The New Joondalup Electric Bus!!!

- Perth's first electric bus has arrived. Operating around Joondalup on the short, circular CAT routes, TP 4001 in its bright red livery greatly stands out from other buses on the road. The Volvo BZL bus is ultimately powered by renewable energy used for its chargers at the Joondalup bus depot.

Turn on subtitles! They've been edited.
Going on it tomorrow cannot wait. Also cannot wait for there to be 260 more of these
Finally, the Joondalup electric CAT bus as well as the Perth Purple have come out!
Back then TP used to have an hybrid electric bus before this electric bus which is the Volvo B5RLEH TP2245 which used to operate CAT services, even an Hydrogen bus from Mercedes Benz which had its own registration which was ‘ECOBUS’, but they are both no longer operate in Perth ever since. So basically this is Perth’s first fully electric bus.
Yes I know all about that bus, it's weird they only acquired one and now its at some university? What was wrong with it?
Yes, my friend said that it's still in service I don't really believe him.
@@TransportofPerth kept malfunctioning its now at BOSWA they were told to NEVER TURN IT ON
Oh wow! That’s amazing! Since I live in the north west metro of Perth it’s more than likely I’ll catch that bus someday
I live right near there so I've already gone on it twice!
Right on!
I like that new electric bus
it really does sound like a plane engine start up tho
I know right!
I'm glad you enjoyed riding the electric bus today they already run these buses in Melbourne and I really think that based on the visual performance the electrics are capable of running suburban routes just as long as the government invest in EV charging points at each bus interchange. I believe now is the time to start purchasing these buses even investing in articulated models as gas buses are scheduled to be decommissioned by 2025.
The netherlands does the whole charging at interchanges thing, really helped with the rollout :D
Perth had the first on the planet
0:42 It's not the first electric bus in Perth Mark, because of the electric RAC bus driverless bus that drives on the South Perth foreshore.
There was also an electric bus already at the Airport years back. I mean the first Transperth electric bus.
@@TransportofPerth oh ok
Nice catch and it’s full low floor too very smooth and quiet I’ll be out that way next week so may go for a ride
Not the first time Perth had electric buses as Perth Airport used to have a BYD K9 running shuttles.
Ok I didn't know that but usually when I say this I mean Transperth buses, same with the "last old bus on Perth" videos.
@WA Transport Films It was the first electric bus Transperth ever had which is a pretty big thing. The other one was just running around the airport and it wasn't Transperth.
Wow, it's so damn quiet! I can hear the obnoxious music played in the back of the bus a whole lot better now. /s
I kid, This is awesome. Here's hoping the trial's successful and we see more electric buses pop up! They should roll out the kinda charging infrastructure they have in the Netherlands where an overhead caternary pops up at the station's terminus to give the bus a bit of a boost between major stops.
The more EVs the better, i say!
Where do they charge? 🤔 And do they mention anywhere how much they cost more or less than a regular bus?
They charge at the Joondalup depot with electricity from solar panels. Doesn't say anywhere how much they cost, but probably a few hundred thousand dollars, and a bit more than normal buses.
@@TransportofPerth why did you delete my previous reply? I was pointing out ABB provide the chargers for *overnight* charging, so was asking how do the solar panels charge them at night>?
@@Haveacry I don't recall there being any previous reply on here and I don't know the technical details of how they are maintained.
@@TransportofPerth you posted above "they charge at the Joondalup depot with electricity from solar panels". But they charge overnight, so how do solar panels charge the buses at night when there is no solar?
@@Haveacry I'm sure there's a battery to store the energy received during the day.
I got to see 4000 on Red CAT, and 4001 on Blue CAT today
Nice to see 4000 is out now, and great that we can go on the Joondalup CATs on two public holidays a year. I took the opportunity as well and went out in the evening, but the Yellow CAT wasn't operated by the electric bus. :(
Yes! Electric bus dam trans Perth needs to tool out more e busses
When is the next train station video coming?
After the Feb 27 changes video so two or three weeks (I might skip one due to school tests and I posted two this week).
Is TP4000 out yet
I don't know, I was confused too. I guess they already have two but it was probably just in the depot.
WOW!
Hoping for more EV buses everywhere in WA :) :) :)
Is it a 22 bus ??
What do you mean. The registration is TP4001 and it came into service this year.
Thx you
