Full screen disk management and look for the storage size of your external drive. Apparently, my Hard drive was named "Disk 0 (or 1) Partition" and I followed the steps in the video from there.

you'll have to wipe it right click on the drive and delete volume and then right click on it again and create a simple volume it will fix it and let you chose a letter to assign to it
so to those of you who had same problem as me. My drive details didn't show up on the list at the top, but I saw at the bottom listed as unallocated. I left clicked on that and clicked create new volume. I left the same size which will be default, I changed the drive to L: ( you can change to any you want). It had format as well checked in it, which I left on to format, but you can uncheck as well. After all that it reappeared, hope this helps have a nice day!

so i "had" a giant stack of hhd's that wouldn't even show up in windows diskpart. been collecting for years. I just couldn't bring myself to throw them out. just recently I started messing with Linux again, open suse distro. yesterday I was bored and started throwing in these old broken hhd's to see if any of them came back and its amazing, more than half of them are fine now. windows wouldn't even recognize they were connected but linux allowed be to completely clean and re format them. I've tried two of them on my windows rig and they're fine now. they show up and work. im going to go through the rest and see what happens but I'm just amazed right now. windows really does suck, all the pc nerds aren't just saying that for no reason.

Had all auto play settings set up to "ask me first". Yet it would still not recognise the external hard drive. Even have a converter to access the data. The same USB port recognized a Sandisk right away. Yes, did set up the external drive to ask me first. Hope can still get data on the external hard drive transferred and safe as it is a lot of cherished memories?
