I love that quote so much. "We are not determined by our experiences, but the meaning we give them is self determining" -Alfred Adler

My wife and I went to Barnes and Noble yesterday and I had it in my mind to find a book called The Courage to be Disliked by Ichiro Kishimi and Fumitake Koga. Luckily I grabbed the last copy they had. I am obsessed with the premise of the book and was introduced to Adlerian Psychology. I feel this will be the catalyst I need in my life to become a more positive and goal oriented human being.

Adler's theories & practical-minded outlook is incredibly refreshing. His concepts of lifestyle and the 'personal philosophy' is so grounded - shame he's not more widely appreciated!

Absolutely! He’s been widely neglected and only reached more popularity through the book “The Courage to be Disliked”. His approach is so down-to-earth and easy to understand. I wish more people knew about him - hence why I make the videos :)

Hah yes I did the same - the audio book and listening to it again now. I don't know about any other psychologies but this one just seems to work, to set one up for a good life - I wanted to understand why he never achieved the popularity of his contemporaries - was it a weakness in his ideas or his ability to spread them?

I recently read 'the courage to be disliked' which I really enjoyed and chimes with my worldview and purports represent adlerian psychology. Two questions 1. does it? and 2. What are the main shortcomings or criticisms of Adler - why isn't this thinking more widely adopted compared to his contemporaries?

'Adlerianism' has really helped me!! especially the 'precious' concept of how we hold concepts in . . .

    3 muskeeters:
    Freud: Psychological physiological needs
    Adler: self esteem needs
    Jung: spiritual needs
Combined all tgther: pyramid of Maslow, freud’s on 1-3 tier, adler’s on 3-4 tier and jung’s on the top tier
In a legend of Troy when Paris only gave a golden apple to aphrodite not to hera and athena, this will create conflicts internally…
