    I agree! I just installed the Amazon smart thermostat and I love it. I don’t need to do much from the thermostat itself.
    It does everything necessary from the app. Great product and price!

    I have purchased many of the items you have suggested from ring doorbell setups camera setups and security setups. And I just purchased this thermostat a few days ago. And I love it we got it on sale for $40 on Amazon day or whatever they called it. Since I already had a Honeywell thermostat that came with the house it was more or less unplug it and plug this one in. One thing that confused me when you started talking about this C wire you said this one didn't have C wire I think you meant to say it didn't need a C wire adapter. Because the one you showed does use the C wire. Anyway thanks again you are always right Steve.

    Thank you for the install and review vids. Can I use the app or echo to change or turn up temp in the middle of the night for like an hour for example. I live in the Desert and some nights in the summer require a colder hour so that I can go back to sleep. 😎

    I just bought one on amazon prime days, July 2022. I like the fact this one doesn't need batteries, which I always thought was an idiotic requirement for previous programmable thermostats. What I would have preferred is the option to setup the thermostat manually without having to install the app, just to get the HVAC back online as quick as possible. I tried, but it didn't want to respond. Maybe I wasn't holding my tongue right? Think of it as a basic/default/no Internet availability setup mode. I guess that just makes too much sense. Just goes to show just how competent Amazon's engineers are. Get the thing up and running, and then go back and play with the app, once you're enjoying a climate controlled environment with a cold beer. Amazon, is that too much to ask? Apparently so. Other than that, I like your back wall. Gives me some inspirational ideas.

    I have one. Thumbs up.
    One thing is that There is no temperature hold feature for vacation for example. Every other thermostat I’ve ever used has that feature.
    Update: in order to hold the temperature all you have to do is to disable the schedule.
    It works, it just doesn’t work the way I expected it to work.

    • @SummitBidTech
      @SummitBidTech 2 роки тому +1

      @@BoltRM that’s a good idea but to hold the temperature is much simpler than that. All you have to do is to disable the schedule. To I hold you just re-enable it.

      One other comment. There is a command to turn off the thermostat “Alexa turn thermostat off” but there is no corresponding command to turn the thermostat on. This is problematic because I find that it gets turned off inadvertently somehow often.
      There should be a corresponding voice command to turn it on.

  • @gbinman
    @gbinman Рік тому

    I like your review more than a couple others. You went deeper into the app details and were the first to mention that it had an auto mode to switch between heat and cooling. My main HVAC has a Honeywell full color unit that also has an auto mode. Most stats are exclusively heat or cool. I am like you, I want what I want and don't want some dopey device trying to guess. I use one schedule for every day that is regular and sleeping hours. I want it cooler when sleeping. Like you I am usually home so all the jibber jabber about away and home is just that.
    I think there is too much effort put into manipulating a simple system like HVAC. The only thing my system lacks is the ability to adjust the temp without walking to the thermostat (actually it does include a remote that can, and also can use the temperature at the remote to decide).

    I bought a Nest when we moved to FL and the Wi-Fi did not work. Called Nest Support and spent over 4 hours on the phone with them, Nest still did not connect to Wi-Fi and they wanted to follow up the next day. After spending another hour on the phone with them they said they were sending me a link to replace the thermostat. Sure enough the link did not work and I was not about to spend anymore time on the phone with them and ordered a replacement right from the Google store. When the replacement thermostat came in I took the head unit out of the box, swapped it out with the head unit on the wall put the bad head unit in the box and shipped it to the address provided. A month later I followed up to see where my refund was for the replacement. First they claimed I had to use the link they provided and when it didn't work I should have wasted even more time on the phone with them. They then claimed I never sent the entire thermostat kit back to them and they would not refund my money. I had read about this new thermostat from Amazon and I have never had a bad experience with them so today when my nest told me it no longer would connect to the internet I ordered this one immediately and will never waste my time with any Google product again. If their support was horrible it would be a major improvement but at this time they are just a bunch of liars that are useless. Stick with Amazon and screw Google before they screw you like they did to me.

    I have (make that had) the Honeywell T5 with Alexa Skill enabled and working for 3 years now. Starting this July 2022, after Honeywell forced the app name change/update to Resideo Home, Alexa started complaining "thermostat xxxx not found, check your power and internet connection" even though she was setting it. Alexa would always respond to "what is the thermostat set to" with no issue. So, I disabled the Honeywell Home skill, re-enabled it and reconnected it to what is now Resideo login. The prompts show the device but then I'm forced to "discover devices" and my thermostat never shows up any longer. I have a ticket open with Honeywell but they are referring me to Amazon. Yuck. This may never get resolved. THUS, I'm watching your video about the Amazon Thermostat that I just bought to replace my expensive T5 which is now in the garbage can. This Alexa thermostat works great and requires no skill to be added (direct integration to Alexa instead). Hopefully, even though this is Honeywell on the hardware, it will not ever have this problem. OR, if it does, at least there's only one vendor to talk to who can't point fingers at a different one. Thanks a lot for your video - it is what led me to buy the Amazon thermostat. You should get a commission!
    Oh, and this addition to my comment about 10 minutes after my first comment: I just installed the Amazon Thermostat. The mounting block with the wiring pins was identical to the T5. All I did was power off the thermostat at the breaker, pull the T5 off and into the trash can conveniently nearby, and put the Amazon Thermostat on the original T5 mounting block and then went through the Alexa software setup. Had it all working in under 5 minutes! It has taken me longer to screw in a smart light and get it working. This was Amazon-azing! Thanks again.

    Honeywell T9 is still the best one please go with that as a owner of the Alexa Amazon and former owner of t9 unit I can tell you the t9 one is far superior and you can use it 100% controls from the unit as well as from the app it is just a way more complete system and on top of that you have dedicated sensors if you so choose for rooms with another slew of features. The whole reason this unit is only 60 bucks is because it quite literally is half baked. For crying out loud you can’t even set it up without having a Wi-Fi connection and your phone in your hand what if your Internet goes out? You’re SOL the other one is a full on systems

    What is the tightest you can set heat from cool? 75 cool 74 heat?

    • @lengeljeff
      @lengeljeff Рік тому +1

      Not recommended as it Will constantly fight with each other. Say its 30F out side and you have it set to do what you described. It heats to 74, let’s say you are cooking and extra heat is going into the house. Now its 75 and the ac turns on. Then it goes below 74 and the heat turns back on. And it continues. It’s recommended to keep them at least 4 degrees apart. However some buildings and hospitals may keep it a closer number in places where a certain temperature is needed.
