Jana Hunter: "The lyrics were inspired by an advice column in an old copy of Oui magazine I found in Arthur's apartment. The woman writing in to the column seemed genuinely torn between her love for her husband and her desire to fuck around. I find that kind of selfishness entirely relatable, the kind of thing all of us know about ourselves and find nearly impossible to admit. Those kinds of simultaneously internal and yet universal struggles bring me to tears. What if we could all acknowledge just those kinds of flaws, accept them, resolve not to judge each other? I mean, who wants this misery? This alienation? The greed that follows generations of repression? The jealously, oppression and injustice that come next? No. Hell no. If that's reality, I don't care to be a part of it. Or at least that's how I let myself feel from time to time, until I realize I love people and I'm part of the community of humankind and if things are gonna be better for anybody it's on me to do my part. Might seem like a lot but, for me, it's all in this song."
"i dont want to live possessed by a memory" that lyric really hit me. i spend my life wondering what if, what if i did something differently, what if i didn't push you away. I hold onto memories and I'm too hopeful. I need to move on in order to live my life
Five years ago, I was living a particularly tough moment in life. This song was basically describing it. Five years later, I'm struggling not to be that person again, but I turn into listening this once again because I just realized people will never change.
Sounds like a mix between My Bloody Valentine, Starsailor, Suede, and Beach House. Heard this while riding on a foggy country road just after sunrise. The landscape fit the song well, forgotten and haunting.
This song captured me, "I want to be young, I want to dance with an abandon, and I don't care about the real thing." I have so much in life, a loving wife, wonderful and beautiful children. I've travelled, I've had psychedelic experiences, I have a fulfilling career, I've been full of love and hate, wonder and awe -- I've experienced much and still I feel the urge for "more" and "new." This song isn't about partying and superficial lifestyles, it speaks to the heart of the human condition. We want to be infinite (young), we want to be free (dance with an abandon) and we are faced with limitation and death daily. So we tell ourselves stories and fool ourselves in order to evade the truth (I don't care about the real thing). Early on in the song they say "I'm married to a guy, I never need, until I die". That is a very telling line, the person is aware of the human need for a deep, meaningful and loving relationship. But is betraying a profound desire and suffering for it.
I'm married to A terrific guy I'll never leave Until I die [Chorus] But I just love to get out and get it on I don't wanna live possessed by a memory I want to be young, I want to dance with abandon And I don't care about the real thing [Verse 2] Everywhere I go I'm reporting from the scene Of somebody's Missed opportunity [Bridge] I love you. But it's not enough (But why?) Baby, I just know. There's so much more [Chorus] But I just love to get out and get it on I don't wanna live possessed by a memory I want to be young, I want to dance with abandon And I don't care about the real thing
I'm married to a terrific guy I'll never leave Until I die But I just love to get out and get it out I don't want to live possessed by a memory I want to be young I want to dance with ?*an abandon*? and I don't care about the real thing Everywhere I go I'm reporting from the sea Of somebody's Missed opportunity I love you But it's not enough But why?'Maybe I just know there's so much more But I just love to get out And get it out I don't want to live possessed by a memory I want to be young I want to dance with ?*an abandon*? And I don't care about the real thing
Are you sure she doesn't say: "But I just love to get out and get it ON" ? And I also agree with Syima - I always thought she said reporting from the scene.
people love to reduce songs to just "good sounds/vibes" or "sounds like this band mixed with this band" the basest reaction one can have is to equate a new experience with an old one or try to find reference points. if that was all there was, she wouldnt bother writing lyrics. the sentiment behind this song is the central aspect and shouldnt be cast aside to genre-fy
Just the fact that you mentioned Mum and especially THAT song, created an explosion of endorphins in my brain that ALMOST makes up for the sad fact that in a span of about 8 years, only one other person has brought up that band in a real life (or virtual) conversation. You're the second.
Love that woman the way suburban white girls love Prince. Except I'm nothing like a suburban white girl and she's nothing like Prince. But you get the idea.
The drums in this song are almost identical to those in Lover of Mine by Beach House, and the guitar arpeggios are also somewhat similar. Jana's voice is very close in range and character to Victoria's, they could almost sing each other's songs. The two bands are different, but they sure have a lot in common, though I also wouldn't say there's any imitation going on. Plus, I'd say Lower Dens make a lot more diverse music, i.e. this is the only song that bears resemblance to Beach House. Great stuff in any case.
I love this song very much...but...just realized how much it owes to Crywank's "Memento Mori.". The chorus is thematically and melodically VERY COMPRABLE to when Crywank sings "Oh I want to be a baby again" (etc.)
Look how many people on here saying “Beach house.” Yup. Blatantly Beach house. I said this years ago and this chick and her little buddy Codums Critchehooly raised hell. Biters.
This is pure poetry, a shot of life within the death surrounding us

Thanks for sharing this. We have to let go of the past, no matter how painful. Then we can move on to new memories :D

I'm so glad to have seen them in Lausanne ( Switzerland ) They are so perfect and they interacted with the public.. was amazing can't describe it
I can’t believe I’m just barely discovering this amazing group 😭 absolutely beautiful
Sounds like a mix between My Bloody Valentine, Starsailor, Suede, and Beach House.

Damn, that's what life is about - the right music and the right atmosphere :)
@@ratbagkennedy it really is

A stunning artistic statement and a real heartbreaker. Invoking Ferry in the best of ways.

Nice I've been to 6 shows but not Baltimore yet. I bet those are the most intense shows. Do they get a huge crowd there?
I love this sound: nostalgic, wistful.
My favorite song
so early 80s , I'm feeling it...
10 seconds in and I already love it
and then the chorus hits you unexpectedly
1 year after I first heard this song and still love it
10 seconds and I’m loving your mom.
Most tragic song about wanting to party.
Gorgeous & lush song.

I'm married to
A terrific guy
I'll never leave
Until I die
[Chorus]
But I just love to get out and get it on
I don't wanna live possessed by a memory
I want to be young, I want to dance with abandon
And I don't care about the real thing
[Verse 2]
Everywhere I go
I'm reporting from the scene
Of somebody's
Missed opportunity
[Bridge]
I love you. But it's not enough (But why?)
Baby, I just know. There's so much more
[Chorus]
But I just love to get out and get it on
I don't wanna live possessed by a memory
I want to be young, I want to dance with abandon
And I don't care about the real thing

yes that's right "an abandon" they posted it on their FB page yesterday
But I just love to get out and get it ON, not out :)
Lauren Shettlern
I think I hear 'everywhere I go,
I'm reporting from the scene (instead of sea),
of somebody's,
missed opportunity' 🖤
Are you sure she doesn't say: "But I just love to get out and get it ON" ? And I also agree with Syima - I always thought she said reporting from the scene.

Such a heartbreaking song but so Fucking true 🖤💔
nice one, reminds me of beach house
Jana
Jana is beautiful and Lower Dens is beautitful. Little pinpoints of beauty in an ugly pointless world.
my first thought was "New Beach House" -love them both
people love to reduce songs to just "good sounds/vibes" or "sounds like this band mixed with this band"

Çok iyi :')
onya lass
I hear Mum Green Grass of Tunnel at the end
where??
You get points for getting the reference.
Just the fact that you mentioned Mum and especially THAT song, created an explosion of endorphins in my brain that ALMOST makes up for the sad fact that in a span of about 8 years, only one other person has brought up that band in a real life (or virtual) conversation. You're the second.
очень красиво, и голос приятный

dear Jana...
the lead singer sounds like the lead singer from savages
New album out soon?
i really hope so!
They are working on one now. I read that in an article about this new track :)
Raffy Rillo hope so
just realized Jana is daddy ... yeah
it has nothing to do with beach house... i love them both.. but lower dens is different...
there are definitely similarities though
Denial, buddy. Look it up.
The drums in this song are almost identical to those in Lover of Mine by Beach House, and the guitar arpeggios are also somewhat similar. I love this song very much...but...just realized how much it owes to Crywank's "Memento Mori.". The chorus is thematically and melodically VERY COMPRABLE to when Crywank sings "Oh I want to be a baby again" (etc.)
SPOILER WARNING: leaked footage from Stranger Things 3
She has the exact same voice as Bono!
...my new buddy, Geoffrey, used to be in the band...
Sounds like Beach House

electrocute1979 bullshit
Oh, look. He said “better than beach house.” That’s cute.
Look how many people on here saying “Beach house.” Yup. Blatantly Beach house. I said this years ago and this chick and her little buddy Codums Critchehooly raised hell. Biters.
Wait! Issa woman?!
I think Jana Hunter is genderqueer and uses they/them pronouns, so no, I don’t think so (:
Genderfluid, excuse me.
