  • Blue Crabs, In this video we'll be setting our Blue Crab Traps [ Pots ] in the St. Johns River, Florida. The crabbing hasn't been that good so we were surprised to have a decent catch of Blue Crabs that day. After loading the boat and getting back home we Cooked the Crabs and had a Blue Crab boil for two. Catch and Cook #crabbinginthestjohnsriver #bluecrabsstjohnsriver #catchingbluecrabs #StJohnsRiverCrabbing

    Great video. I caught 6 rusty belly blue crabs last weekend at Fort DeSoto. I love doing a full pot cooked with all the sides at the same time. We also put in a sliced kielbasa with ours.

      Vanessa, every time we have Blue Crabs I pick a pile of meat and mix it with some mayonnaise and put it on one of Joyce's homemade rolls or bread, you can't beat it..

      Thank you very much. If you live near the water ask around where people crab and get some ring type traps and give it a try. Hope you get some crabs one way or another. Thanks again for Watching

      You will, especially crabbing it's easy you don't need a big boat the crab pots last a long time and most of the time you don't use very much gas. Thanks a lot for Watching

    Nice video as always. One thing I noticed is that at the end of the video, when you dumped the crabs out on the plate, the one crab was still a little green on top. That tells me that it isn’t cooked all the way. At least that’s what happened to me. Only when the shell is completely red are they done. Keep up with these videos. I enjoy them very much!

      Thanks Bernie, I'll have to look at that, it was probably a shadow or something going on with the video. We always boil or steam our crabs for at least 10 minutes. But I'm going to check it out. Thanks a lot for Watching

      No, thank you for making those videos. I’m an avid crabber myself, but haven’t crabbed for a long time. I had a commercial crabbers license years ago and crabbed the Chesapeake bay and it’s rivers. I used drop nets at first, but then went to trot lines because I could catch more crabs and quicker too. I turned to only fishing because crabbing was so poor. I stopped crabbing, but never stopped eating them. My wife and I moved to SW Florida and have a place on the canal. Crabbing here seems to be very good! I own a nice center console that I take out in the Gulf to fish. I decided I want to crab again, so I bought a used 14’ aluminum skiff for $200 and will use drop nets on floats to start crabbing again. Wish me luck and when I get her in the water, I’ll let you know how I’m doing. Good luck on St John’s river!

    If you don't mind me asking. Do you guys live near Fleming Island. I've been wanting to get my boy out and to try. We don't have a boat. We only go to areas and drop off docks @ Drs. Inlet.

      No we don't we set our crab traps south of there just past Palatka. I think Fleming Island area should have some good crabbing. Thanks a lot for Watching

    What's the difference between salt water and fresh water crabs?

    • @TheOldCoupleOutdoors
      @TheOldCoupleOutdoors  2 роки тому

      Blue crabs, no difference except males prefer brackish to almost fresh water and females prefer salt water. Thanks a lot for Watching.

    Do you ever put the crabs on ice? I’ve seen this done in other videos.

    • @TheOldCoupleOutdoors
      @TheOldCoupleOutdoors  2 роки тому

      Sometimes but most of the time just wet burlap or towel, you have to be careful with ice if it melts they'll drown.

    I just found ur channel why do u put ur traps so deep. We set ours 5 to 8 foot maybe October 8 to 12 feet deep

    • @TheOldCoupleOutdoors

      Some places, like at Suwannee we set them shallow but in the St John's River we found the largest ones are in about 18 feet, we had some yesterday that were about 8 inches point to point we never caught any that size in shallow water at the area we crab just higher numbers. Thanks a lot for Watching
