Mandurah Line Shutdown: Finding the Last Old Buses in Perth (Again)

- During the Mandurah Line Shutdown many old NH buses were brought back into active service and I had to go on them for the last time again, meaning that the 250 subscriber special video wasn't actually that special! Unfortunately, I didn't manage to find the TransEsperance bus!
Filmed on: 11/01/2022.
Turn on subtitles! They've been fully edited.
I caught a 0405NH at Murdoch, took a pic and had a chat w the driver. Didnt know any of this was going on, just got lucky, and was wondering if anyone else noticed. Glad your video exists to publicly document this event. Great channel!
Were you meant to comment on my newest video where I filmed it? This one is from January. But anyway, thank you!
Still have one or two NH buses that rub in my area
Was quite surprised to see an NH bus servicing route 100 from Cannington Station to Canning Bridge Station! Haven’t seen an NH at Canning Bridge forever!
3:00 TP1848 is actually the ONLY NH i have ever been on!
Whoa your voice is so different to your newer videos
There’s still a few 0405NHs in Transperth Service, a few weeks ago I saw one on 442, then a few days later I saw a different one on 000
Yes many different depots received NH buses back as they're usual buses got sent to the shutdown. They definitely weren't in service for the few months between the last one on the CATs and the start of the shutdown.
Might have bent tp1229 or 1230
I went to the NH Farewell in 2018, including a 2 Diesels, 1 Gas, a CR226L (cooler version) and a Horizons West version
I saw like 5 or 6 0405NH buses in total at gosnells train station and also I have rode on TP1345 I think
Thornlie station platform 2 is actually used quite regularly. Several times per day/week so that the switches get used I think.
Yeah well a few times a day is still very little compared to the total amount of trains you get in a day so it is still considered barley used. Seems strange that they even built a second platform since the track before the station is single line anyway, would have been cool to have a one platform station. I guess they were just futureproofing it, but once the Thornlie-Cockburn Link opens it will have been almost 20 years since the opening of the station.
I reckon the least used platform in Perth is Fremantle station platform three. I have never seen a train there.
Yes that is very rarely used. Despite Fremantle technically having three platforms trains always wait for one another for the first platform.
@@TransportofPerth The second platform was built because the mandurah line was meant to route through the thornlie line and follow the thornlie to cockburn link, hence also why the rail tunnel us built above the freeway overpass, this was the plan before the Gallop government won the election in '01 and changed it to the current alignment
Yes I know that I explained it in the video and referenced the Rockingham video where I gave further explanation. However, the station was not actually built yet when they decided to change the alignment, only the Kenwick tunnel was, and then they built the station to make use of the tunnel, so they actively decided to build a second platform for a single track line, but as I said, they were futureproofing it for the day it would connect to Cockburn, even if that will be two decades later.
Great stuff! I’m quite interested on how they will connect Thornlie station with the freight line that they will use for the extension
The freight line will be relocated and separated from the passenger rail.
Ah ok, very interesting
Finding old buses
1210, 1211, 1212, 1214, 1215,1216,1217,1218, 1769, 1843, 1844. 1844 & 1843 were out of swan transit CV Depot 1212 out of O'connor and rest at mandurah
Yep, I saw that on perthbus.info
They're still New buses to me...
Old buses to me are still 2xx series O305's
You can also pronounce the bus on the right in the thumbnail the "cr226l" bus.
The .P is a typing mistake.
Ok thanks I knew there was another name.
You know you can just edit your comment?
@@TransportofPerth I don't know how to though.
Just click the three dots and press edit...
I'm hoping buses in baldivis are going to be running to warnbro stn
Um yes they do? There are SIX routes from Baldivis to Warnbro. 564-569.
Have you ever SEEN the older 0405NH buses. I saw 1218 go past the WACA near Adelaide terrace.
I don't know what this question is? I literally filmed them in the video, so I saw them? If you are talking about now, then no I haven't seen one yet but I know they are around and I am on the lookout!
I ment like before.
Now you're just confusing me even more. Obviously I've seen them before that's what this video showed???
@@TransportofPerth before you filmed this.
Come to Melbourne you will find heaps on our rail replacement buses
I love old buses
Where I live the bus station has mostly that model of bus (the first bus he talks about 7:26 )
Somewhere not in Perth?
On the regular Armadale line I haven’t seen a single b series.
I drove 1219 on Tuesday 4th august on the 548 Rockingham to freo
I think I saw a NH on Thursday between shenton Park and Dalglish
They could have been seen all across the city as many different depots got some back during the shutdown.
I went to check out the new Cockburn thornlie track works on the 15th and it's so smooth.
Cool, I want to check it out soon too. How slow did the train go because of the speed restrictions?
at 3:39 I Have saw these buses before there so sick.
their was quite the few mate about 20 were out in total!
Yes I know, I said that in the video. There were actually like 30. I just wanted to retain the same title as the other video, but I changed it to buses now because it was misleading.
12:31 cr226l NH
If you want to see More of these 0405NHs Example TP 1583 TP 1581 TP 1441 0500s Jump on the Australind Train to Bunbury Terminal and hang around between 1:00pm to 5:00pm there are a Heap of 405 NHs around that time come down and check it out
I know there are plenty in Bunbury and I will look out for them the next time I travel there.
12:19 b8r bus
Did I hear a mispronunciation? The ‘CK’ in Cockburn is not pronounced…It is said ‘COH-burn….I’m an ex West Aussie living outside Melbourne…We were always very careful to pronounce that suburb the right way….and some of those earlier ex TP buses are plying the streets of suburban Melbourne….
Yeah sorry I know it's like that but whenever I read it out I just revert back to saying the CK. That's cool that you got those buses there now.
When the trains stop let's say it says "This is McIver" @ 1:15 why does it say "This is thornlie station" instead also will you film an bus sations
It always says 'station' as well at terminus stations to emphasise the announcement so that everyone gets off. And yes, after the train stations I will film the suburban bus stations.
8:20 what was that
I don't know too long ago for me to specifically remember now
K
because of the midland line shutdown and the Armadale line shutdown they might bring these NH buses back
Yes exactly I've said that a lot. And they brought them back TODAY for the Mandurah Line disruption, so I already filmed them and there will be a part 3 of this lol!
1:15 thronlie Stn Be like
I saw number 108 servicing bus route 68 a few days ago.
I took a photo on my phone.
Edit: Lost my phone :)
108 is just one of the old CAT gas buses. There's sill like 20 of those and they operate every day.

And what is the special thing you like about them
The engine sound is probably the best thing.
