    so the posture of the hand must be a little inclined to have the least tension possible?

      Next session is about this. It will be posted in our Patreon first. To place a natural hand on the keyboard, it is best to use the wrist extesor muscles and leave the fingers in their rest position. We call it "the referent position".

      If I understand truly, the hand pronation should not be achieved by any tension in the shoulders and will be slightly inclined rather than being totally parallel to the keyboard?

      Inclined towards the keyboard is that “pronation”? I like the graphics but I’m a bit puzzled by the perspective of that image with hands facing the keyboard.

    Great video! Thank you for the hard work. Although, is it possible to have fully pronated (as in: back of the hand completely parallel to the keys) hands without some elbow movement ? My hands are slightly slanted outwards when I am playing, is this a big flaw in piano playing ?

      Hello Nn Dd. Thank you for that interesting question. Maximum pronation angle (always within comfort) of the hand is variable depending on the person. The good news is that it can be trained. Unless you have a health condition, it is far better to develop a larger hand pronation angle than to use the elbow in levelling the plane of the hand. The distancing of the elbows from the body require the contraction and tension of muscles of the shoulder and the back. Keeping the elbows hanging free next to the trunk is so important in piano technique, that when a pianist cannot pronate normally it is preferable to accommodate the flexion/extension of fingers 4 and 5.

    Great work. But left me a little confused in regards to the plane at which the hands are supposed to sit at the piano for maximum relaxation of the forearms and shoulder. The piano doesn’t bend to our body’s anatomy. That’s why it’s so hard to do the C scale, it’s just a straight line across the keyboard. Are you saying for relaxation is best to rotate the forearms inward? Wouldn’t that force the elbows to stick out?

    • @thechopinmethod7257
      @thechopinmethod7257  Рік тому +8

      Hi Impromptu! Pronation (or rotating the forearm inwards) is inevitable for many human tasks. A very important notion to consider is that pronation can be gradually lost (e.g. in rotation degrees) for many reasons. The pianist should gently exercise its pronation limits. The resting arms and the elbows can easily follow this movement. On the contrary, if a pianist's pronation is weak, it may induce to distance the elbows from the body. Which is not good. Let me know if this clarifies the point. Thank you!

      @@thechopinmethod7257 pretty good explanation. You’re doing amazing work!! I am an amateur pianist and it has taken me years to understand these concepts. Keep it up, this channel will grow fast.

      @@thechopinmethod7257 can you please elaborate your very last point, "if...pronation is weak, it may induce to distance the elbows from the body." How is that induced? Are you meaning, for example, on a rising scale in the right hand when you would cross the thumb under the third finger that should be done entirely with forearm pronation? Or maybe you're talking about something else. Also, any references for exercising pronation limits?
      Thank you!

      You can rotate your forearm 180 degrees without moving your elbow...

    what happened to the lumo fit posture device? you slouch and it buzzes. I was a mechanic and i had to stop practicing because my crap posture meant my back was weak for work. I have no concentration atm but where do i find a piano teacher trained in this method?

    • @thechopinmethod7257

      Sorry for the terribly late answer, Nikita. The piano is a rather selfish instrument in terms of posture. Other normal activities are indeed detrimental to it: gym work and lifting, bad sitting at work, heavy gardening, etc. Mechanic work tend to be harsh on the hands both physically and chemically, so I would recommend maximizing the use of gloves.
      The good news is that after persistent good work at the piano, the brain learns to go on and off conditioned by habit. I truly hope that you find the suitable professor. One who detects the slightest anomaly in piano body and hand posture. In our Patreon site there is a tier in which we offer video analysis and feedback in case you want to give it a try. Warmest regards!
