It made sense 40 years ago or even 30 years ago because the oil money really was a big deal - but the government of the UK now spends as much extra in Scotland via what's left of the barnet formula as it raises in taxes from the oil. Look at the reaction of the Dunfermline and Hearts fan's when they were in the same boat. They knew what was at stake, feared the worst but rallied and done something about it and now both clubs have avoided Liquidation, which is great news.

No, leaving now is exactly the wrong thing to do. It made sense 40 years ago or even 30 years ago because the oil money really was a big deal - but the government of the UK now spends as much extra in Scotland via what's left of the barnet formula as it raises in taxes from the oil. This will only get better as the oil money declines - All we have to do is wait and we'll be directly profiting from the union.
We already get a good deal of autonomy to pursue our own economic agenda and we do an excellent job of attracting investment (best region outside of london and the south east for both investment per capita and GDP per capita, even excluding oil)
Add to that what we'd lose - a seat at the G8, a direct part in one of one of the worlds finest militaries and a strong(er) position in international trade agreements. It becomes pretty clear that leaving the (historically very rich) union is just the wrong way to go.
I say long live Scotland, and long live the union.

We've payed to heavy a price and when poverty figures and in Wales show that 1/3 of our children are growing up in poverty that doesn't show a union that works for us or is "Better Together". Its time we take responsibility for our own money/economies ect. This isn't a up yours to England far from it, its a open shout if you will for us to take the responsibility for ourselves. So they can better serve their people and their needs.
