You're the best! Using 3 cam's to do educational video and couldn't for the life of me figure out how to make a master sound track- Thank you thank you!
Fantastic! But how can I adjust timing of the Takes for synchronizing? They seem to be locked together time-wise. I'm using Movie Studio Platinum 12. The only solution I can see is to edit & render each clip after trimming them for sync, then bring them back in as Takes. But will that reduce quality? EDIT! >> I have just read your article. I believe I can make sub-clips to solve the issue. Hooray!
That can be done in Vegas Pro and latest versions of Vegas Movie Studio Platinum. However, your videos have to come from a good enough camera (professional grade) that supports Timecode, which is used to do the syncing process. If all videos have the same Audio Track, you can use the audio to sync videos as an alternate method, but once again you will need one of the newer versions of Vegas Pro or Vegas Movie Studio Platinum to do this! I personally use Plural Eyes from Red Giant Software to sync all my multi-track videos - Plural Eyes works with Vegas as an Extension. I don't have a tutorial on this topic, however the Vegas Help File does explain how to sync video.
if afterwards you want to change the cam used for a shot. click right and choose TAKE and select the cam #, the shot will be replaced with the shot from the selected cam... this all works in Movie Studio 12 platinum too.
Derek - what if I want to color correct before doing this? Is that possible to have my 2 camera shots on two different tracks, then do the color correct or does it have to start at where you did and it cannot be done?
Great multi-cam tutorial Derek. What kind of computer CPU, Ram do you have. I have a 6 core AMD with 16 GB Ram however my system and Sony Vegas won't play multiple stream simultaneously to do multi-cam editing for some reason. Thank you so much.
Most computers will struggle to do this, especially if the all the videos are located on the SAME Hard Drive and the Hard Drive is a slower spinning model. There are two things you can do: 1. Reduce the Preview Window = Preview or Draft quality 2. Turn on Proxy Videos for multi-cam videos Go to Project Media tab and find your multi-cam videos. Highlight them, right-click and select Create Video Proxy. Easy to play versions will be rendered just for the editing process - Vegas will automatically use them.
Holy shit this is awesome! This wil savealot of time! Quesiton though. What if I want to save the preview with all4 videos? Like saving a new file where all 4 are one in each corner? Normally this is a pain to do by adding 4 tracks then changing the x and y etc to put all 4 together.
No you cannot render the Multi-Cam workspace, but you can use the Track Motion window to create "normal" picture in picture FX. Read/watch this tutorial: www.moviestudiozen.com/free-tutorials/sony-vegas-pro/546-multi-screen-video-fx-sony-vegas-pro
No it does not automatically sync video - this is a limitation of this method. However, I did explain an alternate method in the written tutorial here: www.moviestudiozen.com/free-tutorials/sony-movie-studio-platinum/580-edit-multi-cam-video-movie-studio-platinum
I'm sorry maybe it's because im sleepy but i dont understand the purpose of the technique..could I not have just used the 4 different clips, placed each in on the timeline, and then put in my own cross fades?
Ok. So I downloaded the trial version of Movie Studio 14 Suite without any issues. I got the serial number for trial via email, installed it and a note popped up saying that an updated version needed to be downloaded in order to get 4k. That surprised me as I thought 4k was pretty much standard these days. Anyway, I downloaded it and had to uninstall the earlier version before the new installation would begin. I clicked install and it asked for a new serial number as if I were making a purchase. Let it be a warning to people using the trial. No 4k on the current trial download (21 Feb 2017) and I couldn't figure out how to get the updated 4k version without paying. Finally, I was hoping this version would have motion tracking as other similarly priced editors include this as a standard.
Just ignore that stupid message that pops up - it means nothing and has confused many people today. You DO NOT need to download an update - this is wrong. You DO NOT have to un-install anything before installing the new Version 14. Build 105 is the current version and DOES support 4K video editing.

Thanks Chris 😀👍

Yes. Sub-clips saves re-rendering.
UNBELIEVABLE !!! How did you ever come across this fantastic technique ???
Thank you for sharing this Derek.
I member on Movie Studio Zen showed this to me.

Great video!
:)
This is amazing! I need to try this soon.
Great Video. Thanks to you I am already using Vegas Pro but still, this is a really a nice little trick.
What about pre-syncronizing master takes?
That can be done in Vegas Pro and latest versions of Vegas Movie Studio Platinum.

excelente explicação
I tried on sony vegas 12.0, while I run and stop this video, and believe it is possible on my 12.0, thanks and bless you
Awesome, clear, and concise! Thank you!!
:)
Wow ! great hidden feature.
Very interesting.
Great video!! But how can I synchronize the audio of the videos? is there any way to do this?
Which exact version of Vegas are you using ?
Derek - what if I want to color correct before doing this? Is that possible to have my 2 camera shots on two different tracks, then do the color correct or does it have to start at where you did and it cannot be done?
You can do your Colour Correction at any time.

does doing this sync the video by time it was recorded?

However, I did explain an alternate method in the written tutorial here:
www.moviestudiozen.com/free-tutorials/sony-movie-studio-platinum/580-edit-multi-cam-video-movie-studio-platinum
will you be doing videos on Movie studio 14 now that its out?
Yes!
awesome! i just got it, so hopefully you can make some videos on it soon, looking forward to it
I'm sorry maybe it's because im sleepy but i dont understand the purpose of the technique..could I not have just used the 4 different clips, placed each in on the timeline, and then put in my own cross fades?
Yes you could do it manually. The whole idea on Multi-cam editing in the Preview window, is to make it faster and easier.

I forgot to say, thanks!
can you cut some things in your video in movie platinum 13 pro
Of course you can cut video - that is the most basic function!
Press "S" for split.
Just got this free. Aparently there's a temporary shareware giveaway for this software.
