Hello Joe! I'm the pilot of the Phoenix list; I've been tweaking the list here and there, but this is the list that I've played most recently. Since then, I've swapped the Perilous Voyage for Unauthorized Exit (since Surveil is better then Scry in this deck), and I've even cut the Fatal Push for an extra copy of that card. The idea behind the 4 sb Surgical Extractions was the idea of comboing faster or having more shots at a turn 1 Dark/Ritual Buried Alive play. It's extremely greedy, but I like this all-in version of the deck list. Unfortunately, this deck can sometimes be out raced by the incredibly consistent Boros aggro decks, but sometimes we win that race
Surprised not to see psychic frog decks on here with how popular it has been on the ladder lately (been running into it a lot in high-tier diamond, as well as playing it myself)
Could just be play rate right now. I switch filters down to platinum and there is this list at 56% win rate with 66 games which may be what you are running into Companion 1 Lurrus of the Dream-Den Deck 4 Fatal Push 2 Island 1 Swamp 4 Brainstorm 4 Mishra's Bauble 4 Mana Drain 2 Flooded Strand 4 Polluted Delta 3 Watery Grave 2 Scalding Tarn 2 Misty Rainforest 1 Toxic Deluge 2 Treasure Cruise 2 Drown in the Loch 2 Mystic Sanctuary 1 Sheoldred's Edict 1 Lorien Revealed 4 Orcish Bowmasters 1 Undercity Sewers 1 Sink into Stupor 4 Tamiyo, Inquisitive Student 1 Chthonian Nightmare 4 Nethergoyf 4 Psychic Frog Sideboard 1 Lurrus of the Dream-Den 1 Flusterstorm 2 Thoughtseize 2 Surgical Extraction 1 Toxic Deluge 2 Aether Gust 1 Bloodchief's Thirst 1 Test of Talents 1 The Meathook Massacre 1 The Filigree Sylex 2 Vexing Bauble
Belcher can actually win on TURN 1... I pulled that off today, it was disgusting. Start with Leyline of Sanctity (goes directly to the battlefield) - then untapped black land, Dark Ritual x2, Beseech the Mirror (with Bargain, sacrificing the Leyline) - play Irencrag Feat or Channel from the deck, play Belcher from the hand, win the game. I even had a spare card in hand after all this - another MDFC land. The Leyline could have been a 1-mana dorky artifact instead and it would still have worked.
I think the elementals deck I featured in this video is more fun of then super competitive. The past 4C elemental control decks with up the beanstalk are likely much better. Just look at my aetherhub and you can see the past lists. Jeskai seems super reasonable. Variation is being played in modern, and here you get mana drain over counterspell
@@MTGJoe thanks I’ll give it a look. Regarding dimir control, do you think this version is better and more versatile than dimir frog? I like this version but not having a wincon throws me off a bit.
@AndreaScrimieri I haven’t played much of either, I’ve tried but don’t enjoy the deck. Bowmaster is the win con, it’s just a very slow, drawn out win con. You could add hall to manabase to speed it up or try to frog as well. I just don’t have the reps in this archetype to have strong feelings one way or another
You say that Dimir control has a hard time against Ajani, as you are reliant on Bloodchief's Thirst, but I feel like it's not too too bad, as you also have 2 Sheoldred's Edict in the deck. Am I wrong in thinking this perhaps? (new to mtg, so just trying to understand better :)
@emillyst5591 thanks! I have varying degrees of familiarity with decks, with Dimir being one deck I personally don’t enjoy playing so not many reps through it
@@MTGJoe I actually just looked at the Jeskai control list, which has only 14 cards in the sideboard. Maybe a companion wasn't added, or the creator just forgot to add a card? Do you maybe have a recommendation for what card to put in the last spot?

Thanks for the insight! The deck looks really sweet
Happy to see a izzet deck in the list

Thank you as always for your work! I'm thinking of crafting 4c beans deck and jeskai control. Do you think they're viable in this meta?

Brain overlooked edict. Was thinking just the bloodchief. My mistake
