Raw and burnt umber - what's the difference?

Raw and burnt umber are two types of natural pigments commonly used by artists. But what's the difference between the two and how do they mix with other colours? I test out the two colours and show how they work in a painting.

They're both pretty opaque. If you're looking for a transparent version of either, Liquitex has those available. I haven't tried it in either of these colours, but I have tried transparent yellow oxide, which is beautifully transparent
