    Do you think she'd be screaming about Feminism if she was onboard the Titanic when it was going down? 'Only the women and children are to be boarded onto the lifeboats' - Said the MALE captain. 'No wait - Feminism!! - let some fella have my place! 'We are for equal rights - Girl power!!' Sure thing love.......
    It's funny how you never see Feminists screaming about having equal representation in sewer-cleaning jobs or Binmen positions for the various councils up & down the land. It's only the high flying jobs they want it seems.

      You realise that women didn't even have the right to vote or inherit land when the Titanic sank, clearly feminism was not a big deal in those days, I can't really see the relevance of talking about how things were over 100 years ago when discussing feminism in the 21st century.
      Also women are over represented in low paying jobs, not under represented; (this is despite them outperforming men in school). I don't see men clamouring to work in menial jobs that women generally do; healthcare assistants, cleaners.
      But by all means cling to your fantasy that feminism is somehow disingenuous and that women have it easier than men in society. I mean to do so you have to ignore employment statistics, crime statistics and the evidence of your own eyes, but crack on.

    • @rich_jg5705
      @rich_jg5705 5 років тому

      @@davidjones5333 You don't see men clamouring for low income menial jobs? The single largest profession for menial work is truck driving--dominated by men.
      What about storage logistics, landscapers, brickeys, tarmac layers, sewage workers? The list goes on and on.
      Your perspective is skewed and whatever point your making is irrelevant when Male employment data is considered. Everything you've said has been debunked.

    • @davidjones5333
      @davidjones5333 5 років тому

      @@rich_jg5705 Okay I will see your truck drivers, landscapers, tarmac layers and sewage workers and counter those male dominated low income professions with female dominated low income professions: carers, healthcare assistants, cleaners, maids. Yes there are lots of men in low paid menial obs, but there are far more women in low paid menial jobs. This is even before we consider unpaid carers; people who have to drop out of work to care for a relative and get to claim carer's allowance of less than £100 a week, the vast majority of this group are also women. Do you think that landscapers are paid worse than cleaners? because they don't.
      You do realise that the reason there is a 9% gender pay gap between women and men is specifically because women are more likely to be in lower paid jobs? Men and women get paid the same amount when they do the same job, this skew exists because women are generally in more lowly paid professions.There are almost twice as many women on poverty wages than men.
      So no, not everything I have said has been debunked, it simply appears that you have fundamentally failed to understand the very basic argument I was making. Here I can summarise it for you: The original comment maker stated that you don't see women clamouring to be represented in various low paid jobs dominated by men, and for some reason seemed to think that this undermines the feminist agenda. I replied by pointing out that this was an absurd argument because there are already far more women than men in low paid jobs, the original point was therefore flawed; why would women be clamouring to be represented in low paying jobs, when they are already over represented in low paying job?
      The fact is that there is a gender pay gap in work, despite the reality that women perform at least as well as men in education. The only conclusion to draw from this is that there remain barriers to women earning as much as men over the course of their working lives. One area where there is not yet parity is in the senior management positions of large companies, where men still dominate. Don't get me wrong there are numerous more significant reasons for the gender pay gap; such as the monetary value that society has placed on professions that women have traditionally dominated (why is a nurse paid less than a plumber?), not to mention the fact that women are more likely to take career breaks to raise children. However this does not mean that questioning women's under representation in high paid jobs is an illegitimate grievance; clearly there is a massive bias towards men in that area. Nor does it change the fact that there is much work to be done before equality between the sexes is achieved in this respect.

    To be fair women also objectify men. Why do you think movies like 50 Shades of Grey and Magic Mike are so popular with women? If the genders in Magic Mike were reversed, the film would probably be criticised for "objectifying women".
