The fact that some people see this guy as being anything other than humble and intelligent blows my mind. Every single answer he gives, ever, is pure class. It's all credit to others. He doesn't badmouth, or self-aggrandize. He makes music and tries to make a difference.

I agree. He's a genuinely decent person -- on top of being an incredible creative artist.

    • @wimbledon7867

Yes, he has contributed many donations, but he should not divulge that to the public to prevent himself from being seen as a self-important cock (compare that to Prince who kept all his donations private). And creative artist? Well, U2 have done a number of solid songs despite their limited talent, but Bono is not an incredible creative artist. Paul McCartney, Prince, Stevie Wonder, and Brian Eno are creative geniuses. Bono is not...

@ Greg Stella Could not have put it better myself. I'm Irish and the thing that forever boggles my brain (and annoys me intensely) is the fact that the one place where he gets the most stick/criticism is his home country. Go figure. Personally I've always had a hell of a lot of time for the guy, I admire him greatly and he makes me proud to be an Irish man. I've been a fan of U2 from the get go. Growing up in Ireland when I was younger Bono for me was always a voice of positivity when around me negativity seemed to reign supreme. To Bono I say: 'Keep on rockin; in the free world" bro. It certainly needs you. Over and out.

I love their music, I love seeing them perform, I love what they stand for, and I will continue to do so until my time is up.
Bono is a family man, a proud activist for every thing good that this world should be. I you don;t like Bono then either you are ignorant or you don;t like the world you live in.
He loves his family, he is kind to everyone he meets, he does nothing but positive things with his time.. What's not to like!!??

I'm so proud of Bono for making it his life's work to get involved in the politics of poverty. Yes, he's over the top, large ego, but I love him for it. I wish I had half his energy. I lived in Africa for 9 years, and it wore me out. Bravo to him for not giving up.

32:09 Songs are like prayers, they are to us...songs are a preoccupation...all of these problems are spiritual...Songs come from somewhere else. Bono is a Christian I respect. He uses language that is fresh, he's engaged in problems that face our world, and he strikes me as a person of integrity.

    • @PenontonGila
      @PenontonGila 11 років тому +3

Why only as good as Boy? They have a number of much better albums.
Oh wait, i get it...you're the hipster who says they only like their early music from before they became big (and in U2's case better).

    • @TheTestingGrounds
      @TheTestingGrounds 11 років тому +3

October was great, War prettygood, Under a Blood Red Sky was great, The Unforgettable Fire was great, Joshua Tree was great, Rattle and Hum was great, Achtung Baby was great, Zooropa was great, and after that I started losing interest.
However Boy has always been the album by which they built their standard of greatness. They sounded hungry, and fresh. After Joshua Tree too much celelebrity and media spotlight was put on them, and pressure. Few bands can ever really survive that in terms of keeping the focus needed to sustain
maintaining the greatness of when they started.
But, in the case of Bono and all he's done for humanity, if that meant a less great U2 then I guess the trade off was worth it.

His worldly knowledge and his Interaction with some powerful world leaders, give us huge insights into Bono/U2 World .
I Could Listen To Bono All Day- Every Day. I'm So Glad That I Come Across This Interview.

Bono does pay personal taxes in Ireland, since that is his residence. It is the U2 operations that are now based out of the Netherlands. This idea that somehow he is not paying taxes under Irish law is a delusion.

You people who bash Bono for being rich...
Really?!?! So you aren't allowed to be rich and help others at the same time?
Are you only allowed to help others when you are middle class or poor?!?!?
There is nothing wrong of him wanting to be rich while helping others.
Bono has saved and improved so many lives etc... and some of you shit talk him because he wants to be rich himself while he does it?

No. Not just something I read. Personal experience. Not putting the Irish down. Lovely people. The thing is - when Bono gets on his soapbox, people complain. Then he doesn't say anything - people complain. He's a rock star. Not his job to organize the world. I DO remember several occasions when Bono spoke of injustices and violence in Ireland -good times and bad. I prefer to see him on a stage and not behind a podium.

A bunch of very vain and shallow comments here. Everyone has a story to tell. Everyone has to do what they can with what they have. I don't envy Bono but I'm pleased he has done well with what has been given to him. If you haven't been around "A" type personalities, you don't realize that there are differences. Much like "principalities, powers, etc" in the angelic realm. So to within the human one.

In essence great stuff. From personal experience his stance on the Irish have a history of injustice is fully dimensional. I left Dublin, aged 3 and my family moved to a provincial town where people of Anglo Irish descent (on one side) were not welcome. I believed myself to be Irish, but was treated as a hostile enemy. So Bono, look at the injustices within your own country before you take on the challenges of others. You'll have more credibility that way!!

Love them or hate them, Bono and U2 are perhaps the only modern artists of any kind to realize and grasp the inherently human contradiction of their own Ethical(Aristotelian Ethics - not that abomination of a concept called "social ethics") natures over/against their fortune laden individually aesthetic talents. Aesthetics - all aesthetics - is contemplative and abstract - while Ethics demands of each individual to constantly act, to choose, to become, and not just contemplate - thereby becoming concrete and not abstract. It is indeed world historically rare to find artists who possess even a bit of dialectical thinking and thus appropriating to themselves the disjunctive that every human being faces at every moment of his or her existence. .

I just wish Bono would start paying attention to U2's music
Either stop releasing crap or pull the plug on the band

+Kieran Fox How am I wrong? Their last who albums have been shit. Releasing all those classic albums gave him power and voice to speak on humanitarian issues. The last two albums make him look like a joke.

It's how our bodies respond to gmo products, each person individually, as to whether gmo's are good for us, individually, or not.
Science is not the mere point,... it's our individual body's response that matters. Our bodies respond to everything we consume and do. Our bodies give us answers by response. Science in regard to diet is a generality of types of people.

Bono has never let himself be trashed in tabloids, gone to rehab, divorced, arrested yadda. He's had the same working and personal relationships over 30 plus years. He is talented and successful. He does good things.Im sure hes going to throw that all away to get away with some taxes. I dont think so.people are just mad because you really cant say bad about him.

The interviewer seems a bit intense. Bono seems a bit off, as if this isn't the kind of interview he's used to, or was expecting. There's a disconnect between the two of them, and I get the sense that Bono's trying to shape the conversation but feeling himself like he's not getting there.

I'd like to see the proof of both of those things. Anyhow, I'm not really here to argue with you. The reality is the world is a complicated place and to do good sometimes takes doing bad. As a for istance, U2 employees probably hundreds of people when they're on the road. Same can be said for other companies, it's just not perfect out there so you try and move forward to making things "more" right.

There are people online who claim they saw Elvis at various locations, and big foot sightings too. If Bono isn't paying his taxes. The government would go after him. You know, the old saying.

He lives out his Christianity probably better than anyone. It’s through action, he doesn’t just talk about it. Too many talkers out there
