I love this speaker...He has a very brilliant mind
Worst things a kababayan can tell me when I go home in Pinas. I actually find them insulting:
"libre ka naman"
"pasalubong naman"
Pinoys are the most connected people on earth in terms of social network. It should teach pinoys about realities of life for kababayans overseas.
Nothing is free.
Hindi lahat, my Australian hubby is careful, and we both working hard. Now we both retired, able to help our children to help buy their own house. I did help my brothers children to finished or achieved a career. Tutuo, but not all.
Living and working in the states has many factors. Unless your a doctor or common worker driving Uber or retail. Not all Filipinos have jobs. You are lucky if both husband and wife work. You almost need 3-4 family member to afford living in the states. We pay high rent or mortgage taxes, income, sales, property, health and cars in most states require insurance to drive. You are lucky after you pay your monthly bills that you have enough left over. That is almost 35-40% of your salary goes to the government. This is common problem faced not just Filipinos but other cultures living and working in the US. Yes the US exchange rate is higher but you need to work to survive. So next time you see a balikbayan back home don’t assume they are rich. They are just glad to be home to relax for a short period to forget their worries in the US.
Having a credit card abroad is a way of life. It is a way for financial institutions to check your credit history. It is a must that you have one. What we do is to have a low credit limit like say $3000 and stay within that limit. To say that a balikbayan is a show off is a little bit harsh. Pag nagpakain ka sa labas sa mga relatives mo or your friends, it is a way of sharing eah you have and an opportunity for you to give them an experience of something that they can not afford in the Philippines. It is not showing off. Also not everyone coming home is puro utang. Pinagiipunan yan ng matagal dahil ss expectations ng mga relatives which you also want to fulfill. Not every living abroad is puro utang. It depends on how you manage your finances and your way of life. Don't be judgmental of balikbayans please.
The word mayaman is not a word of OFW. It was a word of friend or relatives back home. We have different journey of our life. My advise concentrate the life you want to be, pursue your dream in a legal way. Be strong. A little prayer every morning facing the rising sun. A wish come true.
$2,000.00 is nothing here .
Leronreron sinta I agree. I go to thrift stores, garage sales and flea market to save. Unless you make a lot of money. Welcome to America.
Ross at Marshalls pwede :)
Leronreron sinta
I appreciate the wisdom of that guest.
I don't wear fancy clothes and shoes but only when I am in our College Reunion. Most of the items abroad ay nabibili narin sa SM.
Hahaha you got it. Yan din plano ko😂😂act like you are working also in the Philippines.
In the U.S., you need a car which to be paid, be insured, be maintained for gas, oil, and check up. Health insurance, mortgage, food, water, electricity, and saving for retirement are needed.
it is sad to say there some kababayan natin pag nsa pinas na nakakalimutan na nilang ikwento ang hirap ng buhay bagkus puro sarap ng buhay lagi.
We in America are floating on debt.America is paved with blood, sweat and tears. One advantage is that after a lifetime of working we have social security and other pensions. But, sadly many Filipinos have forgotten their lupang sinilangan never to return home again.
So what if they don't? I know plenty of Filipinos who would never go back to their home country for a variety of reasons. They have been living with high standards from their host country for years if not decades. To go back to the Philippines would be a downgrade on their lifestyle. Let's be honest here, Philippines has bad infrastructure, the weather is horrible, the government is CONSISTENTLY corrupt and the Philippines' general quality of life is terrible.
Those who are smart to manage their resources are better off here in abroad. Less debt is better, pay cash and do not be influenced with the new is better. Live with in your means. Buy what is on sale, clearances, even shop at thrift stores. Always think "wants or needs". Sometimes you want to reward yourself with new and latest things, but do it one at a time. We do all this thing to save for padala for the families back home.
buti pa kayong nag aabroad wala nang problema. mayaman at lagi may kinakain na masarap, maganda tirahan, magara damit. madamot nga lang karamihan.
adiksadiatabs adik ka nga
hulihin kita
Ok, mastadong sarap buhay namin dito.
We have a lot of homeless people here. News flash Tommy compatriots back home not everyone here is rich. At the end of the day we have bills, we have credit card payments and food is not always cheap here. It’s the currency conversion that is throwing you off but not all of us can afford mansions.
2000.00 dollars only pays for your rent and food, not including gas if you have a car or if you take the bus you need bus fare.

Kasalanan yan ng both parties.
Jan sa pinas..magtrabaho halos makuba na. Wala parin asenso..
Balikbayans have to bust their behinds, make sacrifices and save . They work hard and earn every dollar they make. Money don't grow on trees. What ever material things they have accumulated were the results of the reasons mentioned above after so many years. It is a misconception among the locals that anyone that works abroad is always a success story. It was never the case. Hard work , save for the future and sacrifices are the main ingredients in order to survive in other countries.
At Hindi ka namimili ng Job at Isa pa I'll Address to anyone Kong Doctors Nurses Engineers kahit ilan taon ka nag Work sa Atin Are Not Valid here You need to go back to School iyan Ang Batas! Konting tiis Kong gusto mo talaga! Kakayod ka ng tudo bundle Up it's Cold you need check the Weather Wag kayo mag ala ala the Filipinos are Friendly! Anyone going Abroad 4 Resident Good Luck! Mabuhay Ang Pilipinas
US Pinoys are not OFWs.
Its because the country is a third world country, aka low standard of living. Unless if you are some sort of high ranking government officials, na may klaseng authority na god-like power. Credit is meant for emergency and essential parts. Depends naman yan sa isang tao. It doesn't meant you have a credit, its a bad thing. There is bad, there is good. How about this, a pair of slippers cost in the country from 500 to 1000 pesos, thats like $20+ for a pair of slippers, that could get you a pair of Nike shoes in a big city in US!!! The average wages in Metro Manila is like 600 pesos. That's like $14.00. Not sure what the Labor Department doing though. Lucky kung may magbabayad sayo ng 600 pesos a day. Teachers making monthly is 20,000. Again swerte if you are making money that much, as a professional teacher. Oh by the way, that is without taxes on health insurance, SSS, GSIS, etc. Well that could take you home for 15,000 pesos.
The foolish thought that money is being pickup in the streets abroad. Wait till its their turn to do hard labor.
Damn right ... My relatives in the Philippines will never understand this.
Bakit kung may Gold kami pag uwi kasalanan ba nmin yan...d yan ninakaw pinaghirapan yan..
Poor Filipinos are full of insecurities in life. And when they encounter a rich person, they are so angry to them for no reason.
lmao I don't know what's being said but I just wanna say my mom came to America from the Philippines and my family there has nicer stuff than we do in the states. we don't even have a couch✌
Hindi Po lahat ng Filipino sa Abroad ay OFWs. Yung Mga Filipinos naninirahan sa US.of A , Hawaii at Guam ay Hindi OFWs 4.5 million Filipinos Mostly US Citizens & Greencard Holders . The rest Undocumented 300,000 also Are not Counted as OFWs. Its Very Important Simply cause that is theFact . It must be. corrected Simply Its Wrong. For Ex. I Call you People GMA Journalist the Fact You are UNTV Rigt ? Dba Correction is Expected right?
HE HE HE TAMA KA DYN
Most of the people in the US are making both ends meet..it only looks good on the pictures...
Hoy..! Blue man ..!
Dito sa America mga tao dito work work walang time mag enjoy. Eh sa pinas kahit walang pera nakakapag enjoy tayu or merung manlilibri.
And who's fault is that? Start with most ofws who pretend to be rich by flaunting their high salaries and shopping trips. Admit it or not, most of them are actually enjoying that reputation back home, whether it be real or not. Besides, they have the option of not succumbing to that tukso of "libre naman dyan".
Nko akala nyo easy lng ang buhay dto
Mahal din ang bilihin dto
Mas easy life jn sa pinas
Unfortunately its FILIPINO crab mentality, however there are some people who work abroad were pretentious! Generally not all people abroad in all parts of the GLOBE WERE LUCKY, so bare in mind that Regardless they are working abroad thier expenses is also The same as HIGH in a place were they nor us leave.
May pasalubong ang Ofw ;
Mag blow out ang ofw at
Filipinos in the Philippines thinks ofw or Filipino-Americans are rich, they don't have a clue they have to work very hard to earn money, some works double to make ends meet. The rent is high, mortgage rates are high, food are high, just the basic things are expensive. They use credit cards for food, everything, cars have to be paid in installments, buying a house they have to pay in installments, having a car is expensive, going to work is expensive, they have taxes to be paid. Credit cards have to be paid every month, the interests are high. It never ends.So the relatives back home don't look for work because they feel they don't have to, they get spoiled. If you stop sending money they get mad they stop talking to you. I know it happened to me, she didn't believe life is getting harder.
Natatawa naman ako..i have been living in the US for 20 years.
I am baffled to your guest. How is an Anthropologist is related or has more experience with people who are residing in the U.S. or other country? How is an Anthropologist suggest things about monetary differences between U.S. and other countries salary? This doesn't make sense? I suggest get an MBA (Master Business Administration) rather than an Anthropologist? Understand?
As a Filipino-American who left Phil 40+ yrs ago I found the article funny and interesting. It is true, if you made it in the US as a middle or upper classe income earner, you probably have more resources, than an average Filipino who stayed behind. But they also have to spend lots of money to maintain their lives in the US where it is very expensive. Obviously, if they retire in the Philippines, they can do better than living in the US. But don't ever make a mistake that material things are analogous to being rich! There are a lot of smart and humble expats who are well to do but you will not know it. Filipinos are fond of showing off!!!!-- Back when I was there, there was a joke" Forma lang patay ka na!!!!!Wala akong pera, so umalis ako!!!!
X
Showy ka sa pinas delicado buhay Mo
Naka blue dameng alam. Bat dika mag ofw.
Sos yaman sa recivo hahahahaha
hindi nman mayaman may ipon lng
Such a stupid analogy by this Professor. What we earn in dollars, we spend in dollars! We pay our bills, gas, food and mortgage in dollars!
US Pinoys are not OFWs.
