This is the 2022 BMW Z4. The Z4 got an LCI refresh for this year so let's talk about the pre-LCI version.
I went into this review, thinking that the Z4 will be a small, uncomfortable, 2 seat roadsters with the pleasant but typical Bmw driving characteristics. But I was blown away with how great of an actual sports car this can be. This was the m40i variant, so it boasts the B58 incline 6 cylinder engine with 382 HP and 369 Torques. This is mated to a ZF8 speed transmission with paddle shifts and strictly rear wheel drive. Gas mileage EPA is low 20's city / 30 hwy. In my opinion, this is the best BMW powertrain matching excellent performance, reasonable gas mileage, and a great character. This years LCI refresh also got the additional manual transmission as an option in the m40i variant, making this an awesome option for those who want a 2 door roadster with good power, rear wheel drive and a manual transmission.
New Z4's starting around $66,000 but you can pick up a slightly used one in the mid 50's. Though in comparison to other 2 door coupes it's quite expensive, if you compare it to the Mercedes SL, it becomes quite the attractive offering.
It has a fairly large trunk for it's size, good front passenger space making this a viable every day driver. The Z4 has all of BMW's necessary tech, fantastic materials and great handling, this offers a lot for the money you're paying. The interior is similar to that of the 3 and 4 series with it's own flare and character which distinguishes it slightly from the other models within the line up.
I was pleasantly surprised driving this Z4. The powertrain is excellent. The ride was quite synonymous to that of an M4 that we drove. Steering was quick and precise and the rear wheel drive set up gives it that unique driving character that BMW's are known for. The only thing that would make this that closest thing to a M car is that manual transmission, which finally this year is available as an option!

Got mine 12 days ago, same color, same rims. Exept for the orange reflectors on the side, luckily. It looks real badass and it drives like a dream

It is badass. I have M40i and very rare in my area. Get lots of compliments:) really quick and fast. Will be tuning it soon to 470hp.

But all the ‘h8ers’ aside, nice choice of car to bring back into our minds. Shows understanding of the genre and scene. Keep going. I reckon you’ll go further. More effort and excitement but not fake. More visuals and noise from the car and some hard cornering or burnouts or breaking traction adds to it pretty quick. Us blokes are a simple bunch to entertain. If it’s funny and fast it’s great. We don’t care about the other stuff non drivers do.

The E89 was the peak! Good styling, a good power train and a very unique interior.
@@MichalMotors Exactly...!!! BMW should really focus on making the next gen again as sexy, exclusive and enticing as the E89, because it really was the peak in BMW's sportscars. Both the inside as the outside was very, very good. Compared to that the G29 is really a disappointment. And I think the E89 is a future classic for sure.
The M40i is an awesome car. Very well designed in terms of it's styling beautiful lines and not dated. It's engine B58 is one of the best BMW engines BMW have ever developed.
