Good break down! The groove is all about the dynamics and feel. If the ghost notes are too weak it won`t groove like it should and if they are too strong it won`t rock at all. Iconic intro.
I transcribed this myself..and surprisingly got it right. Just did a cover of this. So much fun to play! I wonder if he knew he was creating a long lasting favorite for us when he played this...killah!
I love the deep bass and the tight pop of the snare on the original track. I tried to achieve that sound, but just couldn't, especially live! The kids didn't care back then, it was a great tune to play live with the band - thanks for collectively writing it man! I Hope fame and fortune brought you everything you could have ever wished for! peace and love !
What a great demo, I now can’t wait to learn this one, although it’s probably a bit out of my league, with a guide like this I think I can learn it 🙌👊🎶🎵😎
Hey Kevin, thanks for your comment. Aaron still is a part of the band and they are very active and alive, playing gigs all over the place (at least in pre-pandemic times:) best!
sit down and play this, then you know it is not so easy at it themes, when the spin doctors comes to me in the 90s ,i must know the rythmmachine and i dont know that is was aaron, but then i want these notes, and have these till today, and play it loud to my son,he is also a drummer ,11 y old, smile
Yes I'm not using my real name I've known Aaron since he was in seventh and eighth grade he went to high school with my brother at arts magnet so did Edie Brickell from the new Bohemians Aaron grew up in my neighborhood over in Dallas Texas
Great video. I still love that tune and the drums are a huge part of that. Also, it would be awesome if you could get Guy Hoffman, formerly of BoDeans, to demonstrate the drum fill and the beat of She's a Runaway.
Hey Joe, thanks for asking. The song stays in 4/4 through the whole song. I assume you mean those hits on the "and´s" right before the drum breakdown. some people might get the impression that the beat turns around here but its just some hits on the off´s ;-) Happy new year!
This sounds simple. Sounds like the newest of drummers can pull it off. It’s not as simple as it sounds. These guys are gifted musicians. They make it sound easy which is part of the reason this song and that album will stand the test of time. It’s what they don’t play that makes it special.
As good as this is.... can we just acknowledge how f'n funky good 'shinbone alley/ hard to exist' is!?!?!?! I cant even guess how many times my neighbors heard me try to play that song
Not a drummer here , but I am more interested in how the drum parts came to be in the overall musical composition. What decisions were made and why? Why this pattern?
VERY nice.... been on repeat since it came out, JUST for that intro. But I must say.... the snare sound on the recording was the icing on the cake. What snare was that? Does anyone know?
Aaron says, "On “Two Princes,” I used a Brady Jarrah piccolo snare drum, and we recorded it in the power station (now avatar) in NYC. It was recorded to tape with a lot of compression and a great room sounds. I still am not sure how we got such a great sound that day but I can tell you that that drum will never sound as good as that again (laughs)." - www.theblackpage.net/interviews/aaron-comess
Это как там оно... "всемирно известная миллионерша! Жениться на ней - мечта моего детства!" - короче, прогреметь это интро - мечта всего, что движется, начиная аж прям с... чёрти там какого лохматого девяносто какого-то там года :))
Love the lesson. Love Aaron's work. But - you could do us all a favour by having a better mic set up. His speech is too quiet and thus the drums are way too loud. I'm constantly having to ride the volume up and down. Apart from that - great!
Honestly can't believe my luck searching for this and finding it laid out by the man himself. Thank you.
one of the most iconic snare fills and grooves ever!
Word!
Amen 🙏
thanks aaron, for sharing your iconic intro and groove. one of the best ever!
I’m gonna say Aaron Comess is one of the best drummers ever, not just the 90s. And the crack of that snare on ‘what time is it?’ Legend.
Drummers, get out and see this man live. He puts on a clinic every time he plays. He is a living legend.
Wow, to learn the song and fills from the person who performed them, amazing! Thanks for the lesson, I am now nailing the fills AND the beat! Awesome!
Good break down! The groove is all about the dynamics and feel. If the ghost notes are too weak it won`t groove like it should and if they are too strong it won`t rock at all. Iconic intro.
You know the song instantly by the intro. It's perfection.
I played this tune back on the day. One of my favorites on the set list.
Amazing pocket, killer intro and groove......so moving
yeah man all in one: chops, pocket & style!
LOVE it! Thanks man. One of the BEST recorded drum grooves of all time.
I love it. The most infectious groove ever. This song brings back so many memories.
I love it when you start playing and add more and more elements and complexity during play. Drums are one of the coolest instrument to do it with.
Thank you for this! I always thought his snare sounds like a rifle. Best breakdown of song by the owner!
Understated drummer right there.
Wow, awesome sound and rhythm
great feel on that fill. thanks!
Thank you sir. This was perfect. I enjoy hear you play drums.
I transcribed this myself..and surprisingly got it right.
Just did a cover of this. So much fun to play!
I wonder if he knew he was creating a long lasting favorite for us when he played this...killah!
yeah!
One of the most iconic drum intros of all time. Shame they couldn't stick a mic on Aaron, it's hard to hear him explain what he played.
So true. I turned up to hear him talk and the drums were SO LOUD lol
Wow!! You are the genius behind this fill.
yes he is!!!
Your timing is perfect. thanks again and all the best to you.
thanks for checking this out and all the nice comments ....

he recorded a brady jarrah kit is why you cant get the same sound....
good teacher
Nothing better then learning this tricky fill from the drummer himself
So cool! I love this song.
What a great demo, I now can’t wait to learn this one, although it’s probably a bit out of my league, with a guide like this I think I can learn it 🙌👊🎶🎵😎
Amo la intro y el groove de esta canción ❤
Man that’s awesome
He was the best part of the band. I always loved their cover of "Spanish Castle Magic"
Hey Kevin, thanks for your comment. Aaron still is a part of the band and they are very active and alive, playing gigs all over the place (at least in pre-pandemic times:) best!
Wonderful thx!
So Awesome! Thanks for recording this! I noticed that the snare that was used originally had a wooden hoop -- loved that snare sound!
I wonder if he knew he was creating a long lasting favorite for us when he played this...killah!
Just did a cover of this. So much fun to play!
Man, this groove is so iconic. Add those fills and that typical swing feel, and you're off.
Beauty !
Very underrated drummer. He has great chops and definitely a good pocket drummer
This is GOLD

fenomenal!
Legendary opening drum fill
Super ! Merc beaucoup 😊
For those of you who don't know it Aaron went to a art school and graduated from Dallas Texas
Great! Would also have been nice to hear how he came up with that beat.
Aaron is an awesome drummer
Yes yes yes!
no words needed
Aaron Comess is one of the grooviest drummers ever.
And totally underrated..He is one of my favorites. The guy is amazing.
Yes I'm not using my real name I've known Aaron since he was in seventh and eighth grade he went to high school with my brother at arts magnet so did Edie Brickell from the new Bohemians Aaron grew up in my neighborhood over in Dallas Texas
Way ahead of its time for sure. Always had trouble with those sneaky ghost notes. Tough for a ham fisted 2&4 guy like me.
Great video. I still love that tune and the drums are a huge part of that.
Also, it would be awesome if you could get Guy Hoffman, formerly of BoDeans, to demonstrate the drum fill and the beat of She's a Runaway.
That intro and fill
Awesome tutorial, thank you! Miss that crack of the high snare like in the recording though :(
Many have tried. Very few will ever truly nail it. Comess is such a great player. All class.
Love that he’s always played trad grip too.
What is the time signature on the rolls towards the end of the song just before the drum break down with the chorus lyrics
Hey Joe, thanks for asking. The song stays in 4/4 through the whole song. I assume you mean those hits on the "and´s" right before the drum breakdown. some people might get the impression that the beat turns around here but its just some hits on the off´s ;-) Happy new year!
@@drumtrainer yes! Thank you. I was getting frustrated with that one little part bc I felt couldn’t count it out properly in 4
Those ghost notes on the recording are killer.

Excellent! What is the ride used in that song? Sound amazing

Does anyone know which Sanre Drum he play with?
He didn't talk about it
Great video! I’d say that snare drum sound has dried up quite a bit since the 9o’s.
Finally a video from Aaron himself on that intro. Well done! But give that man a clip on mic or something to speak into next time.
thanks & good point! :) will do..
;-) you r soo right, sorry for that! we did that in between rehearsals very fast..
I'm using a disguise name but I went to middle school with Aaron he's been a good friend to my brother they went to the same high school
Clássica!

I'm not using my real name I know a lot about Aaron he grew up in my same neighborhood we've known each other since seventh and eighth grade
Wow, so play that snare close to the edge of the drum
Strong audio work here.

What a difference between the Brady kit and the Yamaha. Both great kits, but there is a reason he records with Bradys
He looks literally the exact same as he did in 1994.
WillyGarciaDrums no he looks like he did in high school and middle school to ha ha I'm from Dallas and I've known Aaron since middle school
One of the fattest grooves from the 90,s. This song and Would I lie to you by Charles and eddy stand out for their brilliant drum feel and sound
1:33
Great explanation...but still struggling with it.....it´s not that simple for me
Strong audio work here.

Drums are never too loud! Ask Brendan O,''brien
G r o o v e
...Did somebody forget to give him a mic?! I cant hear him at all compared to the drums!!!
Snare sounds dead
@Rachael Nelson dont get me wrong...i love his playing but that snare doesnt pop like the brady he used in the 90s
@@jayjohnson007 ok ok ;-) happy new year...
