  • A great deal on a Range Rover could turn out to be a bad deal for your family. My friend bought this very nice 2015 Range Rover Supercharged and within a week it decided that it was going to remain parked in his driveway forever.

Yeah from factory its a stud, they literally fall off eventually lol. The fix is to install a nutsert. Glad ya'll got it fixed! FWIW listening to it it sounds like it needs guides/tensioners. Doesn't sound great. If no timing codes it's the perfect time to perform the "Zip tie method" - which is just taking off the crank pulley, lower and upper timing covers, and replacing the guides/tensioners. No screwing with timing. 10-14.5 (2015MY) had guides with no steel pin where the tensioner would eat into the aluminium guide.

This reminds me when Auto Auction Rebuilds had the Kia Forte had some mysterious issue. When he and Monkey Wrench Mike decided to try several fixes they started with something the UA-cam comments suggested. The comments were right when they said to check the catalytic converters and it turned to be they were clogged.

Anytime you clean the ground points with a wire brush, as you did, spray it with a corrosion preventative (purple sticky stuff) like you use on your battery terminals or it will corrode again. Any ground point exposed to the elements should be sprsyed when doing maintenance. 😉

Without wading through all of the comments... :) Check the timing chains. It's sounding pretty noisy and the tensioners on these are known to fail. I have a 2013 that's still pretty quiet, but, I'm going to do them anyway. If you take off the oil fill cap, you can see the timing chain. Take a screw driver and push on it. There should be little to no slack. If there is, the tensioners are bad and will need to be replaced before it skips time. Cheers, mate.

Thanks for taking the time to properly diagnose & repair the problem, most American independent shops just dont seem to have the mental ability to do it, as simple as it is.. I think thats why so many European cars have such a bad rep in the states, its all down to the mentality of the shops.. For us Europeans, all this stuff is basic knowledge, but over there it seems that 80% of independents only learn the home manufacturers, with the basic, outdated tech... Theres a lot to be said for basic, old school engineering, but we`ve moved on now, & your diagnostic knowledge needs to keep up!

5:00 Absolutely right about the bling ring having nothing to do with the button, since the multiple proximity antennas are pretty common on modern keyless cars
One thing to note is that some vehicles (not sure if all do), but FCA ones in particular will have backup antennas at the button, so when the fob battery dies, you can start the car by touching the key to the button; the bling ring shouldn't affect that at least.

If you still have starting problems, I suggest checking the starter solenoid. Bad earths can cause poor solenoid activation which then causes arcing and contamination of the contactors.
The existence of a bad earth effecting starting can be checked by running a jump lead from the battery -ve terminal to the starter motor body or as close as you can get on the engine.

Had the same problem with my wife's Jazz. Suddenly started having intermittent starting problems. Suspected battery. Bought new one and charged old one off the car. New one was bad so I put old one back on to get back to shop. Went home with second new battery. When home I took off the battery earth strap...corrosion between bolt and body captive nut. Put it all back and tested battery resting and charging. Green observation light now back on old battery. No problems since.
Moral of story...check the earthing points first...even if they look good. If your battery isn't getting a full charge with the engine off it soon drops off cranking capacity if you load it with central locking or electric window operation etc

I’m a 30yr dealer Honda tech and that has and will cause a Honda to not start. The Start/Stop switch is an antenna for starting only. All the other antennas you talked about are for keyless entry only.

It sure isn't on this, I even posted proof that it's simply two wires to the BCM to command start. 🍻

Not technically true that the button is only a button on all cars. My Toyotas have the backup reader for the key as part of the start stop button that will read the key if the battery dies. Other cars like your ford have a place in the console to put the key for that purpose. Not sure if the bedazzle ring would effect my Toyota system but it could. Definitely not as bad as doing it on a chip key car. Though. Great video.

Might also want to think about putting some conductive grease on those grounds. "MIGHT" keep corrosion away a little longer that way?

Look for the differential and transfer case to fail… creaks are usually from one or the other…

On VW / Audi on start stop vehicles a new battery must be coded when replaced. You mentioned a battery was just replaced. I did not get through the entire video so if it was mentioned I apologize.

ok, but if you are at all concerned about the lighter burning the Camaro down, just unhook it from the power. Or, if you want it to work, have it powered on a hidden switch so you can use it when needed. I don't clock you or many you hang with as smokers, so unsure why you need a functional lighter.
