Hi, i was born in Masyaf and the generation of my grandfather is last generation, which born in this Castle, it like our grandpa's house, i have spent a lot of time in every corner of this Castle, it was like a journey to me, took me to world i can feel it, but not touch it , that was loong time ago.

All assassin's Creed characters are just fictional. But the Templars and Assassins were exist. It takes place during the Third Crusades.

Dr. Khalil, I greatly enjoyed this video of the history of Al Masyaf Castle and the assasins which once ruled over it.
Among the many wonderful aspects, I probably enjoyed most your narration of the story of the assasins. Your script used colorful language while remaining true to historical events. Your voice was clear, pleasant, and pulled the listener in. Your passion for the subject was made obvious by your speech and by your body language.
Furthermore, the visuals were stunning. The camera and drone were well utilized to display the grandeur of the castle and the details of its design.
I also enjoyed the dramatic flair of reenactment portrayed by the actors, in full period attire.
The editing of visuals helped maintain the attention of a modern viewer while the soundtrack matched the mood and intensity of the story as it progressed. The soundtrack could easily be enjoyed separately on its own.
My only critiques relate to the difference in sound quality once you begin speaking directly to the camera. However, I recognize the difficulty with the task of matching that vocal sound to the dubbed one. Finally, as you walk toward the camera, the sound from your feet distracted me a little. It's a minor detail that detracts a little from the otherwise high quality production.
Overall, I loved it. If you haven't yet done so, I suggest you create and add this work to a playlist entitled something similar to "Syrian Archeological and Historical Treasures".
My final suggestion is to list sources for your knowledge in the end credits. I believe these minor adjustments would create a fully professional body of work worthy of "National Geographic" or "History" Channels.
I believe all Syrians should be proud.

Its sad really when one sees this video and realises how much besides this syria is home to enormous amount of historical treasures that are unknown and hidden to the outside world. Very impressive video anyhow, i enjoyed playing ac1 during my childhood but never reflected about its history and where it takes place.

You are exactly right, and this is the reason that made me call my series of documentaries about Syria's castles. "Syrian Treasures." The Castle of Masyaf and the history of the secret Order of the Assassins are absolutely fascinating to me. This is why I flew all the way from Boston to Masyaf to film a documentary about it. What is even more fascinating is the history of the Christian Order of the Knights Hospitaller that built Syria's Margat Castle, Krak de Chevaliers, and the Chastel Blanc. Assassin's Creed aside, this is a great video, I have not seen to many people discuss the actual locations from the series such as the Hashashin fortresses. Masyaf is fascinating and you really brought it to life. Would love to visit it someday.
Just one quick correction, Krak de Chevalier was a Knight's Hospitaller Stronghold, not a Templar one.
Javier: thank you for your comment and kind words! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. In response to your proposed correction, the Templars had a solid presence in this region. In fact, nearby Chastel Blanc, locally known as Burj Safita, or the Tower of Safita, was built by the Templars. Additionally, the Templars and the Hospitallers fought side by side, and they even outnumbered the Hospitallers. Therefore, the region, including Krak, was, indeed, a Templar stronghold. However, if you mean that the Hospitallers built Krak, then yes, that is only partially true. The original structure was built by a Kurdish offshoot of the Arab Mirdasid Dynasty. Later, the Hospitallers re-fortified it-giving Krak its current structure.

Very fascinating! I didn't know that the AC took the lore of actual assassins until I read somewhere that the game was based off a book.
But to actually see Masyaf (via internet, of course) and hear a fraction of it's history...wow.
I certainly wouldn't mind going there and seeing it in person.
The Order of the Assassins or Hashasheen has deep roots in what is now modern-day Syria and Iran. The Castle of Masyaf is truly an architecturally amazing structure -- deeply founded in the rocks of the Mountains of Western Syria. When I was there, I was amazed by how well built the castle was. It was a plus that the people of Masyaf were friendly and welcoming. I hope you will be able to visit one day, and I am happy to share some tips with you if you'd like. Yes! Alamut Castle was actually the first headquarters of the Order of the Assassins. However, it is nothing but ruins today, unfortunately.

Most informative. The main Persian base of 'Order of Assassin's' base at Alamut Castle in Persia (Iran), also Masyaf Castle (Syria). Apparently both founded by Persian 'Hasan-i Sabbah' in 1090. Alamut and Lambsar Castles, became the foundation of a network of 'Isma'ilism' fortresses throughout Persia and Syria, that formed the locations basis of the 'Order of Assassin's' power (including: Syrian strongholds at Masyaf, Abu Qubays, al-Qadmus and al-Kahf. Operating for almost 300 years, from 1090 until 1275 BCE. During that time, they lived in the mountains of Persia and in Syria, and held/operated a strict subterfuge policy throughout the Middle East, through the covert murder of Muslim and Christian leaders who were considered enemies of the 'Isma'ili' state. the 'Isma'ili' State was eventually destroyed after the Mongol invasion of Persia and by 1275, the Mongols had fully destroyed and eliminated the 'Order of Assassins'. Yes, the origin of the Assassins Order started in what is now modern-day Iran. The order was led by Hassan Al-Sabbah in Alamut Castle, which is now in ruins, unfortunately. Hi, Leigh! Thank you for your comment. You could argue that; however, the first recorded assassination style of covert operations was done by the Hashashin, not by the Trojans. It is, of course, natural to expect stealth to be a part of any kind of warfare. The Order of the Assassins was the first one to embrace an assassination-style of covert operations in history, though, and they had a good reason for it: They were heavily outnumbered, so the decapitation of their enemies’ leaders was their way to prevail.
