I spearfish in SD. The sea lions behave that way around me too when I'm swimming with them. They swoop and they swirl while starring me down but they haven't snapped. I keep my caught fish in a little bag attached or on top of my float so that it's away from my body. I used to carry the bag attached close to my hip or my back but the shark risk is a real factor. I've decided to keep the bag away from my body
Just getting started spearfishing. So many options for spearguns! My wife and I have a sailboat in Long Beach area. Going down to Laguna next weekend to give it a try! Love your videos!
Welcome to the sport! Yes there is haha. I’d definitely recommend going to SpearAmerica to check out the guns in person yourself. Riffe and Pathos are usually the top brands. Good luck and dive safe out there! I’d recommend checking out the regulations at Laguna. Most parts are a marine protected area. Palos Verdes is usually a great spot with plenty of kelp though
hey were you on the inner side of the break wall? I think it's a long walk to the area when it gets that deep, do you have to walk along the wall all the way in if you don't have the boat? thanks in advance man.
You’re only allowed to dive the outer side. This was a different breakwall though. But I usually just swim out hella far for the breakwall you’re referring too
impressive haul. I'm rusty myself and it's been months, but weather has been pretty harsh a lot of the times I've looked. Nice to see you keeping at it! Most spooked I've been in the water was being buzzed by a seal while sitting on the bottom on a medium vis day. Still not sure it was a seal actually, but it most likely was. Just the feeling of the water force wrecked my nerves for the rest of the day. Dive safe!
@@SecondSonWoodworks yeah I’d recommend it if you’re planning on fishing more. Spearfishing, it’s a bit tough and slow because of all the weight, but it’s doable. I usually take it out for harbor fishing or within the port, but you can take it inshore a bit, but just gotta be selective about your days
Makes sense. Thank you! I would love to have a big boat that could cross the channel to the islands, but I don't have that kind of money haha@@CatchFishNotFeelingsYT
Nice job! I know it’s preference but I always leave the Sheepshead because they are the only ones that can help clear out the damn urchins eating all the kelp
I’ve been watching your videos and I’ve fallen in love with the sport. I do live in the Los Angeles county so you’re videos help me try to find my first dive spot with a rental spearfish, before I buy one for myself. Which spot would you recommend me going for my first time spear fishing? Carrillo break wall, Long Beach, or other locations?
How thick is your wetsuit? I just want buy new wetsuit and wondering how thick it should be and because I spearfish in about the same areas as you do I decide to ask you
Thanks for watching man! I usually wear a 5mm during the summer. During the winter, I’ll wear a 7mm. Usually when the water is below 62-64 degrees, I wear my 7mm
Quick question. In cali do u just need a regular fishing license to spearfish or need other things .. obviously knowing the regulations is important just want to know if regular license will do it
Thanks for watching! A regular fishing license is fine. In the fishing regulations from the Department of Fish and game, they’ll list out rules and regulations on spearfishing too
You know for not catching a white Seabass… I’d say that was still a pretty damn successful day. Those sheepshead and calico are massive! Awesome job.
Thanks for watching man! Haha yeah, I’m still working towards the White Sea bass one day

That’s a good idea. Yeah it makes me uneasy when the sea lions do that 😂

@@CatchFishNotFeelingsYT Thank you for the reply! I will look into the regulations at laguna.
if you r just starting just get a pole spear for like 40 bucks and a mask
That was fun just watching and learned a lot about where fish are located so When I go fishing I know what depth they are in .
Thanks for watching! Sheepheads are most likely gonna hug the bottom near rocky drop offs and calicos like mid to top water column next to kelp!
YESSAH that’s a good haul right there! 😎🤙🏻
Yes sir it was!! Thanks for watching man
A mola mola!!!! That is awesome
I wish I got closer! It was so cool
I just had one come right up to me near Dana Point. Almost crapped myself. 😂
Hahaha those sea lions are scary man 😂

Nice video! I fed a seal a stripped perch once 😂 that was before i had my gopro so sadly i didnt get it on video
Haha I love the Harbor Seals! I just don’t feel comfortable around those sea lions 😅
@@CatchFishNotFeelingsYT yeah I swam with some in San Diego once lol they're intimidating haha
Nice job!
Haha thank you! These sheepheads are a little better right? 😂
Nice haul guys
Thanks for watching!
Enjoyed the vid. What size gun were you using?
Thanks! A bit overkill, but I was using a Riffe 110cm

Thanks for watching Chris! Yeah it’s been tough to find days to go out. Water is warming up though! The ocean is scary man haha
Do you connect a line or anything to your boat so it won’t float away?
Thanks for watching! I have a 10lb anchor to keep the boat secured
Awesome! Thanks! Your videos are great! Keep it up. Do you recommend you boat/motor setup?@@CatchFishNotFeelingsYT

Haha that’s the dream. One day man!
Great catch, barracuda have been in the area lately

Thanks for watching! I try my best to just take only what I need when it comes to the Sheepheads. They definitely are important for the reefs
@@CatchFishNotFeelingsYT Those sea urchins are a problem longer term. Really hoping they don't wipe out more kelp and destroy the fisheries.
Good vids brotha. I was gunna call my UA-cam channel that. 😂
Haha thanks for watching man! 🙏🏻
make sure ya'll limit your intake on south bay fish, they contaminated with DDT
Will do! I don’t harvest fish too often in the areas anyways
🔥🔥🔥🔥
🙌🏻🙌🏻
yeah seals and sea lions are so annoying. they'd chase me a good amount of time.
Haha yeah. I’m more scared of them then sharks 😂

Thanks for watching! Appreciate the support. Cabrillo breakwall, Crystal Cove, and Malaga Coves are all well known spots that are beginner friendly
