holy shit!!!! After 17 years i finally found out the name of the game that i used to play with my cousin every saturday/sunday!! Those were good times...
I literally just came here to say this. I was watching Isaac videos from NorthernLion and he mentioned this game. Talk about nostalgia...wow. I only remember up until half an hour in. Never did beat it
One of the most unforgettable shoot'em ups in history. I used to watch this with my older brother especially after school, PS. I still think that first boss is a ear tick.
So much so that it started as a glitch of sorts in the first game, but was deliberately added in in later installments and in competing game franchises as well.
When I was a kid playing this game, I thought the lag was purposely added so you could actually stand a chance in some of these insanely packed-with-bullets areas.....
+blow me If you want an intense scroller shooter, then check out "Summer Carnival '92: Recca" for the Famicom. That game is pretty damn intense, it is probably the closest that a Famicom game has come to bullet hell and it also uses a very interesting rave soundtrack, with lots of heavy bass and electonic-sounding effects.
Thanks! Ill take a look :) Love me some bullet hell. Surely youve heard of CUPHEAD coming out...? If not Id recommend to check it out... its a side scrolling bullet hell game styled like an old 1920's-30's cartoon. :)
to beat this game, you must have low stress, regular exercise, healthy organic eating, and 8 hours of sleep every night. You also must have much confidence, because if you have any fear or anxiety playing this, the game will sense it and utterly annihilate you.
@@ONIKdeftones To be fair it is a launch title so it is kind of expected at launch. At the very least the game is functional and playable despite the slowdown.
Really amazing run. More impressive than deathless, imho, because you had to fight back from no power-ups a few times at ridiculously late points in the game.
nah, a no death run in this game is practically impossible, it's a hell of a lot more impressive to never ever die because of the way this game is set up you can know where the enemies will spawn but they attack based on where you are and with so many different levels and attacks it's really really easy to fuck up it's rather easy to just use as many lives as it takes to complete the game, and a completely different story to only use one life or restart I think the furthest I have ever made it without dying was just past the mega boss rush
31:45 - That was rough, it sucks when the game locks the players into those loose-loose situations. But either than that this was a fantastic playthrough! You played very well and I'm really impressed to watch someone to complete Arcade mode pretty much effortlessly like that! I was able to be easy and normal regularly. Hard difficulty I only Beat It a single time and I only had two lives left! OoO ( did you know there's actually a hidden level? Play second and wait until you get to the section where the ships are coming out from above and below and after you've destroyed all of the enemy ships and there aren't any more bubbles flying around carefully maneuver the Vic Viper into one of the open areas of the bubbles whether it's above or below. Once you touch the bottom of the screen the game will freeze temporarily and then the ceiling and the ground will disintegrate and the music will change taking you to a completely different area where you can rack up your score extremely high and received power ups much faster compared to every other level in the game. After that you can pretty much skip over the rest of the second level and go straight into the third level. It's really tricky and it takes time to get it right but once you can pull it off it's a really neat secret~) I was never able to get skilled at the game enough to be arcade mode though. But I always had lots of fun trying and improving. Maybe sometime I'll try again once by boot up the Super Nintendo again. Gradius III will always go down as one of my most beloved Super Nintendo games of all time. Thanks for playing and game on fellow-gamers.😎👍
There are at least 3 to 4 hidden levels in this game, the one you mentioned, stage 3 has one, the Moai stage has one, and the speed stage I believe also has one.
thank you for posting this. this was me and my moms favorite game growing up and this mother’s day without her hits different than the others since shes passed. appreciate it!
very, very impressive. I was impressed you made it through the boss rush with no shield, but to come back from the spots you died at... wow. great run!
"I'm give up your appellation's technical monkey" was the most unexpected thing I ever saw after beating a video game on the hardest level back in the day. 😆
Oh man, you just made this so entertaining when you started the bosses stage with no shield! I was rooting here on my sofa hahaha And then you died in the next stage and was like "oohhhhh!!" Such a bad place to die! Hate when that happens 😂 I could tell how pissed you were at the last stage after dying twice just by the way you started playing haha Thankfully the last boss is the easiest boss on the run, so having not much power ups there is not really an issue. Awesome!
This game's hard as hell. I remember trying it out when I bought Gradius 3&4 on PS2, and was like 😳 I could barely get past the second stage. You make it look easy man, props!
i remember as a kid at the flame stage, i jumped for joy when i finally killed the 2 headed dragon and died to the exploding body peices right after......rip....made me cry so hard.
One of my all time favorite SNES games. Beat it on Arcade. I would use the Reduce shield, with the Formation Option and Twin Laser. If you got all of the options, then picked up enough power ups to highlight the option power again, you could expand and contract the formation at will, almost covering the screen in a wall of lasers. Made it difficult for anything to get near you. Anything that did was easily evaded with your reduced size.
I use a similar configuration, with some changes. I use rotation option along with reduce and ripple/twin laser. I also go with small spread and tailgun. I often go with the full barrier for the exclamation mark.
I preferred manually picking my weapons and options instead of the preset ones. Watching this gameplay, I cringe at certain parts of the game but she managed to pull through regardless. For shields, the miniature option is best because it makes your ship super small where you can dodge and squeeze through a lot of obstacles. By far, the best Gradius soundtrack ever!!!!!
Agreed! Best combo is E. Laser, R. Option and reduce. Like you said, you can squeeze into tight spots, still take multiple hits and the E. Laser and R. Option combo from a barrier around you that destroys anything that comes too close to you.
Thanks for posting this. I watched a playthrough last night that was very clearly TAS without listing that it was. This sure looks like you were playing!

Good run and nice recoveries. There's now a version of the SNES game without any slow-down - its pretty tough, though still nothing compared to the arcade game.
I made it ! beat the game on that f***in' difficulty setting (using autofire). I try the second loop, just for fun...it's nearly impossible : enemy speed at its max, no weaponry...I hardly and painfully made it to the middle of stage 2-1. So i don't think it's possible to 2-loop clear this mode, unless you're a hardcore nerd playing the game 8 hours a day since it came out. Thank you for inspiring me. The run will be on youtube soon.
+TBYVGS BOS What is amazing is you don't choose your shield as "reduce". I don't play the game anymore without that "reducing shield" which makes the game A LOT easier. Great run, more deserving than mine !
+TBYVGS BOS Good job clearing this game on Arcade mode! The second loop does look pretty ridiculous, but I think it would be doable with some very specific practice. If I already didn't have so much on my plate I might give it a shot but it will probably be a while lol.
+TBYVGS BOS Yeah I purposely didn't use the best weapon setup for this run because I wanted to try a run without using Reduce and F-Option (which I think is the best combo in the game).
+METAL1ON Arcade version is not hard. it's UNFAIR. I make it to the end of crystal labyrinth without dying but I lose all my lives on that f***ing cube rush. SNES version is more balanced and less frustrating.
This was MY GAME growing up. Oh the nostalgia watching this video! This is straight up like a Nardwar question “Charlie, is it true you loved Gradius growing up?!?”
ah my beautiful childhood, full of games like this that tortured me to no end just an fyi it's best to remember exactly where the enemies spawn and kill them as soon as they get on screen, it's a bad idea to let them fire at all tbh though sometimes you don't really have a choice but when you do you should definitely take advantage of that
Feels like an imperfect remix port of the arcade game. The Gradius 1,2 and Salamander/Lifeforce references get lost with changed boss music. With that said, still looks fun.
Bravo man! This is so impressive! You've earned another sub! I've only ever been able to beat the game on Normal. I think the farthest I ever got on Arcade Mode was stage 3. Haha XD
Goes to boss rush without shield. What a chad lmao. And I appreciate that you used type c. Most people just straight up used the OP combination of reduce and f option. That is also my pick but it's refreshing to see different ship type being utilized.
A lot of people seem to complain about the slowdowns, but I actually use them to my advantage. It is VERY helpful to shoot as much as possible when there are lots of projectiles around, since this slows down the gameplay and gives you more reaction time.

I would always die at that ceiling flinging rocks at me and maneuvering the small spaces afterwards. Such a big spike in difficulty especially if you loose your weapons
@@Persac7 Still decently impressive! If you can beat Boss Rush, I'd say you have enough skill to be able to beat the game, since the Mechanical Base is only a little bit harder than boss rush.
Kaway kaway sa mga batang gapo at addicts sa Broadway nung 90's. I stopped my 2nd year in high school because of these arcades games. Pero kung mauulit ang panahon na yon , I will do it again.!!!
Situations like that are exactly why I hated the double speed boost. I'd voluntarily die after the Speed Check level just to get rid of it and get a good portion of my stuff back before the boss rush. I didn't run speed down, I liked the shield refresh with the shrink shield.
The arcade version on Switch bodied me so hard that I have to go back to the SNES version today. The SNES indeed is still a tough game but at least this is for human beings.
Childhood timeline : world one. Baby. World two. Realize this game isn't boring... World four really gaining confidence. The rock crush cave. : my god how hard is it going to get!? And when you get past it.... am I some kinda higher being?? Advance to normal mode and beyond. My vote for best Snes game. Here just for the nostalgia.
Minute 32 i was like :OOOOO what? really insane video, from minute 35 on I didn't have memory of it, so I assume i never got that far when i was a kid lol
Rosia "CrazyPlantMae" This game was one of the launch titles in America. The launch titles for the SNES were actually quite amazing: even the Japanese launch titles "Super Mario World" and "F-Zero" (which were also launch titles everywhere in the world) were good enough to start with, but America also got "Gradius 3", "Sim City" and "PilotWings" as well, and all those games were different from each other. Perfect start for an amazing console.
The last boss is laughable considering what the entire game put you through. You have amazing muscle memory as you are one of very few who can get further than the forth level lol
heres a tip always go into the custom weapon select...reduce shield( smaller ship ) saves lives...f option rotating option best ones.... and e laser kills bosses fast or the skinny lasers c lasers not twin... i played this game way too many times one of my faves
Dude this game had the best looking bosses out of all the horizontal shooters and awesome sound track. I think the only other game that comes sort of close was the Thunder Force series.

@@charaznableplays2110 A while a go, I was able to beat it. Keep at it, man. It's hard as balls, but it isn't impossible!
@@lankymaccrazyhair264 True I beat it on normal twice but that's it and that took me until I got grown about 10 years ago
I'm on easy and I get to that boss rush
@@Persac7 Still decently impressive! If you can beat Boss Rush, I'd say you have enough skill to be able to beat the game, since the Mechanical Base is only a little bit harder than boss rush.
this game actually the prequel to Lifeforce, the story continue afer you beat that brain
long le hoang thanks! Totally going to check into that. Had. O idea.
One of my favorite games from childhood ♥️
Kaway kaway sa mga batang gapo at addicts sa Broadway nung 90's. I stopped my 2nd year in high school because of these arcades games. Pero kung mauulit ang panahon na yon , I will do it again.!!!
31:45 Even though there was no mic, I could hear the person scream the F word.
Situations like that are exactly why I hated the double speed boost. I'd voluntarily die after the Speed Check level just to get rid of it and get a good portion of my stuff back before the boss rush. I didn't run speed down, I liked the shield refresh with the shrink shield.
Departure for space sounds so lively and catchy.
I remember this game blew my mind at the time, you can have MORE THAN TWO OPTIONS???? what dark magic is this???
Janne Aalto did you go through the stage of not knowing what they were and freak out with them following you thinking they would kill you...lol
i remember playing this for hours enjoying every single bit
The arcade version on Switch bodied me so hard that I have to go back to the SNES version today. The SNES indeed is still a tough game but at least this is for human beings.
Childhood timeline : world one. Baby. World two. Realize this game isn't boring... World four really gaining confidence.
The rock crush cave. : my god how hard is it going to get!? And when you get past it.... am I some kinda higher being??
Advance to normal mode and beyond. My vote for best Snes game. Here just for the nostalgia.
I’ve played this game on my snes over a thousand times and never get tired of it! Truly a classic shooter game.
sin duda alguna el mejor juego ....
ahhhh good ol gradius 3, good times, damn good times.
man i spent a lot of time playing this game got so good knew all the secret levels
Minute 32 i was like :OOOOO what? really insane video, from minute 35 on I didn't have memory of it, so I assume i never got that far when i was a kid lol
Lol
R.I.P. Kazuhisa Hashimoto
OMG! I still remember this game when I was 7 😍.
Rosia "CrazyPlantMae"
This game was one of the launch titles in America.
The launch titles for the SNES were actually quite amazing:
even the Japanese launch titles "Super Mario World" and "F-Zero" (which were also launch titles everywhere in the world) were good enough to start with, but America also got "Gradius 3", "Sim City" and "PilotWings" as well, and all those games were different from each other.
Perfect start for an amazing console.
The last boss is laughable considering what the entire game put you through. You have amazing muscle memory as you are one of very few who can get further than the forth level lol
Of course, the president is physically weaker than all his bodyguards.....
I remember playing gradius 3 as a kid. I use to be a pretty amazing player made it far what a ▶game◀ that was.
This was my most played SNES game back when I owned one. I freakin' loved it. I used to run through Arcade mode all the time. This was a great run.
I love this soundtrack.....It make me wish to go to the space.
Lab this game so much. Miss my childhood days man! :'/
I remember the plant level being the farthest I ever made it as a kid. Jesus this game was difficult.
heres a tip always go into the custom weapon select...reduce shield( smaller ship ) saves lives...f option rotating option best ones.... and e laser kills bosses fast or the skinny lasers c lasers not twin... i played this game way too many times one of my faves
Dude this game had the best looking bosses out of all the horizontal shooters and awesome sound track. I think the only other game that comes sort of close was the Thunder Force series.
