This week I'm diving into macOS Sequoia after updating to the latest beta release on my M3 MacBook Air! macOS Sequoia was announced at WWDC24, and packs a bunch of new things likeiPhone mirroring, wallpapers, updates to the camera, notes, safari, and a whole lot more.
I'll go over the setup of each of them, just note that this is still in beta, so these things could change!

at 2:32, if you are in an app, that button that does "nothing" it can bring you back into the home screen (im pretty sure)

Definitely. iPhone mirroring just for the notifications alone I've found super helpful in the short time I've been playing with it. Really looking forward to when this stuff is fleshed out a little more

very much so on the fence about buy an M3 pro MacBook Pro now for my MBA program that starts in September or waiting until I am a few months into school and waiting for the M4 MacBooks to come out. any thoughts on this as it seems like the jump from M3 to M4 seems like it a decent one.

Interesting that with Windows 11 (24H2 IIRC) Microsoft is putting away WordPad and “suggesting” that you buy Word if you want some rich text editing tool. (Or, I add, maybe install Libre Office or similar.)
Meanwhile, Apple adds more functionality and flexibility to Notes, which I’m using more and more. When you want to move beyond the bounds of Notes functionality, you can open in Pages, or print to PDF. This is why I’m only using Windows at work now, and MacOS all the way for my personal computing.

07:00 I think it's a bad idea - if Apple blocks/deletes your Apple ID, all access to your passwords and passkeys is gone.
(Make no mistake: This has happened - when people have hacked into your ID, resulting in the ID being permanently blocked).
Better use a third-party service that is not tied to your Apple ID.
No matter what password manager you use, you need to have an offline copy in a safe or bank deposit box.
I would go crazy with the iPhone mirroring 😌 will it be mirror between apple devices only? I did not install the beta.

My number one feature in MacOS 15 is tiling windows ( what us Linux folks call snapping ) as it's what I need vs. the over complicated little utils. I wish they'd sherlock Ice like functionality so as to hide the HUGE amount of icons on the menu bar, it gets just to cluttered and I dislike how they end up behind the notch when not plugged into a dock w/ a monitor.
Sometimes I like to move windows around while working on different apps, would that make the window resize/snapping ?
you can choose if snapping should be activated by holding an extra key or not while dragging the window.
Rifle mirroring is not working on my 2019 iMac for some reason
Did you get to try out the new predictive code completion in Xcode beta? Do you like it or predict having a real use for it?
Also Apple confirmed this feature will require 16GB unified memory. Do you think this means programming on 8GB is over? (I remember you quite enjoyed the base 15" M2 Air even for iOS projects).
I haven't tried it yet, but I'd expect you'll still be able to code, just maybe not with the advanced on-device AI stuff. Maybe this is what pushed Apple to start devices off at a higher RAM level (I've heard future devices could start at 12GB, but who knows)
RE: window snapping. Agreed that apple for who knows why has been so primitive about implementing this. Now that they will, I wonder if it will be up to par with the 3rd party options like rectangle or magnet. I've found that I don't care much about native tiling with options like Rectangle, and worry that Sequoia will mess this up.
How does phone mirroring behave when it requires Face ID to access some app or verify identity?

I was so exited for iPhone mirroring but I was so let down when it said "this is not available in your region" like bro why have it be visible then
2:31 That button is supposed to take you to the home screen.
The snap feature on Sequoia is not perfect. Firstly, when you snap it to the top to expand the window to full screen, you first have to hold down option button to even get the... option to expand the app full-screen. With Magnet you just push the entire window to the top and it full-screen's the app (without switching to full-full screen).
When you do hold down option, the built in feature expands it *underneath* the dock! Like, I don't want my windows under my dock! C'mon Apple. Therefore, still going to use Magnet for now.

I bought an iPhone 15 Pro, now the EU f*cks things up. Because of the wonderful legislation of the EU Apple won’t release the AI stuff over here!

iPhone Mirroring (maybe of some use to some people)
Window Tiling (just sad macos didn't have this before)
Video Calling (nothing special)
Calculator (maybe of some use)
Safari (Only if the OS is in english)
Passwords (it's fine)
Messages (no one uses this outside USA)
Maps (no one uses this, even less outside USA)
Notes (nothing special)
AirPods (I like this update)
Gaming (Ok if you play on the mac)

iPhone already syncs everything you could possibly need from your phone to your Mac and iPad. Mirroring the iPhone on the Mac is pointless. What a useless feature to add.

You dont get the point, its about the apps you can open now on your mac an navigate through the mac. This is a game changing feature
