You did a great job explaining what you are doing and how to do it! Any tech school that teaches small engine mechanics would to have you. Thanks for the videos. Very big help!
Very good video!!Thank you for taking your time and doing it! This will help me out a lot. So I bet that is the whole reason I need to upgrade my case.
Dude! You forgot the Oil Delivery Pipe that goes in under the clutch basket, held on with an 8mm head bolt, and goes through the crankcase center! ... That long tube with an o-ring on each side ...
Would the 04 yz450f engine have the oil squitter? Im going to redo a 450 engine soon, just shut off while riding. Do not sure if the crank gave up, havent checked it yet. So getting a full rebuild.
Dont put it back together yet. drill out the hole to fit the squiter and use a small drill bit to add a oil passage. I did the oil squiter mod on my 2005 yfz450. the 04-06 models did not have the squiter
I'm in the middle of a rebuild now and found your video. I Can't get the thing to shift like you do after the cases are together? I split the cases again looking for a problem, found the forks did need a little wiggle to get them to move but they did cycle through. But together they wont move more than a little jiggle. This happen sometimes that you know of? then is good when running? Thanks!
You should totally be able to shift through the gears on the bench. Did you remove the shift forks? Maybe you got one mixed up with the other? That's usually what causes what your experiencing
@@UpAllNight91 Thanks man! I tore back into it and found I had the shift guide plate upside down, Shifts perfect now. Your video saved me alotta time I appreciate the effort put into posting this video
I’m putting the bottom end back together but once I snug the case bolts the crank is tight. If I loosen all the bolts it’s smooth. I tried tapping on the ends of the crank but it didn’t help.
Ohh. I have had that happen before. What I found on that one was we was using aftermarket crank bearings and the bearings where slightly too wide down in the crank area. But also make sure the torx screws that holds the crank bearing retainers on are not protruding and rubbing on the side of the crank. Ive also seen that happen before. Hope that helps some
@@UpAllNight91 I just split the case. It seems it’s the bearing case like you said. I’m using hot rods crank. I also have new bearings I can try. Thanks for your reply I appreciate it 👍🏻
What was stamped on the crankshaft? An what was stamped on the new crankshaft etc 5TG10 , 5TG11 Yamaha’s part number doesn’t exactly match but along as their the same should work
I dont remember what was stamped on the cranks. And after my friend took that motor back home he installed it and sold the quad. But I did compare the cranks before installing it as I always do and they both seemed identical

Ahh ok. Thanks for the info. Off hand I can't remember what year that motor was, but maybe also it could be just a older motor on a new bike? I will reach out to my friend and ask him what year that was
@@UpAllNight91 yeah, I noticed the engine serial number is higher number than both my 2005 and 2006 which would make it a 2008. My engine Serial number is J323E-019183 trying to figure what motor I have I do have a squirter inside the case but I’ve heard deck can be fabricated in early motor can’t tell if it’s original or an aftermarket install
@@NaturalBorN44 Hard to tell, as there is nothing that documents what engine serial numbers belong to what year. I can tell you this though, the 2004-2005 start with "J317E" and my 2006 and a couple of others are "J323E-" (002033, 002370) and this one in the video, a 2008, is "JE23E-" (009754). So yours is at least higher than a 2008 so probably a 2009 or higher since the number (019183) is so much higher. This is all just a guess, course ... but an educated guess, at least.

No problem. Thanks for watching. The oil pump didn't show any signs of wear or damage but I still might have replaced it on my own bike. I might have done the crank bearings also. Good catch!!! I did go back in after the video and put that in.. after I seen it on the bench later lol. Video was already uploaded. But good eye!
You have to have the cases modified to the oil squirter
The little rooster is the boss😄😄
Hahahah. Crap, that little guy is mean!!! LoL
Thank you for this. I was wondering what a brand new OEM crankshaft comes like in the package.

From what I heard the oil squirter was started in 2008.
@@UpAllNight91 2007 :)
04 to 06 or 07 you must have the case machined for the oil mod
Why didn’t you change the clutch plates when you had the motor and clutch torn apart? You even mentioned they looked dark
It wasn't my quad and honestly the owner wanted to keep the job as affordable as possible. If it was mine, I agree. New clutches

do i need the 12 tooth oil pump gear

If your using a impact then you can just hold the crank

Yes. I believe it was hot rod kit on that motor that game me the same issues
Turned out to be the crank bearings. The ones on the case were a mm or so taller. Once I changed them it went to together smooth.
Awesome. Yeah same thing I ran into on a motor like that with a kit like that

Nothing holds the shift shaft in place?
Hello. The clutch cover will hold the shift shaft in place and keep it from slide towards the right.

I wouldn’t be doing that to a bearing they are case hardened, could cause damage
The oil squirter started in 2007. The only years without it are 2004-2006. Somebody must have swapped that clutch cover for an older one.
