If I wasn't in bed trying to stay warm at the moment, I'd have my 70 year old self up and dancing!:-)

Until quite recently I didn't even know that banjo-uke was even a thing in old-time music, now it seems every video I click on has one in it. Clawhammer banjo, of course, but banjo-uke? Learn something new every day I reckon. I really like the rhythm of it.

It's a C tune in standard tuning (as far as I can remember). It was a Fiddling John Carson tune and was also played by Lowe Stokes (of the Skillet Lickers and Clayton McMichen's Hometown Boys), as well as other fiddlers. It was much fun playing guitar at this jam!!!

    'Excuse me,, I'm late!
    Kinda new to me.
It's like a trance or a vacuum to not pull away from.
My take is that the banjo ( or ukelayle?) is kinda like 'the drum' here?
Y'all sound and 'feel' Real Good!!!
That melody and it's dynamics are breathing!
    ((+ i wonder where this was? '

Just wished Clifftop was a little closer. Looks like it's about 900+ miles from where I live in the Ozarks. Wish we had some old time music festivals here, but it just doesn't happen. What a shame. Would love to have some of you fine musicians come here to pick and grin. Thank goodness someone posted this on UA-cam. It lets me know there's still great music out there.

It's about 585 from Jackson tn. We've been the last three years and getting together a few more to go also. Really some good oldtime music there. We also have little to none oldtime here. The group we play in try to keep it going but sometimes we feel like a loosing battle. Country/ rock-a-Billie/ and Bluegrass. Not knocking the other music we just prefer old-time🎻

@ArkRed1 Streak O'Lean Streak O'Fat is basically the same tune except HBLIG's third part is SOLSOF's 2nd part and SOLSOF has a different 4th part.

Are the fiddles tuned standard? Sounds like they are in C. Great tune. I'm with Rachel, I didn't want the tune to end. Is it a Gid Tanner or John Carson tune?

Sorry, but the scrubbing of the banjo uke is detrimental to the work of the 5-string player, who is almost unheard here. Otherwise, a very nice video!

    •  7 років тому +10

Keep in mind the sound we hear in this video is not representative of what it sounded like exactly for people who were inside or next to that jam circle. If someone's playing here was distasteful or disrespectful, I'm sure the end result wouldn't be nearly as good as this. Excellent video indeed! I keep coming back to it, again and again.

as if banjo's aren't loud enough and annoying as it is, someone has to go inventing the banjo uke to one up.
