    STARTING THE ELDERLY WAIVER APPLICATION PROCESS
    • STARTING THE ELDERLY W...
    I received a phone call back from the county and I can now move forward with applying for the elderly waiver.
    I'm excited to share my latest updates from Minnesota, where I've been navigating the complex and often overwhelming world of elderly care for my 95-year-old mom. Recently, I helped her transition into assisted living, which has been a significant relief, but also a steep learning curve. We've been dealing with Medicaid, medical assistance, and the elderly waiver program, which has involved countless phone calls, paperwork, and assessments.
    Through this journey, I've learned about the CDCS program and its benefits, including the AI glasses that have greatly assisted my mom. However, the program's limitations and closure have led us to pursue other options. I've been working closely with a social worker and financial management services to ensure my mom receives the necessary support. The process has taught me the importance of patience, persistence, and self-advocacy.
    Aside from caregiving, I'm excited to start new ventures and pursue long-held passions. I've begun training as a flight nanny, which involves transporting pets safely and comfortably. This endeavor requires extensive research, certifications, and networking, but I'm thrilled to explore this field. Additionally, I've started training for a half marathon in December, which has been a great way to maintain physical and mental well-being.
    In the coming weeks, I'll be conducting an interview about truss, exploring its applications and benefits. I'm also working on a compelling story about missing persons, which has captivated my attention and sparked my curiosity. Through these projects, I aim to share informative and engaging content that resonates with my audience.
    As I navigate life's twists and turns, I'm reminded that every experience - no matter how challenging or rewarding - presents opportunities for growth and connection. I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone, explore new horizons, and make every moment count. Life is full of adventures, big and small, and I invite you to join me on this journey.

    You are fortunate to be in Minnesota. I've worked with these programs for 30 years as a provider and as a guardian. We have some of the best supports of any state in the US.
    Blessings along the journey. 🎉

    I'm an RN. I did all of this for my mom for over 10 yrs. It was almost a full time second job. So much work. When she had to go into assisted living, it was $10K/mo, and with the Medicaid coverage they took all of her small monthly income, minus a small allowance, as payment in full. I had to reapply for her benefits annually. After she passed, they wanted all the money left in her estate as repayment, which was just her old car.

      Wow! I didn’t know they wanted the money back! Good to know! Ugh. I told my other sister I barely talk to that has never helped even with my dad that it’s been a full time job taking her to the doctors appointments, her medication, grocery shopping, etc. and now doing all this county stuff. Her response: Tracey, lots of people do it and work full time jobs 😡 🫤

      Me too...getting my Mom on Medicaid was tough in Ohio and getting her a waiver. Medicaid always will want to come back and "recover" any money they can. In our case, my mom already had no money already to qualify for Medicaid in the first place, there was nothing left when she passed. My son is also a disabled from birth adult on Medicaid so I had a bit of an idea how difficult getting services would be. It's so hard.

    So much to help seniors, but the end result is mostly good for them. That is a great price to winterize. Those social workers can be a very useful resource. I think you are correct, they have PCA or similar like positions in all states. You are doing a wonderful job. I wonder what people do to get service s if they do not have a family member like you to help them through the process. Thank you for sharing. Everyone stay safe, happy and healthy.

    ❤smille but keep your eyes open. I had to move my mom 3 times before I found a place that treated her right.They ALL seemed great But if you go back in the middle of the nite, unannounced you may get surprised. Show up at unannounced times One place wouldn't let her go. And they LOST her wheelchair. I snook into the basement and found it hidden behind the furnace! Most of them have extra help when they have VISITING HOURS. My sister was in a place where they had one person for her entire section during nonpublic hours. MY friend who was very well off, was in❤ their front section and she got excellent Care. 😊😅😊😊😅😅❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

      We never found a suitable place for our mother, she required spoon feeding and help with everything. Me and my sister tag teamed on her care and protected her and our inheritance. She would not have lasted 6 months in one of those homes, but she had over 9 years of happiness with us.

    A Special or Supplemental Needs Trust fund can receive settlement funds, lump sum awards, etc., for a disabled person such that the money won't bump the person off of their govt benefits, and it is perfectly legal.

    OMG, yes, I winterize my own campervan. Its hard to find the ethanol free pink antifreeze for the water system, then takes me a couple.of hours to drain and fill the system. Sometimes I wish I didn't have plumbing and pipes in my van, and had just used jugs instead. If the fee you pay also includes the cost of the antifreeze, that's a good deal.

    • @gsp49
      @gsp49 Місяць тому

      I use the cheapest rubbing alcohol I can find to prevent pipes from freezing, but in Florida, no such thing, it's never cold enough, long enough to damage anything, the pipes on houses are not insulated here.

    Its called Medicaid Recovery. They took my mom's car and her tiny pension beneficiary benefit. If you can set up a trust fund for her money when she receives it, make sure she doesn't receive her court judgement money directly, have it paid to a trust fund or to you as her POA so it doesn't count towards your mom's assets and income.

    • @commonsense6967
      @commonsense6967 2 місяці тому

      Once she's receiving the waiver, she's ineligible to hide any money in a trust. The waiver is based on her having a maximum of X amount of funds. So any amount she receives in a court case may make her ineligible for the waiver again.

    • @krisb7465
      @krisb7465 2 місяці тому

      Not if she never directly recieves the money. Special or Supplemental Needs Trusts are perfectly legal ways to recieve lump sum settlements and not have it affect benefits. @@commonsense6967

    You may have answered this already, but when your mother wins the lawsuit against your sister for the sale of her garage apartment, will she lose the elderly waiver because that will make her again unqualified due to having too much above the $3,000?🤔

    • @AdvanturesOver50
      @AdvanturesOver50  2 місяці тому +2

      Yes. She’ll go back to private pay then. On the waiver, she’s only allowed to spend like $120 a month and they take her social security so we will happily pay private again.

    Have you looked at doing a self directed care program for your mother? If possible she could live with you and you would be a paid caregiver through IRIS for personal care. There is income and asset limits but sounds like you’re working with that now.
