    Outstanding video, what a great project, thank you. The piston comparison was very informative. So many questions, I hope you can help with. Will you use the 2AZ-FE donut oil cooler or a separate cooler? Now, both the 1AZ-FE and 2-AZFE pistons you show are from before 2006, so these 2AZ-FE pistons are NOT the ones prone to blockage and oil burning. I have never seen a direct comparison of the piston design for 2AZ-FE from before the oil problem (2006). Did you get any special technical data from Toyota? After 2006 (or 2008?) Oil squirters were added to try to cool the pistons to help prevent the oil blockage problem. Also, the water jacket insert was an attempt to cool the exhaust side of the block, where as you show there is no oil drain that can aid in taking away heat. Is a better water pump called for? Clearly the 2AZ-FE is designed for the low end torque for easy daily driving in the larger vehicles. For the more average modder, is the 1AZ-FE a more sensible engine and a more likely donor for a square high revving engine suitable for boost?

    Thanks for the info.
    Any possibility to compare post2006 2AZ cams to pre2006 2AZ? Which is better for a 1AZ to use ? Seems like the 1AZ is better built on the pistons for reliability and no balance shaft to deal with

    3years on! Can i get a comment? My car blew out the 2az fe engine and am thinking of putting in the 1az fe engine as a whole. Question 1. Without altering anything, are the mounts similar? Will i change the transmission?

    Can you answer a question for me? Does the 1azfe lower crankcase stiffener fit over the 2azfe crank and rotating assembly without colliding? Wondering if its feasable if you use that for balance shaft delete and go to the 1az oil pan with it?

    • @MODIFYUP
      @MODIFYUP  4 роки тому +2

      Sure does fit. A few of the TC guys have gone this way in the states instead of using the 2az lower skirt and blocking off the oil feed for the balance shafts.

    Hello , thank you very much for doing this comparison .
    Wish to ask the 1AZ piston compression height & 2AZ piston compression height ?
    Both block height is 231mm? I was thinking using 1AZ block & crankshaft , with lower piston height & longer Conrod ?? How much the dish of piston & head combustion chamber is 63.5 cc ?? I saw the wiseco piston write as 2AZ head on 40cc ?
    Thank you.

    Thank you so much for these videos, I’ve been waiting for someone to try this after reading about It for so many years online but no one actually ever attempting it. Now I know you said you were going for a turbo build, but do you think this setup would benefit over a regular 2az-fe naturally aspirated? Please let me know, as I want to do a high revving n/a build really soon. Thank you, subscribed

    • @MODIFYUP
      @MODIFYUP  4 роки тому

      Hi Rich thank you for your kind words. Thats an interesting question. For me yes I am looking for a very linear power curve with good response, freely high revving nature and high power output. Is that better than a naturally aspirated 2az, well it depends on what you are trying to achieve. Some prefer the sharp throttle response of an N/A over a turbo but what I can say is that a 2.4L will always make more torque down low than a de-stroked motor. What is the purpose of your build and what discipline will it be used in most?

    • @richm8482

      So i actually have a 2010 Toyota Matrix 2.4 awd, and I was trying to do a budget build, being that it’s an auto I didn’t want to go the turbo route for fear of the tranny not being able to handle it. Now I know I can send the tranny off to a shop like level 10 to build it but between that and the expense of the turbo it would be way out of budget. From all my research that I’ve done online I’ve seen a few people with fully built n/a 2az achieve 250 hp with e85. Read about TCPETE on scionlife. My build was gonna consist of port and polished head with oversize +1mm valves, Brian crower stage 3 cams with valve springs and retainers, 2az-fxe high compression pistons rated 12.5:1, 1az-fe knife edged crank, 1az-fe upper oil pan. As far as bolt ons you have plenty of choices, and TCPETE reached his numbers rather conservatively with off the shelf parts, 4-1 dezod red headed, weapon r Intake manifold, rx8 throttle body, nst pullies, I believe if he was to drop the extra cash on a custom header and intake manifold along with maybe individual cylinder tuning he could break the 300 whp mark on a n/a 2az-fe build. Now I know at that point your pushing it with budget but just an idea. And I believe with the 1az-fe destroke you can achieve even higher numbers being that you can rev higher like a k24 vs k20, obviously sacrificing some torque. The reason I went with the Matrix aside from already owning it and it being paid off, I love the all wheel drive and coming from a background of fwd cars when your pushing too much power after a certain extent it’s undriveable on the street, wheel hop, torque steer, I hate it lol All wheel drive you can launch the car, no wheel spin, not as much understeer depending how you have the suspension tuned up etc. the only disadvantage I have right now is weight, the car is a pig at 3,300 pounds compared to 2900 of a Scion tC, but with a gutted interior, bucket seat, ac delete, lithium 5 pound battery, custom carbon fiber drive shaft from the drive shaft shop, Carbon hood and trunk,forged rims, front bumper straight pipe exhaust, I’ve already taken out more than 300 pounds off the car, I still have yet to do lexan windows and gut the doors, maybe even a carbon fiber or lexan roof haha, sorry I know I’m rambling at this point, and a lot of people will say for the effort just buy a wrx or evo, but all this has been done throughout the years one mod at a time. I’m working with what I already have and I’m hoping to build an n/a matrix that can surprise an average wrx lol
