The fact that some people see this guy as being anything other than humble and intelligent blows my mind. Every single answer he gives, ever, is pure class. It's all credit to others. He doesn't badmouth, or self-aggrandize. He makes music and tries to make a difference.
Yes, he has contributed many donations, but he should not divulge that to the public to prevent himself from being seen as a self-important cock (compare that to Prince who kept all his donations private). And creative artist? Well, U2 have done a number of solid songs despite their limited talent, but Bono is not an incredible creative artist. Paul McCartney, Prince, Stevie Wonder, and Brian Eno are creative geniuses. Bono is not...
@ Greg Stella Could not have put it better myself. I'm Irish and the thing that forever boggles my brain (and annoys me intensely) is the fact that the one place where he gets the most stick/criticism is his home country. Go figure. Personally I've always had a hell of a lot of time for the guy, I admire him greatly and he makes me proud to be an Irish man. I've been a fan of U2 from the get go. Growing up in Ireland when I was younger Bono for me was always a voice of positivity when around me negativity seemed to reign supreme. To Bono I say: 'Keep on rockin; in the free world" bro. It certainly needs you. Over and out.
Thank you Bono, your music lifts the spirit, and your spirit lifts us, showing us that we can make a difference. You inspire me to reach farther, and do more .
I love their music, I love seeing them perform, I love what they stand for, and I will continue to do so until my time is up. Bono is a family man, a proud activist for every thing good that this world should be. I you don;t like Bono then either you are ignorant or you don;t like the world you live in. He loves his family, he is kind to everyone he meets, he does nothing but positive things with his time.. What's not to like!!??
Bono truly is a man from a different world, beyond his time and beyond this world. He is one of the most brilliant men you will ever meet. He's funny, but never underestimate what this man is capable of. A true legend, absolutely will always love him and U2! Truly one of a kind...
4:13 "I come from a long line of traveling salesmen on my mother's side." Quoting his own song lyrics. Was fully expecting him to say. "I wasn't going to buy just anyone's cockatoo."
I'm so proud of Bono for making it his life's work to get involved in the politics of poverty. Yes, he's over the top, large ego, but I love him for it. I wish I had half his energy. I lived in Africa for 9 years, and it wore me out. Bravo to him for not giving up.
My hero! the band my drive thru many a tough times in life, as with them I never waiver, they are always there for us!. Thank you U2, you're the best...
Great interview... and Charlie Rose does a great interview and history on BONO love this!! excellent!! U2 is classic and will remain part of our culture. Righton!
32:09 Songs are like prayers, they are to us...songs are a preoccupation...all of these problems are spiritual...Songs come from somewhere else. Bono is a Christian I respect. He uses language that is fresh, he's engaged in problems that face our world, and he strikes me as a person of integrity.
All I know is that what Bono says makes sense. We are all hypocritical in a lot of ways. Sometimes the best we can do is to have good intentions. He is not perfect. Nor am I and neither are you. Do the best that YOU can while you're here. :)
Bono has followed a life affirming philosophy right from the start and has used his fame to pull together the worlds best minds, the best ideas, to solve a difficult problem. God bless him for standing up for what he believes and inspiring millions to act.
KEEP IT UP GUYS! KEEP GOING, KEEP GIVING, NEVER STOP GRIEVING FOR THE LESS UNFORTUNATE.... I LOVED YOU GUYS EVER SINCE I HEARD YOUR FIRST RECORD IN THE EARLY 80'S. NEVER STOP DOING WHAT YOUR BEST AT STAYING GROUNDED AND JUST BEING HUMAN..WHAT A WONDERFUL HUMAN YOU GUYS ALL ARE!
I love when he says that his songs are like his parents (30:25)! I couldn't find a better description for these dynamics, and I think most songwriters would agree with it
Why only as good as Boy? They have a number of much better albums. Oh wait, i get it...you're the hipster who says they only like their early music from before they became big (and in U2's case better).
October was great, War prettygood, Under a Blood Red Sky was great, The Unforgettable Fire was great, Joshua Tree was great, Rattle and Hum was great, Achtung Baby was great, Zooropa was great, and after that I started losing interest. However Boy has always been the album by which they built their standard of greatness. They sounded hungry, and fresh. After Joshua Tree too much celelebrity and media spotlight was put on them, and pressure. Few bands can ever really survive that in terms of keeping the focus needed to sustain maintaining the greatness of when they started. But, in the case of Bono and all he's done for humanity, if that meant a less great U2 then I guess the trade off was worth it.
This interview is one of the reasons why I not only respect what Bono talks about. His worldly knowledge and his Interaction with some powerful world leaders, give us huge insights into Bono/U2 World . I Could Listen To Bono All Day- Every Day. I'm So Glad That I Come Across This Interview. ... When Bono Mentioned About God Walking Through The Room, It Very Much Reminded Me How God Moving Through A Large Room - And Telling Me To - WAIT, .... Is Actually Reminiscent To Me , I know Of That Experience Very Well. Thanks for this great interview.
Bono does pay personal taxes in Ireland, since that is his residence. It is the U2 operations that are now based out of the Netherlands. This idea that somehow he is not paying taxes under Irish law is a delusion.
You people who bash Bono for being rich... Really?!?! So you aren't allowed to be rich and help others at the same time? Are you only allowed to help others when you are middle class or poor?!?!? There is nothing wrong of him wanting to be rich while helping others. Bono has saved and improved so many lives etc... and some of you shit talk him because he wants to be rich himself while he does it? Really?!?! Like really?!?!?
Too many people these days bash rich people from CEOS to celebrities to doctors. It's like you have to be poor in order to help the poor. It's stupid really.
Bono I think summed himself up when he says he doesn't like John Lennon's "imagine" - dreaming was a sixties thing, today we are more driven by doing, action.
'' Religion happens when the spirit leaves the building'' ,,,BONO',,,, and in this interview, GOD's wisdom has been pour onto Mr. Paul Hewson,, Never falling for the entrampment of Chralie Rose's Comments and questions,,,, thank you GOD for using Mr. Hewson as an instrument in teaching us the lesson of how by being Humble and true you keep us Blessed
Lots of rehasing of much of the old Bono stories and material but you have to admit, he has that special spark and sharp perspective. "We live well..." They sure do. I love his energy and luminosity even if he reuses a lot of the same catch phrases
U2 only wants to put out great albums, and I mean truly GREAT albums. That's why it takes a long time to make them, they are constantly rewriting them and perfecting them. U2 has been around more than 30 years, long past when most other bands would have broken up. Just be glad they are still making music and touring.
Gostaria de ter meu ingles apurado para conseguir entender tudo que vc fala em suas entrevistas cujo conteudo me parece divertido e muito interessante.
No. Not just something I read. Personal experience. Not putting the Irish down. Lovely people. The thing is - when Bono gets on his soapbox, people complain. Then he doesn't say anything - people complain. He's a rock star. Not his job to organize the world. I DO remember several occasions when Bono spoke of injustices and violence in Ireland -good times and bad. I prefer to see him on a stage and not behind a podium.
A lot of people talking shit about bono and U2 are extremely ignorant. This man has been doing community work with pioneers when a lot of you haters were still in diapers or weren't even born. Like honestly, if you didn't grow up listening to U2 and understand what they've contributed in the world, you have no say. It's funny how U2 went from being the most respected and loved band of 87 & 91 where everyone understood what they were about. To now where everyone is whining like babies and not really saying or doing anything. fuck ya'll
you are ignorant since you havent noticed who his buddies are, the Rothschilds and the Rockefellers, the people responsible for worlds poverty and injustice, Bill Gates also.... doing their "community work", you are so so so fuckin deceived you cant see farther than your nose... cause you are a slave to their music, so you cant see the truth. R.I.P.
I was at U2 very first USA show at the Ritz NYC, Bono is like the Irish Muhammad Ali, Hes the real deal.. Hes asking the richest of the world to do the same. To not have the spirit of greed you must do this work. Just imagine if Jay Z and P Diddy thought like Bono. Bono is married to the same women for 32 years,
I don't see anything similar about Robin Williams the comdian? and Bono. Are you saying they were twins separated at birth, but it isn't Robin Williams the comedian.
Again your human and not the only person in the world or rock goddess that hasn't paid his freaking taxes....So what! He has blessed us w/ 30 years of music that has touched my life and I'm sure many others. They are amazing! and I'm Irish as well and understand just hoe fragile are lives are and can so quickly stop, because of the lessons we learned from the Irish potato famine.
A bunch of very vain and shallow comments here. Everyone has a story to tell. Everyone has to do what they can with what they have. I don't envy Bono but I'm pleased he has done well with what has been given to him. If you haven't been around "A" type personalities, you don't realize that there are differences. Much like "principalities, powers, etc" in the angelic realm. So to within the human one.
I had a gun held to my head, in phoenix, and got jacked! It changed me forever! I new a girl in Parker valley rehab who was in columbine, her name is Stephany and that shit really changed her forever ! The incident in Aurora scared me so, I haven't been to a movie since! Please! Please Bono! Make room for America in your ONE campaign! No more guns handguns no more violence, Peace, and kindness to all, scribbles t j DENVER!
His eyes have developed a light sensitivity from all the flashbulbs they've endured over the last 30 years. That's why he needs to wear the shades all the time.
In essence great stuff. From personal experience his stance on the Irish have a history of injustice is fully dimensional. I left Dublin, aged 3 and my family moved to a provincial town where people of Anglo Irish descent (on one side) were not welcome. I believed myself to be Irish, but was treated as a hostile enemy. So Bono, look at the injustices within your own country before you take on the challenges of others. You'll have more credibility that way!!
Love them or hate them, Bono and U2 are perhaps the only modern artists of any kind to realize and grasp the inherently human contradiction of their own Ethical(Aristotelian Ethics - not that abomination of a concept called "social ethics") natures over/against their fortune laden individually aesthetic talents. Aesthetics - all aesthetics - is contemplative and abstract - while Ethics demands of each individual to constantly act, to choose, to become, and not just contemplate - thereby becoming concrete and not abstract. It is indeed world historically rare to find artists who possess even a bit of dialectical thinking and thus appropriating to themselves the disjunctive that every human being faces at every moment of his or her existence. .
I actually know why because my mother has the same problem and I read about him having it too. It's because of a weird filmy growth on the eye that has to do with some sort of blockage. It's a rare condition. My mother has to wear UV protective glasses all the time or it will get worse.
I'm not here to comment on Bono's talent or charm. But, I can say that he has done some good things for the oppressed in life. This is good with the LORD and Jesus Christ.
+Kieran Fox How am I wrong? Their last who albums have been shit. Releasing all those classic albums gave him power and voice to speak on humanitarian issues. The last two albums make him look like a joke.
It's how our bodies respond to gmo products, each person individually, as to whether gmo's are good for us, individually, or not. Science is not the mere point,... it's our individual body's response that matters. Our bodies respond to everything we consume and do. Our bodies give us answers by response. Science in regard to diet is a generality of types of people.
Bono has never let himself be trashed in tabloids, gone to rehab, divorced, arrested yadda. He's had the same working and personal relationships over 30 plus years. He is talented and successful. He does good things.Im sure hes going to throw that all away to get away with some taxes. I dont think so.people are just mad because you really cant say bad about him.
The interviewer seems a bit intense. Bono seems a bit off, as if this isn't the kind of interview he's used to, or was expecting. There's a disconnect between the two of them, and I get the sense that Bono's trying to shape the conversation but feeling himself like he's not getting there.
I'd like to see the proof of both of those things. Anyhow, I'm not really here to argue with you. The reality is the world is a complicated place and to do good sometimes takes doing bad. As a for istance, U2 employees probably hundreds of people when they're on the road. Same can be said for other companies, it's just not perfect out there so you try and move forward to making things "more" right.
There are people online who claim they saw Elvis at various locations, and big foot sightings too. If Bono isn't paying his taxes. The government would go after him. You know, the old saying.
The fact that some people see this guy as being anything other than humble and intelligent blows my mind. Every single answer he gives, ever, is pure class. It's all credit to others. He doesn't badmouth, or self-aggrandize. He makes music and tries to make a difference.
I agree. He's a genuinely decent person -- on top of being an incredible creative artist.

Dave long is a plonker fact
I wish I could meet bono...I love this man...and his music.
One of the reasons I have loved Bono for many years. Not only the way he sings, writes, performs, his looks, but the way he speaks.
He's a great man and absolutely fearless.
Thank you Bono, your music lifts the spirit, and your spirit lifts us, showing us that we can make a difference. You inspire me to reach farther, and do more .
Great interview. I enjoyed it. Bono is an independent thinker. A good, smart, intelligent man.
Not exactly Keith Richards is he
Bono truly is a man from a different world, beyond his time and beyond this world. He is one of the most brilliant men you will ever meet. He's funny, but never underestimate what this man is capable of. A true legend, absolutely will always love him and U2! Truly one of a kind...

I love conscience rock! Their early music challenged me on a lot of social issues.
what a unique human being...so knowledgeable...erudite and productive in his life....bono truly is an inspiration....
I think a lot of people don't realise how much good he has done... still doing ...
Not only do I love him I respect him.
I am still so interested in Bono and his band.
This man is amazing.
Bono is such a great and intelligent guy! I respect him a lot!
Idk why do so many people hate U2 so much...
Haters love to hate. Most Jews hate him.
Thank You, Charlie Rose.
You almost got him to tell you his perfect U2 song... Impossible to answer as I'm sure it's still in his head.
To this day, so far
Bono said that Far Away( So Close)
Is his favorite song
Which is phenomenal!!!!!
My hero! the band my drive thru many a tough times in life, as with them I never waiver, they are always there for us!. Thank you U2, you're the best...
Amazing interview. Bono is one incredible person on and off stage.

U2 changed my life when I was 13-I'll always have a place in my heart for them..i just wish they'd put out new music a little more often.
Great interview, thankyou Bono and Charlie Rose....
All I know is that what Bono says makes sense. We are all hypocritical in a lot of ways. Sometimes the best we can do is to have good intentions. He is not perfect. Nor am I and neither are you. Do the best that YOU can while you're here. :)

I love Bono.
I get it, he's a great artist, singer, poet, and human,
Bono is a great man,intelligent
and made a massive impact with U2
many have their opinions on him but in my opinion he deserves credit
Love and admire him
I love when he says that his songs are like his parents (30:25)! I couldn't find a better description for these dynamics, and I think most songwriters would agree with it
Henrí Galvão do not send money to overseas charity's your funding corruption sex rings and child labour
What a truly inspirational, and human, leader...
Bono has done a lot of great things for humanity. Kudos. Now here's a challenge, you and your band make an album as good as the first one, Boy.
Why only as good as Boy? They have a number of much better albums.

They made one better than Boy, it was called The Unforgettable Fire!! lolol Long Live U2!!
Joshua Tree was untouchable IMO. There's a reason it is the biggest selling album of all time!
How about Rattle and Hum?
Bono is sooo great.
This interview is one of the reasons why I not only respect what Bono talks about.

BONO IS A HUGE INSPIRATION TO THIS WORLD!!! BONO HAS A HEART MADE OF GOLD!!! BONO DOES GIVE A SHIT!!!..BONO IS A WONDERFUL HUMAN BEING!!!
Ha...love how he quoted Breathe lyrics in this interview. Beauty
Bono I think summed himself up when he says he doesn't like John Lennon's "imagine" - dreaming was a sixties thing, today we are more driven by doing, action.
Fantastic. Just fantastic.

No Line is so damn underrated
Love that guy.
Wat an amazing man front man from Dublin---
I WISH YOU WOULD COME TO BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA!!!
Bono does things- good things, most people just try to knock them if possible, don't be afraid of success, and appreciate genius
U2 only wants to put out great albums, and I mean truly GREAT albums. That's why it takes a long time to make them, they are constantly rewriting them and perfecting them.
U2 has been around more than 30 years, long past when most other bands would have broken up. Just be glad they are still making music and touring.
Christ teaches us that. The benchmark in every thing we do is high for Christians. Everything. Halleluja for Bono!
There are about 5 people on the planet who I would take a bullet for. Bono is one of them.
He looks like he could be Robin Williams's Irish cousin.
Thank you! I've been trying to figure out who he reminds me of for YEARS!!!
Yep, I've always thought so!
I've thought so, too, especially since the "Sweetest Thing" video!
U2 always the best and Bono always the greatest...

Bono is married to the same women for 32 years,
Muhammad Ali is actually part Irish. His grandfather is from Ennis down the road from me.

In what minute does Bono mention Damien Rice?
didnt say it was his book , it is written by Harry Browne , PAL
I have to be on the Baker Rolls to say I am Cherokee...you have that in Ireland?
Why wouldn't Charlie put complete episodes like this one on UA-cam?
What's the point of keeping posting very short clips?
