered around for a while and got a bunch of missile tanks, and I eventually found where to go but playing without hints is great for the ambiance if you're not impatient to progress
As someone who has never played any of the metroid prime games, I’m excited to dive into this one.
Every time I watched an Elden Ring video of yours over the last few months, I got the nostalgic pang, hearing the Metroid Prime soundtrack in the back. Another stunning example of a game having a fantastic narrative while having nearly zero dialogue. So stoked Nintendo gave us this surprise gift.
To build appreciation for the suit's look: I think they cranked up the shadows and saturation, and pushed the colors closer together to make it look more like Zero Mission's key art.
Metroid Prime is a certified classic!
This is such a small detail, but in norfair your gun bobs left and right to the beat of the song and it always looks like Samus is trying to walk on beat, and I do that in real life so I love this

I started playing this yesterday and I can't get enough of it. I have no problem at all calling this the new definitive version of _Metroid Prime._ Everything from the lighting and particle effects to the rain on Samus' visor look absolutely gorgeous, and the gameplay and controls are really good for the most part. If _Metroid Prime 4_ has this kind of effort put into it, then the wait will have been worth it.
Only two things I don't like:
* intentionally removed even the few sequence breaks that were left in the Trilogy version-that stuff was really fun!
* hints that I don't remember being there even when the hint system is turned off. When fighting Thardus, I don't need a popup immediately when he goes into ball form telling me to use the Boost Ball to escape-it's insulting.
Other than that, it's incredible.

Playing the remaster, it really is clear that so much love was put into it. Mad respect to everyone who worked on it, they did a phenomenal job and they should be proud.
Can't we all appreciate how a Masterpiece like Prime 1 is only 40 bucks instead of the usual 60

@@Ziostorm Metroid Dread had a great collectors edition, the steel book is great. Not sure if they’ll do one for a remaster like this, but hey, there’s always Metroid Prime 4…when that comes out…eventually
The second you said "the Metroid Prime trilogy is my favourite series of games of all time" I subbed haha. I'm actually waiting on the physical release for this one. I'm not much of a collector but I want to add it to the Metroid pile.
I am also getting physical. You save memory that way & allow friends and family to borrow it.

I always wanted to play this game when I was younger but was never able to, so I'm really happy Nintendo made this remaster and I can finally play it.
Ahhhh bro I’m so happy for you that this dropped! I loved the first 3 metroids and GBA games, but never had a chance to try the prime series. I’m very excited to try this.
Everyone needs to play this game. It's a timeless classic and a masterclass not only on how to bring a 2d franchise to the 3d realm but also on how to properly do a remake.
Masterpiece! And it's not just nostalgia talking - I got into the Metroid franchise in my mid-twenties about a decade ago - Metroid Prime stands tall as one of my favorite games of all time 🔥
I am the biggest metroidvania fan but never got around to the Prime games. Now I have started this remaster and it is so good. I mean SO good.

You could always do a run where you collect no Missile and Power Bomb expansions and no Energy Tanks to give yourself a challenge.
Isn’t there a hard mode after you beat the game?
Forgot to mention that it was the first 3D game in the series also---one of the most seamless jumps to that dimension ever! Right up there with Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, Metal Gear Solid, etc.
The opening was genius. The set-up with Samus arriving at the derelict. Jumping out and letting the player see her full 3D model so we can *see* her. Then the quick zoom-around to behind and then _into her helmet._ Then a couple of quick target practice gates to let the player quickly get used to the entirely new controls and perspective.
Gotta love how despite remastering the graphics and such, they left the ost pretty much intact, it's just that good.
Oh I already did. This will be my third time through the game. So happy they finally have normal controls. I got along with what Nintendo did on the gcN and Wii ok but dual stick is mine and most console players preferred play style for fps games
It's so awesome that they did a true remaster of the game too not just made it 720p and calling it a day.
You're right. Best game/series ever. I'm about two hours in and I can't believe what I'm seeing. They really went all out on the polish, looks great and feels great. I still can't believe it

This announcement was incredible and after looking at some detailed reviews, it's clear that this wasn't just a quick, cheap cash-in. The attention to detail in not simply upscaling old textures but actually reworking most of them, the new lighting systems and the multitude of control options...yeah, this was a passion project. And dropping it at the $40 price point instead of $50-60 made this an instant sell for me. I've been thinking about returning to my GC copy of Prime to replay lately but with this out now, looks like I'll just experience it on the Switch instead. So excited!
Hell yeah, even though I have a Switch, I have never been too much into Nintendo's games (let's say, my enjoyment is much more mixed with the whole catalog), but Metroid Prime is the one thing I have been keeping an eye out for.
I now have a Wii with GameCube compatibility, so I was kinda playing with the idea of getting the original ones, but decided to wait out for the looming Remaster/Remake (it kinda is a remake, it just doesn't revise the gameplay nor does it try to look mind-blowingly new and fresh, it simply looks like all the assets were remade).
I'll wait out for the physical copy coming out in a few weeks
I bought the digital copy right away when it came online. My first run was 8:17 at 92%. And I can say, this game is perfect.
Definitely checking this one out. I played the original Metroid release on Nintendo when I was 7-8 years old and played every one since. Definitely not missing out on this one, glad it turned out to be so well polished.
Just got it. Will be playing for the first time. So stoked. Tried on wiiU but motion controls just isn’t my bag.
Dual Stick is the only way to play IMO

So glad you touched on the sound track. Over the years I have repeatedly went to UA-cam and listened to different tracks from this game, specifically the Phenadra Drifts area music. One of the most magical and immersive soundtracks to any game I have played.
This remaster has be something I have longed for, for many years. I literally feel like a kid at Christmas. Big props Nintendo and Retro. Thank You
Prime 2 is my favorite of the trilogy, and I hope it get the face-lift treatment as well.

I was hoping so badly that the Prime 1 remaster would come with an online multiplayer mode similar to Echos but dumbed down seeing as there weren't as many suits and power ups. I would take a Prime 1 multiplayer- which would be insane to have with these graphics and modern online PvP. I would easily pay for like a $20 expansion if that was DLC...or they just remaster Prime 2 which I would 100% take too. I just wanted this remaster to have some sort of online feature.
@LeRoy Goldman Ehh I disagree since it'll feel tacked on just like Prime 2's multiplayer, it's fun for like half an hour but that's it, I'd rather they just concentrate on making the graphical changes, and even if the multiplayer component somehow was good, Nintendo's online functions are so unbelievably terrible thatbi still wouldn't play it, if I wanted to play something in multiplayer I'll just use another console.
Another thing this remaster did well has the amount of options. Like with the controls, you can turn on and off the looking down when jumping. That was actually huge for me I hated that
Love the prime games. Prime 2 is also my favorite and favorite game of all time tied with bloodborne. I have noticed a lot more people are showing their love for it than back in the day. So I really hope we get the same treatment for the other two while we wait for prime four.
I absolutely couldn’t agree more, and I’m with you, one of my favorite games ever made is still to this day Metroid Prime 2. I hope it comes remastered sooner than later! 🤙
The only Metroid game I ever had the patience to play through was fusion, for the gba, but I definitely have been wanting to get into the series. You now have me fully convinced. Imma get this pretty soon 😊
What they did with this game just set the bar for what we are going to experience with Metroid Prime 4.
Got my hands on the game, got the Varia suit in less than 2, hours.

I got the Varia suit, did the traditional backtracking to get some scans and some missile expansions--then died in Magmoor and realized I hadn't saved in the very productive half-hour I'd had.
I remember this feeling. I don't know if it's a good thing or bad thing, but I remember it.
I was 10 years old and i played it on gamecube back in 2002.
I'm now 31 years old and I will get this Metroid Prime remastered ! This game is an absolute masterpiece and I highly recommend it to any Souls fans (very similar to Souls games in many ways).

This game will always have a special place in my heart. It is a timeless masterpiece that has aged better than wine. I still listen to the OST from time to time in my car. This is the type of game you just never forget. Part of what got me into gaming in the first place when I was a kid.
I didn't get the chance to play Metroid back in the day, so this is the perfect chance to jump in and try it for the first time. Pretty excited

I am so happy with this release. Prime is and will always be my favorite trilogy, it held such an important part of my youth and even now I revisit it regularly. Seeing Phendrana, my favorite area and music in Prime 1, remastered honenestly made feel a little emotional. I'm am loving replaying Prime in it's new beauty, it feels so fresh again.

2002 Metroid Prime was my childhood. After a long day at school I would turn on my GameCube and play for hours.
I bought the game as soon as I got home from work and the gym. I can't wait to replay it this weekend.
Man I had the same little tiny issue too with the shine to the armor but overall this remaster is super good!!!

Reto Studios made the remaster! The creators themselves. So that explains a lot of why it's so faithful to the og.
I've played every sing 2d Metroid, but have never been to interested in the Prime series. I decided to buy the game and I've been having a blast with it! It runs like a dream, and has lots of different control options.
As someone who had never played a 3d Metroid, I would definitely recommend.
Check out prime 2, it’s even better!
The remix of Norfair's Ridley area from Super Metroid was masterful.
It would be a crime to not give Echoes and Corruption the same treatment!

I was 8 when this came out and it was my first game on my first console. I love this game to this day and being able to play it with the enhancements has been awesome.

I just about lost it when I saw this game during the Direct since the Metroid Prime games mean so much to me! When it comes to my history with the series, I first played this game back in 2010 when I was 7 and my parents got me the Metroid Prime Trilogy Collection on the Wii for Christmas I spent as much time as I possibly could for the next couple weeks playing all three games back-to-back whenever I had free time, these games had me in a chokehold. I'm a huge fan of anything Science Fiction, and Metroid Prime was basically my introduction to Sci-Fi as a genre of media alongside Halo and Star Wars. The series was also part of what made me a massive fan of First-Person Shooters too along with watching either my dad play Call Of Duty when I was a bit too young to be doing so lol, and playing Halo 2 and 3 alongside my cousin who owned an Xbox. Anyways (sorry for that little side story lol) I'm so happy this game can now be played whenever and wherever you want to on the Switch, it looks absolutely gorgeous to the point where I'd say its one of if not THE best looking game on the system, and runs incredibly well in both docked and handheld mode. THIS is probably one of the best remasters out there with how much care was put into this game, and this being without a doubt the definitive way to experience this masterpiece of a game

Metroid Prime is F amazing, but there is another game with this level of OST, the only i can put side to side, and it's called Unreal (1995). Like Metroid, the soundtrack is so atmospheric and precise to make you feel what is be in that world and to know the facets of the enviroment, that i can't imagine that game without the musics.

You threw in a clip of Quadraxis. I have a save on Prime 2 right before that fight because i love replaying it so much. Heres hoping we get a remaster for that as well. Prime 2 was special to me.

I use to have the trilogy on the Wii and I never beat any of em. Did about 20% of the first 2 games and 40-50% of prime 3. Really enjoyed what I did play of them though and I do hope they remaster prime 2 and 3 because I would love to play through all 3 games now that I'm older. Deff getting this game but I gotta wait for the physical release because my SD card is full😅

I was skeptical about a remaster because I didn't think they could recapture the beauty of the original on CRT. I was wrong. Retro reimagined the visuals for modern screens and it is just as breathtaking... And somehow they accomplished this on Switch... And it's $40
Bought it immediately. I have the Frigate ring tone so I have had this love affair since it's inception. When this game first released on Game cube it's as if they had time traveled to the future and brought it back in time. It was so ahead of it's time like Zelda Ocarina of Time when it released. Music has played a big part on Nintendo franchise too. That's equally part of the allure. Great reveal 👍
This especially hits home for me. My parents couldn’t afford a GameCube and the only person I knew who had it was my friend CJ. By the time I knew about Prime, he had sold it and I felt I was doomed to never enjoy this. Then all of a sudden, Nintendo busts down my door and throws this in my face. Worth every penny!!!

My first experience with Metroid Prime was late - but it was amazing, and it may be my favorite set of games of all time. I bought it when I had extra money from work, and went to Walmart to casually browse the games and see if anything pulled me in - and I saw a Steelbook Metroid Prime Trilogy... I didn't know what it was, but I knew that I liked Metroid, so I bought it, and it was / IS amazing. For that reason, being on the Wii, in widescreen, the motion controls really pulled me in and made it feel like I was inside the game, so that's the way I'm playing this one now. I'm very pleased with every aspect of this remaster, and would also ask that everyone, pick this up NOW so that we can be sure to get the other two games remastered as well.

I bought it. still playing it. I was in foster care when the gamecube came out and when Metroid prime was launched and I never got to play it. Every kid in my school was talking about it and I played bits of it at friend's houses but to be able to actually play the game for the first time like this for me is incredible.
I'm waiting until the 22nd because i want to encourage Nintendo to keep doing physical releases. But I'm freaking stoked!
I am so happy for this game, I completed Metroid dread and it was my first ever Metroid game and I loved it. I was left missing it, now that I see this game coming is a perfect time for new comers to come on into the series
I've just gotten the Space Jump Boots the normal way.
About the only issue I have with this remaster is one that has been an issue since the original released, being the orange and red squares to scan instead of green, red, and blue outlines of the scannable objects. I would have thought they would have changed that over, since they have known for at least 15 years that the outlines are preferred to the squares.
Anyone know if they've included the hyper mode difficulty setting from the Trilogy release? I loved the extra challenge that added to the game.
Dual stick + gyro (enable in options) took a minute to dial in, but feels incredible and fresh!
On my second playthrough as of right now. Gotta love the game. So good.
