It was not about preferences but availability and black women weren't making themselves available. When they did the attitude followed.
This happened to me at my alma mater, freshman year 1981. First female I approached was black, wouldn’t even tell me her name. I said to myself, “Self, you are wasting your time!” Fell back, left her alone. Fast forward a few weeks, I’m sitting in the cafeteria going over an assignment with a white female I shared a class with. The sista spotted me, came over and turned on the drama. “You know you’re wrong! You have NO business sitting there talking with HER!” I did the full kirk out: “TF do you care? You wouldn’t even tell me your name! Get out of here with your BS!” My classmate asked me “what THAT was all about” and was stunned by the explanation. I never dated black women in college. I went to a PWI and the few sistas who were there simply weren’t checking for me. Meanwhile, curious white girls would walk up, introduce themselves, ask ME out and treated me very well (!). At 18-19 years old, given the choice between getting dissed by Keisha off the rip or (probably, but not always) blowing Rebecca’s back out on the fifth date, it’s really not a difficult choice. I’m 61, married to a black woman (and content!), but I remember that schizoid sista like I met her last week…

Feminine, family who's from the south and Midwest loves her. It's a shame that our experiences were around the same era and this ish is still going on today. I was shy and was only interested in playing D1. So, I really didn't have the same issues, but I paid attention.
