So great to get this kind of insight from someone actually playing in the tournament as it happens. I'm old enough to remember the days when chess coverage was limited to a dry chess column in the newspaper consisting of little more than a ton of notation.
Great comment. Yeah, it really is. I find myself hoping that Hikaru does well because it's so great to have him share his thoughts with us here, especially while it is all in progress. Nobody else would do that.
FIDE officials should act within their jurisdiction. Without any reason basically doubting someone for cheating, right before the game begins, isn't considerate at all
@@molteriet The FIDE officials demanded to see Hikaru's credit cards, as one of them was metal and set off detectors. The reasoning given is that a metal credit card may contain some kind of tech with fair play concerns.
Dude his life is chess. They think all the time. While traveling , while swimming or whatever. Ofcourse if you see Hikaru is well prepared but against Alireza he was not well prepared but look at Fabi he plays fresh ideas every game. You can see the difference. Hikaru has spent a lot of time probably but others have much more. Nepo has his WC prep ready.
Dude, you did listen to what he said, right? It wasn't necessarily prep; he's just played that line a ton, and like played one, maybe two tiny inaccuracies, which no one plays at 100% best moves... enough to remove any winning chances, but Rapport also didn't play it at 100%. Two great players battling to a draw. Not unexpected. But, I'm glad it was an easier draw for Naka then game 3 was. 👍
The insight you give in these videos is amazing. Basically like free chess lessons. I’ve always been weaker on strategy than tactics so it’s so helpful to listen to the analysis of a strategic genius
Great tournament so far Hikaru! I see myself cheering more for you than for any of my favourite national or international football teams. Please keep your good mood, we support you no matter what result. It‘s insane to learn about your thinking process. It is as if Ronaldo, Messi or Neymar explain us exactly why they play the way they play in a world cup match
Same here, and I also find interested in all of the matches and how the players are doing. This keeps me motivated to continue playing chess and improving
Its so awesome to see content like this from an ongoing candidates match. I've read lots of books covering the history of the world chess championship, but this real time commentary takes the cake! Thank you Hikaru.
I can tell Hikaru’s in a good mood because he’s in a reading comments mood. I’d be happy too to pull out a draw as black having hidden that theory in my wallet
Thanks GM Hikaru, it’s pretty crazy to have you doing these breakdowns the very day you play the game. Best of luck against Nepo, he’s playing amazingly.
Great video, doesn’t talk down to the club player, and tells us what he is thinking and where he may have gone wrong. Something for everyone here especially endgame play: my nemesis. AND doesn’t take 2 hrs to tell us. Fast, efficient, elegant. Rock on, Hikaru!
Guess it's related to the incidence at the beginning of the game where some arbiter brought metal detectors to search Hilary's wallet for possible cheat materials..? lol
I'm really loving these recaps, and just the whole tournament. The games start at 11pm for me, but it's well worth the tiredness. I'm very eager to see tonight's game, I'm sure you'll have a full bag of tricks ready for Ian!
I feel like tomorrow's game is crucial for the whole tournament. Even though there is still a long way to go, if Hikaru wins tomorrow's match, we might see bongcloud again xd. Keep it up Hikaru, make chess as popular as never before! Wish you all the wisdom, discipline and a bit of luck. Bring it champ!
It is so sad that Richard no longer represents Hungary. He was our pride but now we have to wait for another warrior to challenge super GMs in these tournaments...
Hikaru can remember chess moves from years ago and so many openings and positions but he can’t remember rapport nationality. 😂😂go Hikaru we are rooting for you!!
Hikaru, Rapport has a reputation for playing unorthodox moves. Did the possibility of being faced with an unusual move play a factor into your prep? Did you have to factor for more possibilities? Or did you just figured if you played "your game" you'd do fine?

did he talk about this in the video? i don’t understand this comment
I don't think that is unreasonable given where tech is going, but it should have been done in private and not when streaming live for the whole world.
Hikaru: "I'm not gonna study that much for this tournament".
Also Hikaru: plays half the match within preparation.
Did he say he wasn’t going to study?🤔

As a FIDE official, we of course had to check if he didn't write 'mate him' or 'take the juicer' on his credit card.
Lmao... I'm dead😂
Or worse, he could have been carrying a wooden shield!
"Wide peepos" would've gotten him disqualified.
Thank you so much for hammering these out during the candidates! Legendary
So impressed with how quickly you get these out. Super entertaining as always
I marvel at the volume of thought displayed here, and recalled, and crammed into a few hours, unfathomable.

Its crazy how your in the candidates and making recaps. Props!
