I have got to take my hat off to you for taking these sort of jobs on, most builders I know would not touch that. One thing I do know is you will persevere and the finished job will look great. Always look forward to the end result of you're work.
Watching you demo is fun!!!. You are a true craftsman. Your time is worth its weight in gold your clients must be splendid to have you work for them!!!
Wish you lived near me, I would have you do all my decorating, Ive never seen such professionalism and pride from a tradesmen, if only they were all like you.
Really looking forward to see how you tackle a monumental challenge . Obviously patience and planning and thought will help you through these problems . I wish you the best and success
You need a stout heart to tackle that kind of job. This is what puts me off DIY - you chip at a bit of loose plaster and the whole bloody wall ends up coming away! Hats off to you, Sir.
I'm subbed to your channel, but rarely comment. However, credit where it's due, you're top tradesmen and I've learnt a lot from you. Kind regards from a Salford lad living in Ireland👍🏼
The thing I hate the most is when plasters patch walls up and don’t PVA them properly . It’s took me a while to learn to irritate the plaster with a scrapper to see if it is loose but in the past I have went to put a full coat on after a mist coat and the roller has pulled the plaster off the wall and straight into my troff contaminating roller and troff. I have told my father and brother in law if they plaster to do the full wall and use PVA correctly. Another thing that irritates me is when joiners use silicone to seal the gaps in skirting boards or even when they just caulk them. And electricians are the worst trade on building and renovation jobs. They smash your walls, cut wrong parts of the ceiling out and expect you to fill it and use pencil and write and draw all over. I hate that phrase the decorator will sort it out. I got the customer to get the plasterer back to sort it out last time. That phrase any one can be a decorator they don’t know how much we put peoples work right.
Well said... we are treated like the lowest trade when in reality we fix everything and always the last out the door. Things are getting better life made easier with water based finish.. and some other new materials. Thanks
I have been trying to decorate my flat over last few months and have nothing but the utmost respect for painters. Yeah I have done some plumbing/electric repairs but there is either right or wrong with those. Painting is a real skill and I just can't master it. Hats off
"They smash your walls, cut wrong parts of the ceiling out and expect you to fill it and use pencil and write and draw all over." You must be aware that the smashed walls and holes in the ceiling were needed, no one is going to do that just for fun. And obviously it's between the electrician and customer to decide who repairs the damage, most customers don't want to pay an electrician for something a labourer can do.
(Had to laugh at 14:33)...........I had a job like this on a kitchen once. I was untrained at the time and had no idea what to do but could just feel myself getting deeper-and-deeper in to it. It literally destroyed me, physically and emotionally.
Yes its one of those jobs... luckily I've seen it all before and thankfully I know how to deal with it... but what a pain... it will perfect for years to come easy decorating as well. worth the effort... thanks
bloody hells bells. I would take all plaster off the ceiling down. start with the floor joist first, fix brickwork that lintel above the window is carrying load above so it may need replacing then-new plaster or dot and dab boards. I'm sure u r more than capable to do the job .cant wait to see the end result. best of luck .
Absolute misssion of a job that one mate. Without wishing to offend anyone is this house lived in or is it a rental project your doing for a builder. I’m doing this kind of stuff daily at work renovating council properties (can drive me mad as they want it all doing quick as possible) and this is up there with the bad ones! I’m sure you will have it bang on after a week or so!
Your work ethic is a rarity. Glad your client agreed to do the right thing and hack the whole thing off. With energy prices not getting any cheaper and this being and external wall, I would fit insulated plasterboard.
I enjoyed that video, it was a like a mystery 1. Did you say ‘a little bit of dry rot on the lintel? I think I would be a little more concerned 2. That joist was looked so rotten that it was no longer supporting anything 3. Powdered Artex ! … asbestos Looking forward to you putting right.
Does this type of repair work actually fall to a painter and decorator? There's absolutely no doubt in my mind that you are well up to the job - you have amazing skills - but surely it should be down to a builder or plasterer? If you're doing the job, make sure you charge appropriately!!
Sometime it’s quicker to do the job yourself if your full booked. The other trades might take weeks to come back and then that means you have to reschedule. You could just get it nipped and then you don’t have to worry about going back.
This room turned into this nightmare because over the years the room was not repaired or improved properly. Just some fast work for a cheap price most likely
its another feather in a bow.., good stuff.

Wow! What a horror show… satisfying pulling all that crap off though!
We regulars know you don't like giving out rates.
But this one is interesting.
Would like to see the rest of this job. 👍
Jobs like this are why schedules always overrun in real life.
Nothing there that can't be sorted but its all extra time.
