  • Two Norwegian guys with next to none TET experience wanted to do some French and Italian TET in the spring of 2023, with only 14 days to spend. One BMW R1250GS and one Triumph Tiger 900.
We learned very early that distance is a real issue on TET.
We started near Luxembourg - and after a couple of days we found that we had barely moved at all.
So we never reached Italy - but ended up doing a roundtrip in France/Netherlands/Belgium instead.
That was really nice, and we learned a bunch of things for the next trip!
For example that our bikes are far to heavy for the technical parts of TET - guess ACT is more our plate for the next time!
Or maybe we will return with much smaller bikes :-)
Anyway - hope you can enjoy our first attempt - WE did ;-)

Nice video! As a cyclist it's good to see that Netherlands has wider lanes for cyclists than cars!

MY heart goes out to you both,. Schoolboy error. TOO MUCH BIKE!! Why would anyone need 130 bhp and 300kg to go 20 mph. You WILL fall off on a off-road trip and every time you have to pick the bike cup you'll be more tired and less confident...leading to more falls. It can make for a miserable time. Hard panniers cause more broken legs than falling off. Overweight is underprepared . Go small, go light. No....go lighter than that and you'd really enjoy it. Hope you guys had a great time all the same and thanks for posting the vid.

Oh, yes - we learned a lot on that trip! I totally agree, these bikes are not suited for TET.
I believe that the only way to learn is by failing tough - THAT is wisdom that sticks!
And it makes fun videos, everyone like to see another person crash as long as only the self confidence is hurt :-)
Going to stick to ACT with the GS from now, but thinking about buying a lightweight bike as a no 2 for TET etc...
Please subscribe to get the videos from the 2 month trip from Norway to Armenia and back this autumn!

Hi @@Geriatracks . Yes its a very effective way to learn but its "tough love" eh? I did the Transam Trail almost 20 years ago but luckily had read The Adventure Motorcyclists Handbook by Chris Scott who advocated small bikes and traveling as light as possible. The guy who founded Adventure Spec is also a friend and he'd told me about travelling light. So I bought a DRZ 400 and whilst the bike was the right one, I'd never ridden off-road so I spend quite a lot of the first few days of the trip on my arse....but "tough love" is a good teacher and I became adequately skilled in the trip. Often its the mishaps that make the story so you'll be able to laugh at yourself with your friends about "tough love. Thanks again for the post. I've used a "adventurised" 690 KTM in my last trips across Russia, Mongolia Kazakhstan....and hardly ever fell off...errr...very much. :0). Thanks again for the post. Rod
