This is definitely going to help with bluring out speedometers and faces :) Thanks!! You've single-handedly taught me how to use Sony Movie Studio 13 Platinum.
I just ordered my copy of this program and this video is EXACTLY what I have been looking for! Your instructions are very easy to follow and I can't wait to put this to use. Thanks a lot Dex!!!
This was sooo helpful thank you very much. I didn't watch the whole video..but as soon as you explained the cookie cutter part and copying the footage twice..I got it. Thanks so much again!
In newer versions of Movie Studio you press the "little clocks" next to each setting. This will turn on the Animation "keyframe" timeline for each control.
Thank you for this. I've been working with Sony Vegas Pro for a few years now, but I always seem to learn something new all the time. Great tutorial. :)
this video is so nice! you got straight to the point and the content is very helpful! :D i've been looking for a good tutorial on this for ages, thank you!!
Thanks for this handy tutorial mate! I do a lot of transport videos where its in a public location. However I try not to get anyone's face in my videos as I respect privacy, but sometimes its hard to avoid this in busy places like terminal stations etc. But thanks to your tutorial, I can just blur them out off my footage and my videos should be better now in the future.
Thank you once again sooooo much! I wish Sony would hire you in making their excuse of a help section much better! Your videos are brilliant and explaining Vegas 11! Cheers
Never Mind ;) I don't know what it was but I restarted it and now it's okay again. And all your videos are very good, without you I couldn't be so far in so little time :D
I can't thank you enough for this tutorial! I'm using version 12 but was able to follow the tutorial with only a few differences (which I somehow figured out) I really needed to learn this technique tonight so thank-you again for making such easy to follow videos - I'll be returning here for sure :)
to find the animate, go to the very bottom of the pop up screen. sometimes it's labeled animate. sometimes it's just a grey box. either way, click it and that opens up the animate feature.
Helped a lot bro, i wasnt using color blur at all but i could apply these rules to what i was doing, plus the keyframing thing was a bonus, good shit man.
Hey there! This is a great tutorial and it works just fine... BUT problem when exporting! I use the same program as you (Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11) and I followed your tutorial step by step, and I managed to do everything, and it works when I play the video on the interface = you see the blur. However, whenever I try to SAVE this as a video on my desktop (make a movie), the blur is barely noticeable, almost not there = therefore useless. Why is that?? Do you have a solution? :(
You've proven to be a huge help multiple times! Thanks a ton! Feel free to watch one of my vlogs and send a message with notes on where I can improve...if you wouldn't mind of course. Thanks either way!
Thanks! I am going to do a cosplay (when you dress to look like a certain character) video, but I couldn't show my face! This is going to help me while still allowing me to show a bit of the top of my cosplay, too! I'll be sure to watch your other videos!
Great vid Dex! I always learn something new from your vids! I noticed in your effects box pan/crop is part of the chain. I am guessing you are using platinum 11 in this video. I use platinum 10. Sometimes I wonder if I could place an fx before or after the pan/crop in the chain. Is that possible in platinum 10? Particularly with some transitions this can be a problem because the transition goes across the whole screen not just the area that has been pan or crop.
Very helpful, thanks. It's been a while since I edited a vid and was staring at the screen wondering what to do after all this time lol. One question, you may have a vid on this you can point me to. How do I change the resolution (pixel dimensions) of the video after I've started editing? At the moment I have it at 950x540 which is great for my game vids but it seems to be the default. I would like to up it to 1280 or something, but I don't just want to zoom in. Thanks so much.
***** Yep that 960x540 (sorry, I said 950) is the default for my game vids. That's the size recorded in Fraps (1/2 the size of my monitor) so I keep them at original res. This particular recording however (not a game one) didn't bring up any size options when I dragged it into the Vegas window, so I wasn't alerted to changing it. I realised a little way in that because the recording is very widescreen, it's smaller than should be. Thanks so much for your help and time, I'll nab these suggestions and go through it in the prog. Hope you don't mind if I pop back with more questions if I have trouble :)
THANK YOUUU sooo much. I was really struggling with this, yea I was, saw couple of other tutorials ,just didn't get it, u made it crystal clear...thanks a bunch keep it up :)
there seems to be a problem now, after I animate and create keyframes , it takes a long time.i close it like you did when I play the video ,bam its in dead centre of the screen, nothing happens,it dosent animate..it dosent move around, am I doing something wrong, plz help..
***** it worked! thank you soo much for your help..i pressed the little clocks for centre and size as well, while before I would only press the most bottom one that is stereoscopic 3d depth..
Thanks Derek that's gonna be a great help I also use the copy and overwrite function which works a treat as long as you cut at zero crossing points and find a bit of audio that matches roughly, I used to use Sound forge a lot as a amateur sound engineer so once your help got my gray matter working I was fine lol,Great Vids helping me a lot getting to grips with Movie Studio
Thanks for the tutorial! I have a problem though. I'm trying to blur out a text - I select the area and blur it, but in the preview the blur is always going to the right. It would leave half the word not-blurred and blur the other half plus a part of the word next to it. Can anyone help me solve this? Thanks.
I searched and searched for a way to do some masking/blur with Vegas Movie Studio HD 11 and couldn't find anything. Then I ran into your video... Thank you!
@TemporalParadox1 hello. will your tutorials for platinum 11 work for platinum 11 production suite because i think thats the one im getting. i guess what im asking is, is platinum 11 and platinum 11 production suite vary different?.
When I open cookie cutter, I don't have that box that you move the small square Icon... I have everything else though... so how do I get that in order to be able to move the area that I want to blur??
What if I want to blur out more than one person? Would I just create another video track and repeat the process or is there a more simple/faster way of doing it one that same video track?
hi there I've been using Sony Vegas Movie Studio 11 for about 2 years your videos on your channel have helped me a lot on how to green screen and how to blur out someone's face your videos have really helped me learn how to use Sony Vegas thanks for that not too many videos go much into detail like your videos to learn how to use Sony Vegas there is one little concern though I wanted to ask you about I have been noticing that my Sony Vegas Movie Studio 11 has been acting up normally when I start a project I give it a file name and I save it throughout the project I am saving my video project at the same time while I'm editing it my problem is that Sony Vegas is not responding I've been noticing over the last 24 hours that my Sony Vegas has really been acting up every time I go to open Sony Vegas to open my project to start where I left off to load the project takes about 3 seconds and Sony Vegas crashes it says its not responding in this happened so many times in a row I ran my mail where bites cleaned up my computer a little bit and I uninstalled and reinstalled Sony Vegas twice and I still notice that its acting up I looked at some other UA-cam videos on how to fix the not responding error message everytime I open Sony Vegas and load the project and there are a lot of people that are having this problem and really I have not found a good enough video to correct the problem I see you really know how to use Sony Vegas very well and that's why I decided to ask you this question I really would like to know if there is a way to fix this problem for me to get in contact with Sony well I think their life chat might be a bunch of ball what I mean is it might cost me money and I can afford it right now they mainly wanted to Sony Vegas because I like to work with green screen chroma key and I've never had a problem with Sony Vegas Movie Studio before once in awhile it would crash but normally I can get right back into my project and recover it so that's my concern right now if you have a video or make a video and how to fix the rendering error message please forward it to me I really would appreciate so thanks?
I've got a question! I've got Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 and I want to know how masking works. Because I'dont know how to do that >.< So please help me out
Hi the cookie cutter effect is being applied to both video lines, I am using version 12. "Media offline: is appearing in the timeline, any ideas ? Thanks for this great video.
***** Thanks I fixed it. One other question, say I have a file with these characteristics below. I still come back to your videos whenever I need a refresher course. You make the best tutorials on YT.

Did you manage to blur more than one persons face?
Yes I did thanks :). Works a treat when you don't want someone in your video unintentionally.
Very useful, learnt a new skill today thanks to you, ta!
Thank you once again sooooo much! I wish Sony would hire you in making their excuse of a help section much better! Your videos are brilliant and explaining Vegas 11! Cheers

Using MSP 12 here, your tutorial works great! Thanks a bunch!
Thanks for the video! Looking into options to edit video as a motovlogger and this helps a lot.
Brilliant stuff. Thanks for this tutorial , very helpful :)
Great video man. I got it on the first try thanks to you!
to find the animate, go to the very bottom of the pop up screen. sometimes it's labeled animate. sometimes it's just a grey box. either way, click it and that opens up the animate feature.
Thank you! This was extremely helpful. Needed to blur a face on my actor's reel.

Hi, Is it possible to blur out the background or do I need a more advance camera to do this?
Thanks Derek that's gonna be a great help I also use the copy and overwrite function which works a treat as long as you cut at zero crossing points and find a bit of audio that matches roughly, I used to use Sound forge a lot as a amateur sound engineer so once your help got my gray matter working I was fine lol,Great Vids helping me a lot getting to grips with Movie Studio
in the intro, can you do a video that shows how you did that wave effect thanks, you have good videos and there all easy to follow, thanks

That linear blur, is that not pixelated, but a regular blur that looks like the Blur tool on Photoshop? I'm looking for something like that. :)
Oh, I just read the answer you gave to someone else and I think I see what to do now. Thankyou Movie Studio Zen.

@DanielTheIpodKid i does not matter as long as you keep the pixelate effect applied to their face you should be fine.
I'm just messing around. I meant in this, but that's obviously stupid. This was actually a lot of help. Thank you :)
Really thanks mate!
Oh so could you explain to me what the Chroma Key is? Because I just got my program yesterday and I just want to know what all that is
I've got a question! I've got Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 and I want to know how masking works. Because I'dont know how to do that >.< So please help me out
Thank you so much kind sir!
Does this work with putting an image of a person's face over another person's face in a video for comedic effect? What is this called anyways?
Is it possible to blur multiple faces or objects using this method?
What would you do if you wanted to mask something out completely? For example, if I wanted to mask out someone's head, and I notepad
you have some very helpful videos

I see all the options for savng to my computer in various filetypes, but if I go for 1080p for instance, I can get a huge 35gig file. I just want it to be as good as possible for the smallest size. Thanks again for great channel.

i have a problem and looking at the comments i believe i'm not the only one with this. i got movie studio platinum 12 suite after seeing it on your channel and i really like it. but when i go to the cookie cutter there is no animate button. is there a way to blur out moving faces in platinum 12 or is it simply not possible? please help me/us, if its more complex with this version maybe you could do another tutorial?
Hey man, i am having a small problem, I followed your steps and it looks great on my video, now when I render it, the video loses the pixilation almost completely on that part, how do I get the final product to look like the preview where the pixilation/blur looks good? thanks!
Ok that makes sense, Thanks so much!
Your awesome!! thanks for the help, im gonna subbscribe!!
Thanks very much!!
best and easiest method out there
