10:56 is a misunderstanding I think. The show seems to be where 2 girls travel to one place, and 2 guys travel to another and they compete to see who had the "better trip." Its just the concept of the show so I think she was just trying to play the part. The English translation is also a bit off because it doesn't capture the nuance of the specific words she is using. 14:00 although harmless in intent, is offensive. Koreans (especially older ones) can end up offending people from developing countries or SE Asia without really meaning it. The woman who said it is like 40 something so she definitely probably grew up in an environment where people weren't so open. I apologize in her stead. And just a bit more unbiased info- I think Korea's perception of Vietnam is not negative at all. It is seen as a good country to diversify business as our relations with China soured pretty bad starting in 2016. It is also seen as similar in many ways because we both came out of civil war and are both getting back on our feet. I've heard businessmen say Vietnam is probably the most reliable in SE Asia because of similar work ethic, focus on education, etc,. We also feel bad for what we did when we went in during the Vietnam war. Its being taught in schools, and its really not pretty. The only negative opinion I've heard about Vietnam though is street hagglers and the occasional pickpocket. A lot of people get like their phone stolen on holiday, or find out they've been scammed to buy overpriced goods and such. But this is more incidental, and other than that, its really not negative at all.
Thanks a lot for your thorough explanation. The Notre Dame Cathedral is an iconic architecture of our city so please do understand why I react so harshly :) I hope through TV programs like these, Koreans will have a new perception about Vietnam as well as other SE Asia countries.

I have similar thoughts as the Boss when we traveled to Korea last year. A beautiful country in Asia but it has a sad history if you think about the time Korea was conquered and occupied by the Chinese and then by the Japanese in the past and during the second WW. How poor they were after the II WW and during the VN war. But in the end they survive as an independence country. Well done 👍🏻
