In Nigerian culture, anyone you are really close to (friend, sibling etc) if they have a child, the expectation is that you will love their child as if it's your own child and they may even call you mom/dad. I have loads of family friends and uncles and aunts that ill call mom or dad, its a sign of honour. Adoption in Nigeria is also extremely common, our adoption is different to western adoption because we dont stop the child from seeing their bio family, we don't hide anything or take away the bio family's rights. It would be like gaining extra parents rather than switching parents and Usman could give the child a better life in the US

The name of the show is 90 day fiancé not familial adoptions. Usman is trying to bring his family along for the ride under the umbrella of adoption to satisfy his "requirement" to have a child and his mothers wishes.
This supersedes the reason the program was created and allows his nephew to get a VISA as well circumventing our normal government rules on allowing foreigners into our country. Its exploitation and manipulation of our government rules and regulations governing VISA statuses.

Additional estimated expenses of $25,690 - $37,975 will bring the total cost to approximately $41,960 - $53,945. The child have to be in Usmans custody and live with him for 2 years in Nigeria before it would even be considered and the US immigration department won't just believe Usman and his family and Kim has to go to Nigeria and live from a few months to two years. If one family can provide a better life than the other then

It’s actually a Nigerian culture thingy. Our siblings’ children are pretty much ours, and whatever you can do for your kids, you can do for your nephews & nieces. We believe we all share the same blood as our siblings and their offsprings. I call my mom’s eldest sister ‘big mummy’ just coz she’s viewed as our other mom. I know it sounds weird but it’s basically part of our culture. Now, this doesn’t mean you can just go yoink your siblings’s kids without proper conversation, agreement and formal consent from the parents😂😂

That’s not the point. USEman’s mom wanted him to ADD to the family, not take from it. So this kid will live in the USA with a non-Muslim white lady he’s never met, AFTER she pays all the immigration fees and will raise him as a single mom in her 50’s and beyond? Gimme a break!

Adopting a family member is pretty common in Africa especially if the parents are deceased or they need financial help. And basically when he says all his brother’s children are his children that’s how it is in Africa or at least the part I’m from. My aunts and uncles are basically regarded just as my parents. My cousins call my mom mommy+her name so that’s just how our culture is

In the USA, we often say that we "laid" someone "to rest" when they have died & we have buried them (or, have had them cremated).
