      Agreed! Great job w/ the video. So many things bother me about this. I’ll list just a few (although I’m sure it’s all been said in other comments)!
      1. As mentioned, the ad pitch that he gives immediately after talking about his deceased friend being the reason for the trip. What’s worse is that he shamelessly uses the death of his friend as a sort of Macguffin, to propel his fake story forward! That’s just disgusting!
      2. That plane could have easily started an enormous fire in all that dry brush!
      3. He destroyed an 80 year old perfectly fine airplane which just makes me sad!
      4. The financial burden stemming from the investigation, is paid for by American taxpayers!
      5. The entire stunt is offensive to his subscribers intelligence! ! It’s never a good idea to lie & emotionally manipulate your customer base!
      And BTW, did you notice that he had a fire extinguisher 🧯 hidden under his pant leg when he jumped? It’s not funny but I did kinda chuckle when I saw that !

    I checked out the area around the crash site at 34°48'53.47"N 119°57'40.18"W as reported. That's Burro Canyon you're seeing there, and it has a lot of places to land, some even better than what you see in his video. Also, there's farmland about 11 miles to the east and about 8 miles to the east southeast. There's a ridge he'd have to go over to take that shorter route, and it's 3,300 feet, but it's only 5.5 miles away so he could have easily cleared that landed on flat fields at 1,500 ft elevation. The longer route to the east, the terrain only gets as high as 2,400 feet, and then there are some nice fields to land in at around 600 ft elevation.
    As a Bugsmasher pilot myself, I would never traverse over mountains like that without first scouring the map for places I might land in an emergency.

  • @aussiebloke609
    @aussiebloke609 2 роки тому +18

    He went back to the plane for equipment that would help with his UA-cam survival - his cameras.
    I suspect there was no fire (partially, at least) because the engine and exhaust had sufficient gliding time to cool down, the ignition was switched off (or it would have restarted without him when the prop started windmilling again) and the aircraft had no battery power, so there's no source for a spark that might ignite anything. And luck obviously played a significant part, as the planning of this stunt was clearly deficient. The extinguishers strapped to his calves were likely just in case there's a small patch of smouldering from a go-pro battery, as it's obvious those memory cards were his reason for walking to the wreck site.

  • @tsbrownie
    @tsbrownie 2 роки тому +10

    If it was me: Since the wing tank was disconnected, it could have been filled with water to suppress fire. The fuel float wire could have been fixed not to move, and so disguising the fuel amount. That would have minimized chance of fire to allow recovery of cameras.

  • @popsfreshenmeyer7607
    @popsfreshenmeyer7607 2 роки тому +29

    That Fuel Selector was set to OFF all the way, even in the crash debris it was still in the OFF position. As far as I gathered, it's the fuel hose for an Auxillary tank, and it seems to be disconnected. This suggests that the Auxillary Tank was probably emptied anyway, to reduce possible chance of the Plane catching fire upon crashing, or was simply lacking maintenance when he bought it. The weird way, how he strapped some fire extinguishers to his legs, suggests that he was probably expecting a fire when he were to retrieve the gopros. It's all very sketchy.
    It also seems that the debris has already been removed. Allegedly Trevor hired some helicopter to remove, and possibly ditch the wreckage, as he learnt that the authorities were looking into it.
    Good perspective video :)

    • @MarcosElMalo2
      @MarcosElMalo2 2 роки тому +8

      It will not be difficult for the authorities to track down the hired helicopter if Trevor did indeed remove the wreckage without authorization. That said, it’s possible that the local FSDO had the wreckage removed to a more convenient location. It the investigator is smart, he might even have gotten Trevor to pay for it! 😄
      I haven’t watched any of Trevor’s videos, but I understand he has some about freight train hopping, including one where he is arrested. This wouldn’t fall under the FAA purview, but the NTSB would be interested if they get involved in the investigation. In any case, such videos shed light about Trevor’s willingness to break laws in pursuit of thrills and views-Trevor has a reckless personality. I hope the previous arrest, the intentionality of the crash, and the reckless operation of his aircraft will lead to a permanent loss of his pilot license.
      A part of me hopes that Trevor has done something (move the plane, attempt to erase raw video) to trigger obstruction of justice charges. It’s not really a part of myself I should be proud of, but this jerk really needs a comeuppance. Something to “bring him down to the ground”, like a stint in federal prison. Ah, well. It probably won’t happen for years, if it happens at all.

    Please note, the engine has been changed as can be seen in this earlier video: ua-cam.com/video/6E7NlFjqpsk/v-deo.html This aircraft is a "certified" aircraft, as opposed to a "experimental" aircraft like Jacobs other aircraft N63BG. Certified aircraft may ONLY be worked on by licensed aircraft mechanics (A&P). The owner of a certified aircraft may NOT work on the aircraft, like for example changing the engine. You can not just change the engine or any other significant part in a certified aircraft. Extensive paperwork and licencing is required to change the engine in a certified aircraft. The FAA registration information on this aircraft NC29508 shows the airworthiness certificate to be valid as of 01/03/2022 (this date is the date the paperwork was recorded by the FAA and not the date info was submitted). The engine is shown to be a LYCOMING 0-145B SERIES. If this engine was LEGALLY changed, the FAA airworthiness certificate would show the engine as a CONTINENTAL. It does not! Jacobs is listed as the owner of the aircraft. A Taylorcraft BL65 in fair (certified) flyable condition could be worth between $18-$30K.

I also thought of selfie stick carrying all through the incident, is it possible for a person when he is in an accident, will he be able to think of filming it! As far as I thought it was planned. He had several minutes to watch the plane crash and verify that it didn't catch fire as he glided with this parachute over the scene he was prepared if the plane had caught fire he would have dropped in close by he had 2 fire extinguishers taped to his legs covered by his pants you can see them as he exited the plane if you slow motion the video as he jumped out. Having two fire extinguishers tape to your legs must have been very difficult when he landed, he was darn lucky the fire extinguishers didn't get hung up when he went out the door cuz he would have went down with the plane his parachute wouldn't have done him any good then

    You can see that he is wearing a fire extinguisher on his leg under his pants when he jumped, also the engine was painted red so it would look like the original engine that is supposed to be on it. I don't know if he did that or not but its interesting. The person who sold it to him sold it as scrap so I think you're right he bought it for this flight. I also think he had minimal fuel in it so it wouldn't catch fire. He knew a fire would really get him in trouble. He was working on the plane himself too which as you know is a no no for this type of plane

    My late father had a '46 Aeronca 11AC Chief back in the '80s. Many a flight had in that two seater. Same principles of the Taylor in terms of Tech.. same sort of 65hp Lycoming engine, i'd be guessing as well? Magneto's and Coils, hand-cranking the prop to get it going.. awesome responsibility to have placing the chocks as a 7 year old..
    He had full radio avionics - operated off of total-loss Battery pack. As such, operating within Controlled Operations areas was limited, as well as not risking being out of Radio communications capability in sparsely populated areas, given it's vintage aircraft status even back then. He moved up to a more modern aircraft in his later years, for the operational capability.
    That Aeronca never skipped an engine beat in the ~15 years he owned it, and it still flies today, as far as i know (still on Registry). Even as a pre-teen, i knew he constantly scanned for 'alternate landing points' in the course of a flight, and 'what if'.
    This whole thing was Cringe to me. What a waste of a perfectly good airplane, for Clicks.

I doubt he thought of that concept before presenting this video, in which he makes no attempt whatsoever to be credible. Of course he had to return to the plane, or else we wouldn't have all the video of the crash! What was shown on the forward-looking interior camera, Trevor? I'd bet any amount of money the FAA has asked him exactly that question, also.

    29:49 - A tangential point in this video, but when he said being able to call 911 without a mobile signal is a myth, he was only partially correct.
    At least in the United States, a 911 (emergency services) call will go through any available network. So your phone might show no signal with the provider you have a subscription with, but if there is another network covering the area when you place a 911 call, your phone will use that instead.
    If you are in an extremely remote area like Trevor is in this video, though, there very well might not be any reliable coverage by any network. It still couldn't hurt to try and place a 911 call once or twice, but ideally you would have a working satellite phone and/or radio.

    Around the 26 minute mark of your video (not sure where in his) when it shows propeller. Is it windmilling? Or did the engine restart due to compression caused by it windmilling, and the mags being left in the "on" position instead of grounded out?
