@@jondavidtheauthor6318 nerd culture became mainstream, so the mainstream does what it does with all niche things, over exposes it and ruins it. It wouldn't bother me so much if it was just niche like some music, but people got bullied and messed up for liking these things and the same bullies took it over and now say "like it or you are (insert phob or ism)" Because most people are adults now that won't let you bully them anymore so they smear you. That is literally the only method they have left.
1) I said LCD instead of LED for the volume set reference. Duh. 2) I would like to clarify one thing. One does not have to be a graduate of the sciences, maths and such to be a nerd but I think most nerds and geeks have an appreciation for the sciences, nature, etc. I graduated from Radio Television Arts but I built stereos, was an astronomy nerd with a telescope, and studied nuclear physics in my spare time.
I am a nerd. Although I am a Classicist (Ancient History, Latin and Ancient Greek and yes I can read and write both) I am interested in sciences; I just find them difficult. To underline what you say, however, there are magazines aimed obviously at science inclined nerds which contain science fiction stories and science fact articles (Analog; Asimov Science Fiction; Fantasy & Science Fiction). There are no magazines containing fiction stories based on Women’s or Gender Studies.
I've been a History Nerd ever since I was 6 and my mother took me to an antique store. Fascinated ever since and even worked in archeology when I was in college and taught it. Unfortunately woke infected academia is just as bad and well not in there anymore.
But OMG it helps, Major in Biology and Clinical Laboratory Science and dabbled in all the other Hard Sciences especially Quantum Physics which is probably the most simultaneously serious and silly of all science.
I'm a straigh white woman and, believe me, I'm sick to my stomach with all that is happening and the destruction of culture that's taking place right now. You'd expect a woman to be happy with all the "girl power" and "force is female" stuff but no. Hell no. I'm in my 40's and I grew up with Star Wars, Star Trek, Indiana Jones and so on. I want female heroines like Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor for heaven's sake, women who embrace motherhood and allow men in their lives. I want to watch movies that inspire me, not make feel bad because I'm a white straight european (that will never happen). I have reached a point where if a woke leftist calls me a fascist I consider it an honor because it means that I'm doing something right..
I recently had the pleasure of revisiting the Terminator franchise (only the first 2 😅) with my wife who'd never seen one. It really put into perspective how far the "strong female lead" archetype has been lost in the modern gender wars.
As a black woman I am sick and tired of the lazy race swapping and the pandering it entails. There are countless black folk lore and tales to be had in the African continent but instead Hollywood keeps making iconic characters black for their shallow diversity needs. It's just so lame and I hate it. Ariel is one of my favorite Disney princesses and she never needed to look like me for me to identify with her and her passion for learning and adventures. And now Robin Hood is going to be race and gender swapped for a black woman. Ugh, I can't stand the stupidity and hope every last bit of this SJW woke trash crashes and burns. It upsets me to no end but it's good to find real nerds here on UA-cam who understand that.
you know the cartoon will still exist right? like Ariel isn't being "replaced" & is also a Disney property. mush worse that Americans want to own every cultures stories because the truth of their nation is that it was founded on slavery and genocide.
@@spellman007 I do realize it will still exist but that doesn't excuse the extremely LAZY job their doing. It's lame, they barely make anything new, they're upcycling work that's not even that old and race and gender swapping for brownie points for the ESG. They don't give a crap about black people. And it's not just Disney. Everyone is black washing the crap out of everything they can to kowtow to woke identity politics. I just named these two because they are the ones that upset me the most as they were my favorites. And I don't know what Kool aid you're sipping on but The United States was founded on freedom from tyranny. They didn't leave to murder anyone. They came to be free, nothing else. Please take your unenlightened and very off topic slandering of my country to someone who partakes in that garbage cause it is not me.
Anyone who's been through the mill of higher education in the last fifteen years (and didn't come out of it radicalized) has come to the same conclusion.
The worst part about SJWs taking over is that they don't even care about the franchises they ruin. They aren't fans and they don't even want to be fans, they're just upset that something non-SJW has fans. And it bothers them to no end that fans don't like their SJW stuff, so if they don't like something they're going to make damn certain that it changes so that the fans don't like it anymore. Non-SJW fans don't care if SJW content exists. If they don't like it, they simply don't support it. But to SJWs, everything must comply with SJW ideas or it cannot be allowed to exist.
It's a classic moral hazard: they get rewarded with social status and psychological gratification for making sacrifices on other people's behalf by making things less fun. The moment people have a skin in the game and truly personally care about something, they usually start making damn sure that the price paid is the lowest it can be, the benefits are tangible and as certain as possible, and the side-effects negligible or non-existent. There are no such concerns if other people shoulder all the burden.
SJW's will never win coz the originals exist still, unless it's made illegal and we gotta burn every copy of a film XD might not get any good ones in the future but Star Wars 4, 5 and 6 exist, Terminator 1 and 2 still exist. I hate the sjw's and it's true they ain't fans, hopefully monkey pox and covid wipes most of em out
One trait of Nerds and Geeks that I never hear mentioned is "Analness". We have to pick apart and correct everything, which is one reason why these Woke versions of our IPs don't work for us. We don't care what your gender is or what color skin you have, but we do care that you get your facts straight, so that we don't get dropped out of the escapism of movie and TV were are watching.
You will never find an IP with consistent continuity. Your "point" is null, which is not surprising since you apparently don't even pay enough attention to things to know the expression "anal retentive".
Once upon a time in Hollywood, it used to be the corporate bosses that were responsible for bad movies, frustrating the creative types at every step of the movie making process. Now it's the creative types that are fucking up movies and us geeks are hoping that the corporate bosses assert control over the movie making process and fire all the woke wankers so that maybe some movies will be worth watching.
The underlying issue is that the "creative types" are not creative types at all. They're just pretenders. Con-men. Wankers who wax poetically, hoping that no one realizes they're full of shit. When real creative types make something, it generates a LOT of conversation. Whether you like it or hate it, you will respect it. And sometimes you'll have different opinions based on the work. (Universally loving Stanley Kubrick was not universal. Nor probably should it be.) When these tossers make a work, the only "conversation" is a whole lot of public flagellation about how racist or sexist the public is for not watching the movie. You would think they'd have learned from the music industry that attacking your customers simply isn't a good idea. But these uncreatives don't care. They're just trying to get a paycheck for another day and then move along to the next gig before anyone realizes they don't have a creative bone in their body.
@@thewiirocks Actually I think most of the 'creative types' sincerely believe in the nonsense they espouse. The problem is they were hired on the basis ideological soundness rather than on talent, therefore writers are hired who don't even know the basics of drama.
My nerd group for DnD, movies, comics, video games consisted of an artist, a pediatrician, a comic store owner, an optometrist, Marine, a mechanic, an Air Force Captain, An import/export manager, a bartender and a banker. oh, and me an insurance salesman. The occasional curious girlfriend might stop by. All creative, all closet nerds!
I remember one of my earliest encounters with SJWs. They claimed "thinking so and so ain't gay is "straight culture". I dared to suggest people can have whatever interpretation of said character they want. I was dogpiled with accusations of homophobia and fragile masculinity (though the joke was on them as I'm a woman) basically any degratory name to shut down any argument. Ya see the big difference between nerds and sjws is: When nerds enjoy something, they want to *share that enjoyment with others.* Sjws hate everything and want something geared only to *what they enjoy.*
What I have realized about the SJWs is they never settle down even for moment ... they are in constant state of agitation and unhappiness. NOTHING is ever good enough. My earliest experience was an18 yr old feminist at a restaurant. Finally after knowing her a year she was upset at me and told me she could tell me 'what was wrong with my marriage' (18, can't drink yet , never been married even a day but she knows how a 44 yr marriage functions?) I just told her good bye. Life is too darn short.
Yes "nerds" famously love indulging in contrary opinions about the shows/movies/comics they love. They never fly into a rage and accuse others of "not getting it" or "being fake fans." It's just never happened, ever.
There is definitely something very weird about the whole “nerdy yet woke” people - a specific picture comes to mind for me: someone with glasses with dyed hair and a Harry Potter scarf - anyways, the weird thing is that they are *more* focused on espousing on whether characters fit boxes than they are on the *story* itself. I always found this very odd. They could care less if the story sucks. It has to have the right phrases - like “let’s burn the old way down” etc.
See, I'm a conserative and I agree with you on a lot of points. These SJWs seem to be keen on dividing us, for some reason. Keep doing what you're doing. It's good to hear from all sides.
I think conservatism and classical liberalism are actually very similar. I know he said he was a progressive, but I'm not sure that's the right word for it any more. But even if he is an actual progressive, there is a lot of ground that we can stand on together, while having a civil disagreement on specific things like gun rights, abortion, socialized Healthcare, etc.
The corporations are dividing us through ESG scores which create the SJWs and all the woke propaganda. "activists' are just people brainwashed by ESG scores. Corporations love feminism and abortion and division so we don't target them. They love hate speech laws v=because they want more censorship. the woke are just useful idiots that will be eventually abandoned.
@@DrCruel Thing is, I don't think they understand they're racists. Remember the old saying: "Hell is paved with good intentions"? Well, they're full of good intentions. But if Hell was a real thing, since the SJWs are around it would have the best roads in all the Universe/Multiverse/Whatever.
Ohhh yeah, definitely no 4k streaming beats a blu-ray! I got shocked at age 4 fixing my parents VHS player, so we could watch Star war (original trilogy) even them I loved tearing things apart to know how they worked.and still do 😃
One of my favorite parts of watching some of my movies is the director or actor commentaries when the actors or directors took it seriously. I would love to see that being offered as part of streaming services.
Rent a commentary or film is just that. Rent. Calling it streaming is just how they advertise a cheaper rent product that you will never control. Temporary without any return.
I think what’s so frustrating about it is that when I think of people who are open and accepting of people regardless of pointless crap like race and sexual orientation, I think of nerds. When I was a nerd in high school, those people who were discriminated against usually found their friend groups with us, and now the preppy assholes who looked down on the rest of us went to college, got bullshit degrees, and now insist the people they shoved in lockers are the intolerant ones. These people would just as quickly use a slur as condemn one, that’s why so many of them have nasty skeletons in their closet that constantly get found. I do find it hilarious that Hollywood of all people think that they have the right to lecture the rest of us about sexism and racism when they invented the casting couch.
Another important distinction between 'nerds of a certain age' and the woke brigade is that 'nerds' kept our interests in the face of, often intense, social pressure to recant them. In the 80's being the kid who played dungeons and dragons in the math room at lunch wasn't a positive thing. Being a girl who played dungeons and dragons in the math room at lunch meant you were the bottom of every possible social pyramid. We know from those early experiences what bullies and bullying looks like - and if they couldn't intimidate and harry us into compliance when we were children, what chance does this new manifestation of would-be tyrants have of succeeding now we are adults? The woke, whose weaponry is social ostracism, face resistance from a people who have already proved immune to their tactics and do not bow to gain acceptance - and we know the lore.
"we know the lore." As a fellow female D&D player, I agree. We can be obsessive over our favorite hobbies. Dare to ruin those hobbies and face our wrath--or withheld credit cards!
"extremelly silly comedy requires very smart people". absolutly correct. one of the reasons the simpsons became a huge hit was its balance between silliness, social commentary and critic, character development, and cultural reference (either american or foreign). that required a lot of knowledge in many areas as well as skill to glue all together. and is not coincidence it worked. a lot of the people involved had very impressive academic backgrounds, sometimes even not related to film industry, like mathematics or physics.
Futurama and to a degree Disenchantment are also cast in the same vein, and it's what makes them so rewatchable. There's always some little gem in each episode that requires quite a bit of knowledge to get. Of course it helps to have the common creator in Matt Groening.
_Seinfeld_ matches this description too. It had lots of slapstick and zaniness, but the plots were intricate and required a certain level of cultural literacy. You would never see a scene based on the Judgment of Solomon on _Friends_ 😂
I think another difference between the "nerd" and the twits is that nerds are inquisitive and introspective, combined with a sense of humility... questioning their ideas and themselves to continually learn, re-evaluate, understand, and improve, contrasted to adherence to dogma that shalt not be questioned. This allows them to really delve deep down and to explore ideas - thus why you get better worldbuilding, stories, characterisation, etc., because they're being looked at and scrutinised from every angle. Another great video, and I appreciate your authenticity. Cheers from down the road.
If I may, I finally understand why the Archie Sonic comics failed. I learned in hindsight they were written by an SJW with a kink for political theatrics that make the prequels look like child's play and a...disturbing abundance of incest and love of child grooming. Makes sense that he's screaming slurs at conservative judges and threatening lawsuits against Paramount and SEGA for making anything about echidnas without his permission like he owns the goddamn species. I hope he gets NUKED FROM ORBIT. If you don't know...clean your stomach before looking up the cancer to humanity that is Kenneth W. Penders III.
It's kind of like a comparison between scientists and religious fanatics. The scientists want improvements and know they must question everything to get there, even the fundamentals. If you could disprove fundamentals in science, you'd be lauded for it, even if it threw all the research in the world into question. ESPECIALLY then. You handed everyone the missing piece they've been looking for. The religious fanatic wants society to stay static for thousands of years. They think the perfect answers are already found, so any attempt to "improve" it would bring us away from perfection. Doubt is seen as a personal flaw, not a potential issue with the dogma. If you had irrefutable proof that it's horseshit, they'd deny their own senses and reasoning, and they'll admit it. They'll also destroy you and your proof so nobody can hear it. Nerds have a huge overlap with scientists. The woke are exactly like a medieval cult of religious fanatics and witch hunters, just without a God. They'd claim that paper bags are racist before they'd argue their way out of one.
I think this diametric opposition between true nerds/geeks and the wokeists in terms of mindset is exactly why it was the nerds and geeks who posed the first meaningful and vocal opposition to their Borg-like assimilation of all aspects of culture and not the political wonks, the academics, the sports fanatics and so on. That's why I think the wokeists take such delight in claiming nerd things for themselves when they usually had little to no prior affection for those things. It's co.quered territory to them, which they flaunt in our faces and publicly maim out of spite for us, as if to say "how dare your silly nerd crap start to become popular when we're the normal ones (which they're not) who deserve success!" In the wise words of the mighty Razorfist, The Rageaholic, "Don't just complain about the culture. BE the culture!"
Graduated college in the early 2000's, almost every class I took focused in some way on critical thinking, and there weren't heavy handed political and/or social biases at play, in fact the entire idea was to CHALLENGE your beliefs and understanding of the world. In the last 10-15 years many colleges seem to have turned into echo chambers that exist solely to provide reinforcement for people's predetermined, unshakeable ideologies, and now we're seeing the results in many facets of society, including entertainment. Thanks for calling it like you see it!
So true! I graduated in college in 2011, and can say my experience was very similar to yours. Something happened about halfway into the 2010s that changed everything dramatically. Johnathan Haidt's book, "Coddling of the American Mind," covers this quite well.
@@nerdygrl647Thanks, I'll check it out! I'm not sure when the change happened but when I started hearing about "safe spaces" that truly baffled me, why go to college at all if you just want to block out the real world?
I was a geek girl before it was “cool”, so I know what it’s like to be bullied because of it. However, I never thought a huge company like Hollywood would be the ones doing the bullying. They hate us so much, but they need us.
I've never thought of myself as a nerd because I'm east European, having glasses and good grades made you a "stove (4 eyes)", not a "nerd" or "book worm", also I'm tall so they couldn't really bully me and were too stupid to coordinate to fight me. And as part middle easter female from the Balkans I mostly ignored swj and wokeism as an american whatever. We have issues but race and gender are not real issues, we've had horrible wars recently, but we're in EU now united in diversity and all that. But fuck if I'm not upset at what Amazon did to Tolkien's work and I'm not even a fantasy fan, I'm into sci-fi. The violation and desecration is so offensive, so vile, that it has moved even me. And I'm fighting it however I can.
@@TrueGamer22887 I'm not seeing the outrage or whining that you seem to be suggesting Chato is embodying.. Not that it doesn't exist - it absolutely does, and to be fair I think that a few of the people he mentioned are guilty of just that - but not him... at least not yet! If anything quite the opposite - he purposefully avoids blanket generalisations and simply uses sjw in the same way that you have, as a pejorative for extremists. What he does do is constantly refer back to the positives as a touchstone for how to do it right.. he even spells out why, for example by contrasting the spirit of risk taking and originality that characterises creativity and IP generation with the safety of unoriginal, pandering sequels and IP exploitation. By exalting the spirit that made 'nerd culture' (though I prefer "modern mythologies") the modern phenomena that it is he is absolutely championing it: That is virtually the definition of the word! I'd suggest that maybe YOU have become hypersensitised to modern outrage culture and the tribalism that it is rooted in and so are rejecting anything that appears like a rallying cry to one side or the other without critically appraising what is being said... Which ironically is a symptom of that exact problem - not hearing out people you think you may disagree with. Edit.. due to the need for a conclusion
I had my first encounters with SJWs when they tried to smear The Angry Video Game Nerd because he didn't wanna review Ghostbusters 2016. What a time to be alive. That movie aged like vinegar. All the hate by the creators of that movie, just because they could not accept valid criticism of an objectively bad movie.
that is also when I came to learn about SJW's. I immediately hated them because I LOVED the AVGN at the time (and still do) he made a fair case as to why he didnt want to see it, and he was smeared by feminists and the like. Almost instantly, any point they were fighting for (or rather what they claimed to be fighting for) was moot to me as they targeted someone who did nothing wrong.
I didn't know about Star Trek when I made my Mom take me to Wrath of Khan. I just knew it was set in space. I was only 7 but anything about space and I was in. It is something you are drawn to. It feels like there are a few too many that have just latched on to nerd/geek stuff as it became more popular.
Something is going on, and despite the corporate mainstream's attempts to stamp it out, the 'something' will not stop. Thanks for giving it oxygen and sunlight. Cheers.
Brilliant. I've an arts background but always found the possibilities of science fascinating. I'll never forget watching the moon landings. Tolkien was my first love [I know, I know] but I found Roddenberry's view of the future inspiring and more recently latched on to the blue-collar sci-fi in The Expanse. I'm 60 now. Man-child and proud. I can live with the fact Hollywood currently hates nerds. I lived through some of the great moments in pop culture and have every faith that at some point the wheel will turn and originality will again prevail.
so you are a 60 year old man that thinks film companies "hate" you becasue non white people are being cast in superhero/ star wars stuff? that's honestly so pathetic...
The great loss in film is the B-film, a lower budget production that can take more risks and let filmmakers experiment. Now everything has to be an ultra-safe billion dollar affair with a massive franchise like the MCU. Even in TV influential shows like star trek or firefly that might have only lasted a season or two, aren't desirable compared to 12 season epics like game of thrones that clear the broadcast schedule and sell streaming subs.
They still exist and are rather good. But, you either have to A: Be outside of the Hollywood Sphere or B: Be an actor who is willing to do trash and have enough name recognition to get away with it. Examples: Bruce Cambell and Nick Cage.
Some people say that Ed Wood was the worst director of all time but at least he was free to make his low budget movies I really wish we had more Ed Woods in the Hollywood industry because sometimes an ed wood would turn out to be a Tim Burton or George Lucas or Steven Spielberg
I worked in a video rental store back in the late 80's. Was a great time for B-movies and I got to order all the scifi/fantasy/horror movies I wanted. We had a ton of regular customers that we would chat with for hours. Miss that time.
Same with gaming. I miss the days of the PS2 and further back when you had a lot more experimentation from major studios since the budgets weren't as ridiculous. Doubt we'll see stuff like Shadow Hearts, Phantom Dust, or Onimusha again.
This is very prevalent in Netflix if a show loses its top ten spot right after let’s say a weak they cancel shows even if the reviews were good. They need to either stop making a lot of shows and put money into only a couple or just make movies.
I think they have a list somwhere and it looks something like: -Make sure there is a strong black whamen -Make sure that if you put any men in the video, make them a loon, idiot or evil -Find all previous movies made by white men and make sure the white males are replaced -Make sure that in every movie, you have dialog in scenes which promote 'breaking boundaries' -Make sure you have an LGBTQ character and/or mention in the movie -Make sure white people are always receiving advice from POCs -Make sure you are virtue signaling in all things Something like that.
A few other suggestions come to my mind for the reverse engineered guide to woke story telling: - A female character shall never be in need of being saved ( and even less by a man) -No love story between a man and a woman should be allowed; - in every group or army of fighters, half the characters, minimum, shall be women. These groups shall always be lead by women; - No white male character shall be allowed to poke fun at any character from an oppressed minority, instead he shall be taught a lesson...
Society really has changed; when I started persuing the entertainment business I was "too middle of the road". Now 20+ years later I'm too Edgy. My act is exactly the same. Society has went so soft.
Now everything has to be depressing (movies, TV, Books and Comics). I just watched Singing in the rain, and how refreshing and happy a movie I watched. Nowadays, everything is about the message (quoting the critical drinker), and they/them hate everyone who does not meet their SJW reality. I hope to return to a happy place and enjoy a good history without implying systemic problems. Love the video
_Now everything has to be depressing (movies, TV, Books and Comics)._ It was the same in the early 1970s, in the era of stagflation, the Vietnam War winding down, the Energy Crisis. Films were gritty. But by the mid-1970s the tide began to turn, with films such as _Jaws_ and _Star Wars_ bringing in simple, entertaining stories told well, and earning big box office receipts as a result.
I want to believe that we'll return to that. All this garbage nowadays doesn't appeal to any human being. We can already see business-minded individuals creep back into these corporations and kick out the parasites. They either do that or they'll all go broke and get swept away, so real creatives can enter the market. It can't be long now until they ran out of old franchises to bastardize. Then they HAVE to make new stuff, and they can't. They're bleeding out.
Sir, you made me travel back in time to when I was a teenager. At they time there was a list of requirements: more boxes you tick more the nerd is strong in you. 1. Love for science, math and technology. Eventually also history but only the military one. 2. Attraction for science fiction. 3. Attraction for Japanese animation. 4. Collect comics or manga 5. Have a huge library of fantasy and science fiction books. 6. Socially awkwardness. Have few friends and a magnet for bullies and girls but for the latter the polarity is inverted. 7. At 8yo have a perfect knowledge of UHF propagations and antennas because you struggled to tune your TV to see that certain vintage show that passed only on the shitty secondary channels. 8. Designed some wild contraptions like computers, robots, airplanes, power armors etc. 9. Raided a junk yard to obtain parts for the contraption at point 8. 10. Actually build some of the things you've designed. 11. Made your parents afraid for your social awkwardness. 12. Made your parents afraid that you could accidentally burn your house. 13. Once you got inside to the chemistry lab at the high school you immediately started to figure out how to make explosives. 14. You ended up choosing a STEM faculty at the college. 15. You attend various nerdy conventions on regular basis 16. You have done cosplay at least once. 17. You loves tabletop games and role play games. 18. You have done a watching marathon at least once. 19. You have no interest in sport and your fitness is poor.
Lately the tabletop game Warhammer has been seeing an influx of SJW's trying to destroy the IP. It's beautiful to see how zealous the Warhammer fandom is in shutting them down. FOR THE EMPEROR !!
I'm gay and I despise what the so called LGBT community that I'm supposedly is becoming. It was supposed to be about inclusivity and acceptance. These SJWs have debased a movement that was basically about love and turned into some frankenstein. Keep up the work with your videos dude. You're doing democratic and civil society a big favour. Thx ☺❤❤ (edit: minor grammatical error & fixed omitted word "society" as in "civlil society" and thanks for the kind likes =) )
I will always say that the thing that makes a Nerd a Nerd is that they really do care about the media (or any habit) they consume. A fan of a subject may enjoy a movie, or like a game or even a sport. But a Nerd will truly fall in love with something. They will adore it and care about it. It means more to them than simply some fun diversion. And you can have Nerds about anything in the world. It just so happens that comics, speculative fiction and RPGs were things that were rarely massively popular The LOTR films work because Peter Jackson was a Nerd. He loved those books and seemed willing to do anything for the film to work. Tolkien was a Nerd. He loved his Languages and delighted in playing his games with them and making a world they could live in.

Since I reached my teens, I've seen lack of a sense of humor as a serious disability. - These poor people simply don't have the ability to understand or appreciate the complex world they are a part of. And as a consequence they go though their lives being pissed, because they don't understand why things don't work out for them.
Even my wife...who has only been exposed to Star Wars since we got married (3 years) knew Luke kicking ass was a huge thing and was surprised at my lack of response... little did she know that I'd already seen the episode and was watching it again with our son.
It's a pity that it all leads into the garbage sequels like the Last Jedi ECT. Sad to know that he just becomes a bitter man drinking green space cow milk. I would show my niece the original three films, really the only ones that matter, and stop there. Much like Trek,Wars has been killed pretty badly. Well maybe not quite as badly as Trek sigh.
If it has not happenned yet, bet it'll be heartbreak & tears for her once she finds out how Luke was desecrated in the last jedi & then somewhat redeemed in the mandalorian.
One sentence here spoken deserves all your attention and should be taught all over the world: Learn "how" to think and not "what" to think. And this is what is taught in science and engineering in opposite to indoctrination from gender studies.
The present state of Hollywood is the same as it was 50 years ago when the studio system finished imploding. I'm waiting in anticipation to see what happens. While I'm writing my own story
This is everything I've wanted to say but not being a former executive, I lack the proper articulation to say such. But this truth bombed so hard even I felt the shock waves. Thanks Chato 🤘
Screw Hollywood!! I’m double crossing fingers AND toes every single day, hoping that Johnny Depp starts his own studio in Virginia! With a Roaring Alpaca as the logo!
7:39 I'd argue it was the opposite. After so many fans complained about the 'bad CGI' in the prequels and new special extended editions. A HUGE part of the marketing for the Force Awakens, Last Jedi, and Mandalorian was how they were using majority practical effects just like the original trilogy. They proudly showed off Sean Penn in his Fat Alien suit covered with slime and wrinkles for Force Awakens, JJ Abrams posed with a real X-Wing built to scale. For Last Jedi there were photos going around of those crystal foxes in the caves of the final battle movie going viral on social media. And like the suckers we were, we ate it up rather than asking about what direction the story was going to go.
The Frantics introduced me to the philosophies behind Ti Kwan Leep. I have been a follower since the 80s. Hollywood needs to approach the Master. "Boot to the head." Thus ends the lesson. Thanks for years of levity!
Agatha Christie remains a prolific and successful creator of intellectual property. I think that even in the past talented and disciplined people could succeed in money and fame regardless of their sex.
You know it is nice to know that I am not the only one who wore out the making of features and then went out and tried some of these things(built the Death Star trench on the dining room table ran a camera on train tracks hung from ceiling and ended up destroying everything and singeing the neighbors borzoi in the process) but I digress these properties gave us permission to dream whereas now the point is to tell you what to dream or kill your dreams all together…creativity is the poor man’s rice bowl time to create a new system . Great video thanks
That is a really great point! Even for the movie everything everywhere all at once it was fascinating how the directors did the alternate universe jumping scene. That movie could have easily been a diversity focused movie if fell in the wrong hands. But these people wanted to tell a story and have funky scenes. That sincerity connected more than anything could ever do.
@@lainiwakura1776 I thought Jackie was supposed to be the lead. EDIT: Yeah, Jackie Chan was originally supposed to be the lead. But honestly, I think Yeoh and how it all turned out was better.
They don't just hate us, they also hate the properties they bought. Disney HATES the original Star Wars and Marvel franchises. That's why they are always changing, corrupting, humilliating and mocking all the great stuff WE love.
Oh my god! I knew you were in comedy, but I never realized you were a part of 4 On the Floor. I used to watch that show every week when I was a kid. Mr. Canoe Head and Boot to the Head were my favourite skits. Dude, I'm all giddy with nostalgia now. Edit: After much research, I realize now that Boot to the Head was the name of the album and the skit I was referring to was called Tai Kwan Leep.
I have watched hundreds of short films and fan films here on UA-cam, most are fantastic, but rarely will they have over 20k views, UA-cam sweeps them under the rug, and even when looking for them I can spend hours and come up empty handed. Occasionally I find a pocket of greats all at once, but this is becoming rarer and rarer.
This is really interesting I hadn’t thought about things from this angle. T2, The Matrix and even The Dark Knight, all movies that (amongst the people I knew) were being talked about for the special effects both pre and post watch. The past few years VFX is mostly talked about because of how bad it is visually and how terribly the people that do it are treated. We are regressing it seems.
You nailed it . Everytime. Can't wait for the creative naive volcano to erupt . Can't wait. Because lately..all entertainment (except youtube creators) is dull. Samey. And chock full of virtue signaling.
"Diversity Triffids". Outstanding. I have used the Triffids to make many a point but that descriptor is brilliant! You need to incorporate it onto a T-Shirt although those wearing it might find themselves in a spot of trouble when out-and-about!

I´m a lawyer, so I also have no soul or basic human decency, but SJW are somehow worse It is true what you say, the pushback to the woke BS must come from us, creating an alternative to Hollywood. It is the only way to fight back to the totalitarians, create alternatives until they have no power left. Thanks for this rants PS.: 4 locos en el set forever!

Im an amateur writer, i like to create short stories about people finding extraordinary glimpses of the unknown, the infinite and the fabric of reality and existence unexpectedly amid mundante everyday acts or thoughts. I can feel literal pain, cold sweat and flashes of sheer deception when scripts, stories or dialogues murder my hope for a good tale. Thanks for your reflections on the matter, you are very generous with the video length, no wasted seconds.
It is great to hear you encapsulate what so many younger voices are starting to call for. The aggressive attack on the garbage culture around us, while maintaining a logical and well thought out argument is what we all need, and you deliver it so on point. I hear their calls rising on the net but I love you put into words what many of us 'older nerds' think. Hopefully Vesuvius will erupt soon. 🌋🌋🌋
I'm a animator, I was finishing University when the mandalorian came out and due to how it was made, the course I was doing quietly add Unreal to it and changed the whole course for new students so they could learn Unreal Engine 5. The making of the mandalorian did really change how thing will be made in film and TV and my university was aiming to get ahead of it. I also learn how to use Unreal Engine 5 in my own time, mainly to make my own animations look better. I'm still Constantly trying to improve my skill set and find new ways of making my work look better.
I'm a conservative, but I agree with a lot of what you are saying. The problem is a lack of introspection, with a contempt for the "other side". As a thought experiment, I sat down to write a list of ten progressives I admire. I did it. Looking at the list, it wasn't about people I had a commonality with, but the people listed were progressives willing to show respect towards others. That's all I can ask, and it means the default setting is to show respect towards others.
Oh, Chato, you never disappoint. Keep up the good fight! Every rant leaves me a favorite quote. Today it’s, “Do we nerds want to know more about volume backgrounds? Hell yeah! Do SJWs? Fuck no!”.
Just like the American Comic Book Industry to quote John Ratzenberger "Hollywood has Lost Touch its touch with its Customers Years Ago." These days Reviewing Movies and Shows is like talking about Politics! It's Ridiculous!
Paul, I first knew you (as so many in the U.S. did) through Dr. Demento on Sunday nights. It's telling that a member of the Frantics now finds himself on the "wrong" side of the culture war. It directly reflects the gargantuan (and unfortunate) leftward shift since the 1980s. A shift which has become every bit as obnoxious, totalitarian, and fun-hating, as the original Moral Majority. Except, the new Moral Majority (I call it 2.0: the woke secular edition) has 1,000x the power, money, and influence than a bunch of plastic-haired televangelists ever had. My hope is that Moral Majority 2.0 eventually paints itself into a corner and burns itself out, as the original did, and we can eventually look back on this stupidity with the same head-shaking "How did they ever think that was a good idea?" pity once given to Majority 1.0, only I also hope that the people attempting to turn our pop entertainment into a rainbow 1984 church of Woke brow-beating, get taken to the financial cleaners. Nothing will teach them the error of their ways, faster.
Absolutely right on equality of outcome vs equality of opportunity. As Captain Picard said... You can make no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life.
I was a huge fan of the Mandalorian and was thrilled to see Luke's appearance in the final episode of season 2. Then, Disney fired Gina Carano over a simple tweet and poisoned the whole thing for me. I can no longer watch any Star Wars content (not even the de-specialized version I have.) Hopefully, the sense of betrayal will eventually fade and I can enjoy the content again, though I don't think I'll ever renew my subscription to Disney+, given the company's behavior.
I'm with you, but don't forget everything they did on the sequels before that. They had already ruined everything. Mando basically happened by accident because KK was desperate to sign anyone she could when TLJ was bombing hard, after she had just announced a whole trilogy for Rian (lol). That's when Favreau got to jump in, having been turned down for the sequels. KK also signed the GoT showrunners after TLJ, but then quietly unsigned them when they ruined GoT. She had no idea what she was doing, that's why TLJ is TLJ. Her mismanagement was discussed openly before TLJ came out (production troubles on every movie were mentioned in the Hollywood Reporter) but when TLJ came out they hid behind Hollywoke politics to distract from their disastrous failed product. Gina was our assassin, sent in to expose the Loserfilm feminist hypocrisy, and she succeeded in that mission perfectly. The media establishment will keep lying and saying we harassed Kelly Marie Tran, but everybody with functioning eyes could see that the real bullying was THEM harassing Gina. Bullying her. Cancelling her, trying to destroy her life. Right out in the open, no shame, no remorse - no conscience. That's just what they are, they're monsters. And it's good that Mickey took the side of the bullies. Mickey is a monstrous bully too, and is NOT on our side, never was. We have to accept that Star Wars is not Star Wars any more, it's just a branding mask worn by Mickey. Same as Marvel, which also does not exist any more, and is just a branding skin of the Mickey creature. And Favreau started that too, the MCU! Without Favreau, Disney wouldn't have either Star Wars or Marvel. They would still 'own' the IPs, but it would all be turned completely to dust, without Favreau. Mando S2 was the perfect follow-up to the glorious Humiliation of Abrams with Mando S1, and gave us real fans a beautiful funeral for the true, dead Star Wars.
Whenever I would mention the lack of world-building in the sequel trilogy, Redditites would reply with “It’S tHe StOrY tHaT MaTtErs.” Well lo and behold, the story sucks too lol.
To me, it's not the lack of world-building so much as the lack of effort and lack of passion. It's just corporate fan fiction slop that they expect you to lap up like a dog, and how dare you dislike it.
@@Rezzanine true enough, though I think good world-building is naturally downstream of the passion and effort you mention. In the end, I just got tired of being gaslighted every time I pointed out something that didn’t make sense in the universe by people saying what doesn’t make sense in the universe doesn’t matter for “the story.” It’s Star Wars for crying out loud; the story is nothing without the creativity of the universe and the way it’s presented.
@@onlyonestarwarsfan5337 Yeah, you're right, the world building would be a byproduct of the passion and effort. Gaslighting is the right word. It's a damn shame Lucas sold. I actually appreciated the prequels at the time (and even more so now) and thought the criticisms, though justified, were far too harshly and insultingly delivered. Still, no matter the criticisms, Lucas (and Lucasfilm under his management) never, ever stooped so low as to insult paying customers, unlike the... current management.

Passion vs Hate The popular girl that rejected the nerd for the jock, the nerd became wealthy & successful while she got pregnant & became alone & now wants the nerd but hates the fact, he doesn't want her. This is the equivalence with the nerd creations that were rejected & outcasted back in the day, now that our content has become mainstream & successful, the people who were popular are now not & cannot stand the fact that nobody gives them attention like they crave. We are smart, passionate, sensible, common, sincere, honest, etc. They are hateful, jealous, narcissistic, etc. Good vs evil You can't fix or create something that you are only working on because you hate it. The SJWs need to focus on what they are good at, faking reality to make themselves feel better about living in a fake world. When it comes down to it, all they know, all they are, all they are good at is living in a fake world with fake facts & fake ideologies. The truth is, they are alone & cannot stand that they have focused so much time & passion into something that nobody else but themselves are into yet they crave the attention of EVERYBODY. They cannot handle that people dont like them & they have no skills other than repeating / memorizing a fake ideology. We nerds create wonderful beautiful worlds that we create for ourselves & dont care if nobody else likes it but us, but the thing is it does, people other than nerds like what we create. We are the opposite of them & people like us & they cannot stand it. We are at a psychological / ideological war that we will win because we are honest, truthful & passionate about truth... they are liars that force others to believe their lies. Be patient, be vigilant, be passionate & everything will work itself out for the best in the end. Truth always wins & nobody ever said winning would be fast or easy.
The word "franchise" is a dirty word for me. I've been in to many fast food joints to expect quality. You get no "brand loyalty" from me. Give me something new and good, or see returns diminish exponentially. As the gamers say, Get Good.
I jumped up when I heard Luke's theme&the Xwing crossed the scene. That is the only good thing Disney has done. A full decade of effort&spending, for 4 minutes of Star Wars. Golf claps for the mouse&all their failures.
You can cheer whatever you want, but please consider how low you set your bar. Comments like this feed into the stereotype that geeks are so braindead that we just occasionally need to be fan-serviced with images from the good days (even at the cost of narrative coherence) and we will lick the boots of our media-dispensing masters. I was not happy at Luke's appearance, because I didn't think it happened in the context of a good story with good worldbuilding. I think that's a better place to set the bar. Shows like Arcane totally deliver on that. Mandelorian, not so much. But it had a cute CGI puppet ... and a scene with CGI Luke. That's Disney telling us, "I think you're gross, but I guess I'll give you this half-hearted handjob because I know it doesn't take more to keep you lusting over me and also I want you to keep paying for my stuff."
@@davidhoracek6758 out of all the hours of content they've churned out, I only credit them for 4 minutes and I'm setting the bar low? I don't think you understand what's being said here at all.
We need you to keep giving Hollywood a severe BOOT TO THE HEAD! While I love big-budget Sci-Fi, I also love a deeply scientific mystery like Andromeda Strain or Colossus:The Forbin Project. Good luck getting something like that made today. Crichton seemed to have this great ability to take cutting edge science and see what bad directions it could go if in the wrong hands. All while still being accessible to the average nerd. We won't talk about Congo.
Love your videos, man. Hearing the alphabet gang entrenched in Hollywoke called out by someone of intelligence, experience and articulation warms the cockles of my nerdy geek (or is it geeky nerd?) heart. I almost wish we could go back to the days when genre projects were largely ignored and the gems may have been few and far between but they were fairly obvious and you could tell that even those that weren't the best at least were made with care and maximum effort. Now, there's so much fool's gold and costume jewelry to sift through to find the genuine gems, it almost makes the search disheartening. Put it is still satisfying to find that hidden gem once in a while, and exclaim, 'This is awesome! I thought they weren't allowed to make movies (shows) like this anymore!'
This admittedly inspires me to focus on building my own original story ideas and finding a way to get more invested in them. Because if the mainstream generation is failing to reach an audience, it would be a hilarious vengeance to rise up and overtake their own audience from the shadows as we fill in a specific demographic that mainline Hollywood ignores. Even if we don't reach mainstream, we're still ten times more successful than they are, because people actually like our stories.
I am not a comic book fan, but there is a comic series (don't know the name) that a comic writer started because he got tired of all the garbage. He has gotten millions of Kickstarter donations, making the usual suspects angry. Oh, and the irony is he is black. The book I am holding, to self promote, is a scifi novel "Icarus Falling" I wrote because I am a nerd. No SJW to be found; just adventure. My point is, we true nerds need to start doing our own thing and support others like us. Time to walk away from the big bully companies.
@@n.d.m.515 I think the comic series you're talking about is called "ICOM" and it's specifically from the new "Rippaverse" comics established by YoungRippa35. That's exactly what i'm talking about.

There are no magazines containing fiction stories based on Women’s or Gender Studies.

One of my favorite characters is Evie from the 1999 Mummy! She's not really a fighter, but knew how to use her brain.
Which movies are making people feel bad for being white straight Europeans?

Nor probably should it be.)
When these tossers make a work, the only "conversation" is a whole lot of public flagellation about how racist or sexist the public is for not watching the movie. You would think they'd have learned from the music industry that attacking your customers simply isn't a good idea. But these uncreatives don't care. They're just trying to get a paycheck for another day and then move along to the next gig before anyone realizes they don't have a creative bone in their body.
Yea I would use the term “creative types” loosely
@@thewiirocks Actually I think most of the 'creative types' sincerely believe in the nonsense they espouse. The problem is they were hired on the basis ideological soundness rather than on talent, therefore writers are hired who don't even know the basics of drama.
Damn, how true.

Ya see the big difference between nerds and sjws is:
When nerds enjoy something, they want to *share that enjoyment with others.*
Sjws hate everything and want something geared only to *what they enjoy.*
People with no coherent argument resort to abusive epithets. It's the twitter twits' bread and butter.
But how dare you assume that a woman can't have fragile masculinity? Why are you trying to limit women? 🙂
Power mostly, a sick desire for tons of power.
My main problems with the woke are their Left fascism and proud racism. Being irrational selfish jerks doesn't help their cause either.

They shall not pass.
That's a true truth. "Oh no, I'm going to be unpopular! Where's the Mountain Dew?"
"we know the lore." As a fellow female D&D player, I agree. We can be obsessive over our favorite hobbies. Dare to ruin those hobbies and face our wrath--or withheld credit cards!
They don't realize just how individualist we are and that we always marched to the beat of our own drums, as cliched as that sounds.
and like every bully who gets a taste of their own medicine in being dominated by facts and reality they start to bitch and act like the victim.
Humility to the point of self-deprecation in some cases. >///~///
Hey, I guess that means I'm a nerd!
Exactly!
They are trophies to be mocked and belittled. Like the roman soldiers painting a giant dick on Heracles.
Yes, I’m glad I graduated back when we learned CRITICAL THINKING not “CRITICAL” THEORY.
The companies somehow decided (due to polls?) that it's safer to twist everything than to produce good content.
You’ve become one of my favorite voices championing nerd culture. Thank you for your thoughts and insight.
Bro this isn’t championing nerd culture. This is petty pathetic whining. The equivalent to sjws for angry nerds.
His last rant was absolutely brilliant. 👍
@@TrueGamer22887 obviously, you have already taken your 30 pieces of silver. Go away, now.
@Coco Crisp
What do you want him to have told us then? "Take up your arms and attack the sjws"? 🤨
We used to say the even numbered Star Trek movies were the good ones.
I think they have a list somwhere and it looks something like:
-Make sure there is a strong black whamen
-Make sure that if you put any men in the video, make them a loon, idiot or evil
-Find all previous movies made by white men and make sure the white males are replaced
-Make sure that in every movie, you have dialog in scenes which promote 'breaking boundaries'
-Make sure you have an LGBTQ character and/or mention in the movie
-Make sure white people are always receiving advice from POCs
-Make sure you are virtue signaling in all things
Something like that.
Forgot one: prep virulent attacks on the fanbase to be released a minimum of one week before launch day.
This is probably very accurate.
Amazon has literally a List that goes kinda like this
Can’t fault this.
A few other suggestions come to my mind for the reverse engineered guide to woke story telling:
- A female character shall never be in need of being saved ( and even less by a man)
-No love story between a man and a woman should be allowed;
- in every group or army of fighters, half the characters, minimum, shall be women. These groups shall always be lead by women;
- No white male character shall be allowed to poke fun at any character from an oppressed minority, instead he shall be taught a lesson...
_Now everything has to be depressing (movies, TV, Books and Comics)._
It was the same in the early 1970s, in the era of stagflation, the Vietnam War winding down, the Energy Crisis. Films were gritty. But by the mid-1970s the tide began to turn, with films such as _Jaws_ and _Star Wars_ bringing in simple, entertaining stories told well, and earning big box office receipts as a result.
I love _Singin' in the Rain_ ! Just a group of immensely talented triple threats singing, dancing, and having a great time entertaining people.

4. Collect comics or manga
15. You attend various nerdy conventions on regular basis
It just so happens that comics, speculative fiction and RPGs were things that were rarely massively popular
The LOTR films work because Peter Jackson was a Nerd.

One sentence here spoken deserves all your attention and should be taught all over the world:
Learn "how" to think and not "what" to think.
And this is what is taught in science and engineering in opposite to indoctrination from gender studies.
"We were taught how to think, they were taught what to think."
It doesn't get much more accurate than this.

I'd argue it was the opposite.
Small correction - that was Simon Pegg, not Sean Penn 🙂

Right, right, the company's behavior. Certainly not the shitty human being's behavior! You're cool with Disney sweat shops, but not that!
Dude still watch the content. Just do so over the high seas. Seek international waters. Enjoy their content but don't let them enjoy your money.
I'm reminded of the time when Disney _didn't_ fire Vanessa Hudgens.
I could tell. I've been on the receiving end of enough contempt to recognize it, and over time have learned to deal with it.
Whenever I would mention the lack of world-building in the sequel trilogy, Redditites would reply with “It’S tHe StOrY tHaT MaTtErs.”
Well lo and behold, the story sucks too lol.
I watched that previous video and was blown away! I was even more blown away when I was watching Nerdrotic and Heelsvsbabyface and saw them promoting it and sending their audience to this channel. Now that's some respect!
I love The Frantics!!! I've never heard a skit of theirs that wasn't funny. Extremely talented and hilarious troupe. I had great respect for you before, but now that has been turned up to 11!
"The Shadow that bred them can only mock, it cannot make: not real new things of its own. I don't think it gave life to the orcs, it only ruined them and twisted them; and if they are to live at all, they have to live like other living creatures."
Keep on fighting the good fight!
It's nice to be old enough and financially secure to start telling the truth.
More executives or department heads need to come out and point out thr bullshit in our entertainment media.
PS: yes, OUR because we are the customer damnit
Great videos sir. Keep it going! Nice to hear what used to be common sense. Sad we have to re-learn it.
The original Blade runner had some of the most stunning hand done effects, truly a masterpiece that showed it's heritage going back to metropolis.
Passion vs Hate
The popular girl that rejected the nerd for the jock, the nerd became wealthy & successful while she got pregnant & became alone & now wants the nerd but hates the fact, he doesn't want her.
Good vs evil
You can't fix or create something that you are only working on because you hate it.
"i clapped like a good seal at this obvious and pointless fanservice that didnt go anywhere and was there just to get me to clap."
Thanks!
Thanks so much. You are very kind.
We won't talk about Congo.
sh you've practiced tae kwon leap....
And to Pedowood's lawyers, leave not a boot to the head, but a rabid Tasmanian devil to be placed in their trousers.
He's more successful because he's fulfilling a niche market and giving them exactly what they want, stories, not politics within stories. I rest my case. XP And glad to see you supporting REAL content creators and writing your own content. Thanks for keeping the inspiration goin' bro. ;3
The fact there are still people like you out there makes me feel better about wanting to create something simply because its a story or universe that i want to enjoy
