- If you are a U.S. citizen, you can sponsor, or bring your foreign fiancé(e) to the U.S. through a K-1 fiancé(e) visa to get married. The K-1 fiancé(e) visa is a single-entry visa where the two must get married within 90 days of entry. After marriage, your fiancé(e) can then apply to adjust his/her status to become a lawful permanent resident, or green card holder.

Hello. Could you please guide me a little. Recently i booked an interview appointment date for my K1 Visa . Afterwards again they sent me an email with the list of required documents . Now One of them says "If you were married previously, obtain a marriage certificates and divorce decrees to prove the dissolution of the marriage." .I got divorced 32 yrs ago. After 3 years of marriage, we filled for divorce. Marriage was never registered though ,it wasn't necessary then. We had a son so divorce was compulsory to obtain child custody. Only thing i have now is court later stating date of marriage and date of divorce + divorce certificate .My local council wont issue marriage certificate now. What shall i do?
