I hate to be negative, but extractor spring problems after 500 rounds? I find that hard to believe. You spend $2000 to $3000 dollars on a MP5 clone or HK SP5, and your extractor spring has problems at only 500 rounds? That's nuts! I have read other comments that say those extractor springs have lasted for thousands of rounds. I find about 5000 rounds more believable.
Have thousands of brass cased rounds, both semi and full auto through factory HK 94s and SP5/SP5Ks with HK factory magazines and never had issues. I check the spring every time I clean the guns (I clean every few hundred rounds) and it takes a long while to wear the springs out, more than 500 rounds for sure in my guns anyway. HOWEVER, if you shoot clones or home builds that have failures to feed or failures to eject, even one jam can flex the extractor up enough to ruin the spring right then and there. So always check your spring after you have a jam. Another reason to use quality magazines and ammo as well. The MP5 is still in use around the world because with decent Ammo a real MP5 with real HK mags is very reliable. You can also always install a G3 rifle extractor spring which has more tension than the Mp5 springs.
I have 16,000 rounds of nearly all factory 124 gr through my PTR MP5 clone shooting either USPSA and Steel Challenge matches two weekends a month with NO extraction or ejection problems and still running the original bolt, extractor and spring. Bought it new in September 2020.
In my experience this is NOT the case and have shot subgun matches with the same mp5 for years and have not changed mine during any match and I dont have these issues. I have maybe gone through 2 springs including the one in my gun now. I think your build and or aftermarket spring, ammo, or maintenance and or installation techniques might be a better place to start looking for a cause. If you experience ftf or fte then replace. There are noted ranges that put many many many thousands of rounds down range without issue b4 changing but they clean thier guns and use factory ammo.
"Per HK" , manufacturers always put low round counts to dismiss liabilities on firearm repairs similar to the automotive industry. You have to understand its continues business for them. If a military replaces them after every range trip or 2 that HK laughing all the way to the bank after selling a big ass bag of springs to client militaries for inflated prices. I wanna say colt stay at odds with the DOD for continually exaggerating M4 wear and tear to get more money.
MP5's are a HIGHLY reliable platform much more than what Richard here makes them out to be. Problem is he sells Uzi stuff and is an Uzi guy so his bias is HUGE!!! Richard was an AMAZING guy and is /will be GREATLY missed. He was a man full of great knowledge and was one of the good guys. Love to his friends and family.
Thank you, my Zenith Z5-rs ran into this issue yesterday and was jamming like crazy. First video on mp5 jamming was yours and lo & behold, my extractor was flopping as you showed. You were also on the money about 500 rounds because I'm at that mark too. Will reach out to Zenith to see if they'll send me the spring.
Hate coming here to ask a troubleshooting question, but your channel is the first place I search when I look for gun maintenance tips. I'm kinda new to the mp5 platform, I recently bought and sbr'd my sp5k (not a clone). I shoot suppressed almost exclusively, so everything I read said I should use the 80 degree locking piece, so I bought the HK proper part. My bolt gap is .018 but I'm experiencing extractor failures, almost like there isn't enough back pressure to fully eject the case while trying to feed the next. I was using Federal 150gr and it was very consistent. Could you suggest some tips on what to do to get it running heavy loads? I imagine I need to replace the extractor spring due to the sensitivity of it.
I wouldn’t take this guys advice if I were you. He lost all credibility as soon as he said extractors need to be changed every 500 rounds. 😂 Look up videos by Teufelshund Tactical or this guy in the link below. Those guys actually KNOW wtf their talking about. ua-cam.com/video/-_3_4AvMk0U/v-deo.html
Moored Advanced Dynamics already created a bolt that fixes it (heres the link: madkc.com/) but your extractor will last MUCH longer than 500 rounds before it needs to be replaced.
Hi Richard hope you can answer my question I have a mp5 clone and it wants to double feed and leaves heavy flute marks on the case could this be the extractor or likely the timing it was new from century but appeared used its just been so long sending back is pointless it does it with all nags even hk and its worse with aluminum case ammo. Any thoughts thanks and sorry about your loss hang in there.
First, never use aluminum cased ammo in anything. You are not having a magazine or an extractor issue. There is a good chance your Century MP5 clone was not built correctly and is out of spec.
The flute Mark's are very normal. If you look into chamber theres a bunch of grooves that leave them tiger stripes . Someone should have told you this but tear her down and learn your tool.
By now, I think most are aware of the HK Contract FMP Rifle Extractor Springs that are available from HK Parts. I found out about em' when I actually went online to get some of the oem MP5 springs to have on hand. There ya' go. Semper Fi, Mac.....
@@BWEFirearms I have had my MACS for over 30 years. Put a lot of rounds through them. The only failures I have had are buffers on the M10/45’s and buffers, Two Sears and a trigger spring on my M11/9. I just installed a hardened sear on my M11/9, hope it stands up better then the original.
@@BWEFirearms This is because it uses the same sear as the M11/380 that uses a weaker round. The sears on the M10 are much Beefier. Both of my M11/9’s were 1986 guns so the sears were not properly heat treated in their rush to build the guns and get them registered before May 19 and the ban. I hope the new Lage sear I put in them lasts longer.
The remedy is the new silver spring which is a improvement from HK. Also replace the 3rd gen extractor lever. I guarentee it will run 2000 rounds without a replacement.
About 500 rounds is where I started having extraction issues, still helping ppl after he’s passed ❤️. Thank you
Me too
Rest in peace Richard. You are missed.
I added a MAD bolt head it’s been flawless and no more issues.
As reliable as anything top end now.

Spot on all the way around. These clones are what’s giving the bad performance. Either that or garbage ammo
nothing wrong with a MKE, least its less neutered than the lame @ss HK one yet cheaper cause it "dont gots da logo"
Sometimes the spring is to tight as wlikely why they reccomend the red army steel case to break in? Idk
@@jestonxi6391 my MKE didn't like HP rounds, besides that she ran flawless on ball ammo to include the break in recommended ammo.

The rifles have a heavier spring and I don't think they suffer from this problem as much or they just don't get as many rounds get put through them.
