I diagnosed myself with AKU back in 2007 when I had an L5-S1 fusion. Since then, both knees replaced, right shoulder replaced, and complete surgical fusionwhich took two different surgeries. The pictures I have acquired over the years are quite impressive.
Thankyou yet again! These Zebra topics might be rare clinically but they really help for mcqs!

Why does it say year of the zebra??
Zebras are rare disorders. Doctors are often told 'if you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras'. Those Doctors rarely hear the rejoinder 'please remember that zebras aren't unicorns, and likewise, make sure you aren't in an African savanna or a zoo before dismissing zebras as a possibility'
The idea is that symptoms usually have really common issues. Ie, a cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, low grade fever, and normal o2 levels is probably someone with a normal upper respiratory infection. (Horse)
But it can also be symptoms of pneumonia in someone who is physically fit, has been hyperventilating, or has increased lung capacity...or who has been on supplemental oxygen. (Slightly less common, but still a horse)
It can also be a super rare genetic condition, caused by something in the blood not working right like sickle cell, plus a mild cold (zebra)
One presumes that 'year of the zebra" refers to discussions of rare disorders on this channel (for a whole year of content) and how to distinguish them from the 'horses' Doctors are trained to look for.
It should also be stated that 'zebras' can refer to folks with chronic, but rare issues. I am a zebra myself, with several long term issues that are uncommon enough that it has taken decades sometimes to nail down what is wrong. And worse, because zebra issues are rare, therapy, medication or cures are almost never available, let alone being worked on.
Best explanation I ever had😮
