It will fade as turmeric isnt a permanent dye, Ive taught eco dyeing. Beautiful colours and you can crushed iron tablets to change the ph value and change the colour. As with most eco made dyes changing the mix with metal oxides gives a whole spectrum of colours. Turmeric is cool and easy to use but drying in the sun and general contact with the sun will fade the colour greatly and as stated before will fade with washing. But have fun!
Would vinegar help to set or fix the colour so that when you wash it don't get white? I usually wash shirts with turmeric stains and the go completely white in the washing machine.
@@irenecordoba8387 there isnt anything to stop it fading im afraid. I suggest cold washes and then at a later time a re-dye. If you really want that permanence then I would suggest a permanent shop bought dye. k t vinegar is not a mordant, it is a modifier. Most food stuffs do not have any permanence on fabric unless you use a mordant. Love the blazer!! Tip: for colour retaining..you can put a mordant in while boiling (easiest mordant is salt ). Also soaking in while the dye is boiling..soaks better and retains well too.😊 Hope that helps somebody!
Everything turned out kind of pretty, if subtle, which is not a bad thing. They all look really nice, even the red wine to grey one, though I think my fave is the soft pinks of the avo dye... :)) Sunlight can "bleach" the tone of a lot of red based foods, that's why you should always put anything that has been stained with a tomato-based sauce in the sun to dry after washing it. That's probably why the red wine shirt turned grey, but I really like the softness of those tones of grey. I'm a bit of a pastels chick. ;) One of the best natural food dyes would have to be the Mulberry. As a kid we had a giant Mulberry tree in the back corner of our yard, and we would always be in that tree...and mate, did it ever stain everything!...it'd get all over our skin, and take days to wear off, and would we ever cop it off mum if we got it on our clothes, especially anything light coloured. I managed to "ruin" my best white sundress...she was ropeable!!... :)} *a tip for getting mulberry stains off your skin - rub the stain with a green (unripened) mulberry, it neutralises the redness of the ripe berry...and Silkworms love the leaves...aahhh, another childhood memory...
This is such a great video!! I’ve been gathering all my veggies and fruit skins for my compost but now....I’m going to save some avocado skins for that gorgeous color! I also know that coffee is a beautiful brown color too.
Wow, everything turned out great. I do lots of tie dye, never with natural dyes. Going to try a shirt tomorrow.. roast the beets and then use the juice. My daughter has painted with the juice
Makes me wonder how the beets would have turned out... I'm so going to have to try natural dying. Been wanting to for years but just haven't been confident enough to to try it. Since I don't have much else to do, now seems like a good time and it's a good reason to make guacamole!!
I love all of them especially the sweater turned beautifully . I have tried the avocado before and I had the same issues but I will try it again and drying on the sun. Thank you 🙏🏾
Im not into tie dye, but I love, love this. I love how you try different methods and projects. You will never be boring. BTW I love the sweat shirt..they look like feathers to me...like a dream catcher. Youre the best, thank you!!!
Very interesting!! Do the turmeric coloured clothes change colour when something acidic gets spilled on them? And what could we use alternatively to sunlight if we don't live in sunny LA but cloudy UK??
Love this so much Orley!!!! I totally shared it with my twin sister. And more importantly with my girlfriend Iris. Who goes into the bush looking for natural sources to dye with. She gets sheep wool or alpaca wool & then create these natural dyes from mushrooms & lichen. I shared this video of yours with her as more inspiration. The fact that you discovered that the sun can deepen the colour of these natural dyes is awesome.
How fun! I did bleach dye, and it worked. I have been thinking to order some dye. However, after watching your video, I think i will give food color dye a try.
I loved how the carpet runner turned out. The color looked awesome and I'd sport that just about any place in my home. I'm gonna try this in the summer this year woohoo! 😊😊🤠
This is so cool. I've dyed yarn with coffee and tea, (they both come out brown/beige) and I feel like that would blend well with the turmeric and avocado. I've also seen a youtube video using onion skins (boiled) to get a burnt orange shade. I could picture a whole brown-orange-yellow ombre look.
Great video Orly! I actually loved the way the sweat shirt turned out. They all turned out very nice. Thanks sharing this hack.. I think I'm going to try it. 😊😉💕
I loved it, I wonder how it would turn out if you use matcha or something else, I’ll definitely try this with everything in my kitchen hahahahaha for sure, thank you so much!
Turmeric will definitely fade, especially with sun exposure. That’s called a fugitive dye. Avocado is subtle but it will stick around if you use a mordant. Onions give a fab yellow/orange that will stick really well and doesn’t require a mordant
This is so cool! (Low-key still waiting for that tie dye hoodie...) Although it doesn't matter if it didn't work out since I honestly love EVERYTHING you do!
Boil the red beets separately but not for too long to get a pretty pink. Now I have to try it in the sun! Trying banana peel right now because...I had some. Also rust dyeing.
Love all of them My favourite is the sweater. F.Y.I. for berries........crush them in a small amount of liquid. Let sit in liquid........ratio berries to water......you decide. Use liquid for the dye. Once again you have a cool project that gives sooooooo many options and results😊 🥰🌹🥰
Wow! Super cool! Do another video and try dried hibiscus flowers! Also, I think if you used just red beets but wash, peel and chop them first it would work.
Omg! Best video ever! I actually tie dyed this week! Love the natural dye. Thanks for sharing your talents with us! I live for Friday’s, simply love all your videos! Thanks again. Be safe, be well. 💜💜💜
Great video I loved this!! I'm thinking of using Red dried Chiles the kind you find in the Latin section or in a local Mexican Food Market? The food we can use is endless! I gotta try this Thank You!😀👍
Im sorry i had to stop ur video cause this is the most freaking beautiful sweater i love the yellow on it and the runner is gorgeous also...love love FREAKING LOVE 😍❤ back again i can really use this method on my "damaged" white shirts grrrr im loving this more omg ok ok no more pausing let's finish haha😂😂😂❤
Try andnuse black beans for blue and spinach for green. Also onion peels for light yellow and the beets wouldnhave been a nice purple. Use a mordant at the end.
What's the prognosis for fading? I love the idea of natural dyes, but am curious if they lose their color with future washing? Wonder if there's something you could wash it in/with to 'set' the color?
I would love to see a update of this project a few months from now. How much will it fade over time?
will do!

Thanks for that info!
Avocado blazer is the best. I like very much idea to use nature colours.
Love love love the avocado and the wine tees!!
Everything turned out kind of pretty, if subtle, which is not a bad thing. They all look really nice, even the red wine to grey one, though I think my fave is the soft pinks of the avo dye... :))

Omg gurllll... I love that yellow turtle neck. That color came out fantastic.
Love that you used natural foods and spices! So inspiring!
Dying with kitchen scraps is so fun! That's a cool hack with the sun too!
Awesome video and I learned a great salad recipe too! Thank you for sharing.
This is such a great video!! I’ve been gathering all my veggies and fruit skins for my compost but now....I’m going to save some avocado skins for that gorgeous color!
I also know that coffee is a beautiful brown color too.

Wonderful colours
omggggggggggggg the turmeric jumper is SO SO SO SO SO good!!!! I love a yellow that kind of leans to the mustard/brown side!!
I love how the spiral turned out very different, they all turned out cool.😃 I bet chili power would be a good one.
Ooohhhh! Now I'm gonna have to try that!
ooooh chili powder....or paprika??
@@OrlysChannel Paprika, I guess... It becomes a rich orange, if you use it in your cold process soap batch...
Saffron would produce a beautiful deep yellow to orange and you don't need a lot....I would guess about 10 strands in warm water to activate it
These are such pretty results!
My favorite things were the table runner, the spiral shirt, and the avocado shirt. Very cool ideas!
We need definitely a second part! I loved how the blazer turned out! I. So happy to see how your channel is growing in subscribers!
Makes me wonder how the beets would have turned out... I'm so going to have to try natural dying. Been wanting to for years but just haven't been confident enough to to try it. Since I don't have much else to do, now seems like a good time and it's a good reason to make guacamole!!
You should try it! If you use scraps, you don't even need to buy anything!
Orly is great but you can also find other resources on line too. Another technique which is awesome is shibori with indigo dye. Good Luck!
beets go blue, so do red cabbage (different shade)
I love all of them especially the sweater turned beautifully . I have tried the avocado before and I had the same issues but I will try it again and drying on the sun. Thank you 🙏🏾
I love the color blue. Any suggestions on what foods to use?
You’re amazing Orly... all came out beautifully and it’s all natural woow🤩
Thank you so much 🤗
Im not into tie dye, but I love, love this.
Love this ✌️my fave part is when you dropped the wine and then just threw your shirt on top of it on the ground. We could totally be friends🤣
I enjoyed the video. May I ask about the fabric choices? What materials would this work on? I am sure cotton and linen for sure.
Yes. Quick and easy. Thanks. I’m going to do the a sweatshirt in creating rainbow effect.

Love love watching you orley. You come up w/ some awesome ideas.
OMG.... so nice to see you again! Love, love the color from the avocados! Thank you for sharing. ☺
This is wonderful. I'm going to see if my girls fancy having a go at this. Would you do a part two of natural dyes sometime please?
Great video! Would you do a DIY using food coloring? Does it work the same was natural foods or not?
So cute!! I love the avocado tee! I’m totally making it soon!
How fun! I did bleach dye, and it worked. I have been thinking to order some dye. However, after watching your video, I think i will give food color dye a try.
OMG love it!!!
'I didnt like my beets so I made a salad!'
🤣🤣🤣
She is brilliant!
hahahah
Love them all
I loved how the carpet runner turned out. The color looked awesome and I'd sport that just about any place in my home. I'm gonna try this in the summer this year woohoo! 😊😊🤠
Dying is so satisfying! I use Rit Dye. But this was fun to watch!!
Thank you. This is the best natural tutorial I've seen. You've shown me that the sun helps brighten them.
Wooow I have to try this technique 😍😍😍
This is so cool. I've dyed yarn with coffee and tea, (they both come out brown/beige) and I feel like that would blend well with the turmeric and avocado. I've also seen a youtube video using onion skins (boiled) to get a burnt orange shade. I could picture a whole brown-orange-yellow ombre look.
I have used turmeric & avocado but I also tried red bush tea (rooibos) and fresh mint leaves
Great video Orly! I actually loved the way the sweat shirt turned out. They all turned out very nice. Thanks sharing this hack.. I think I'm going to try it. 😊😉💕
I WANT THAT RUNNER! Love ❤️
Love tie dye on a blazer!
I loved it, I wonder how it would turn out if you use matcha or something else, I’ll definitely try this with everything in my kitchen hahahahaha for sure, thank you so much!
oooh Matcha!!!
Hi! Thank you sooo much. I'm having so much fun. I tried them all and I did also red cabbage, it turn blue.
oooh did the color really stay strong?
Your shirts turned out so well - LOVE IT! I have to try natural dying, too.
So so good! Definitely going to give this a whirl!
I love this! also what color lipstick are you wearing?
Our op shops aka thrift stores are open again now so I'm keen to dye some preloved clothing! Love the jacket & yellow rib....so gorgeous!
Very helpful! I love how you always share what worked and what didn't. Plus, who knew that avo skins are purple?? Pretty cool!
Do these colors withstand multiple washes !? Detergent doesn't get rid of the color ?
nope!! I tested the turmeric out on a towel and washed multiple times. My sister washed her avocado tee a few times and color stuck aronund
Turmeric will definitely fade, especially with sun exposure. That’s called a fugitive dye. Avocado is subtle but it will stick around if you use a mordant. Onions give a fab yellow/orange that will stick really well and doesn’t require a mordant
Parabéns, Ficou lindo 💕
Awesome video Orly!! I wish I knew before dump the avocado peels, but I know now. Thank you. Regards from Gran Canaria.
This is so cool!
(Low-key still waiting for that tie dye hoodie...) Although it doesn't matter if it didn't work out since I honestly love EVERYTHING you do!
Me: *empties the fridge*
Mom: Do I really have to ask you..?
Me: *I'M DIYing.*
Your sister is just as pretty and sweet as you are 😍❤
hahahah love this
Absolutely loved must of it but the runner was my favorite. That would very expensive in one of the more well known stores! Thank you!
All the clothes turned our awesome great colors
Boil the red beets separately but not for too long to get a pretty pink. Now I have to try it in the sun! Trying banana peel right now because...I had some. Also rust dyeing.
How long did you leave the avacodo skins and pits in the freezer?
Love this ! Was everything you used cotton ? Do you think it would work on silk too ?
It all looks sooo good. But! My number one question. Does the color transfer?
once it's washed I think you should be good. We'll see whether they fade at all
Is food coloring good too?🤔 I have 2 blazers that got white marks from sun on 1 sleeve
Looooove this and you Orly!!!! 💞
more dye vidz plz!!
Hey Orly Happy Friday! Love how this turned out!!! Stay safe.
Hey gorgeous could you do a Versace tie dye Jean copy pls
What fabric contents did you use for the wine?
Will the clothes retain these colours after washing?
YES!!! ☀️ omg thank you. Just started researching food dyes this week and 💥 there you are 🙏💪🏻💃😎💕
Love all of them
My favourite is the sweater.
F.Y.I. for berries........crush them in a small amount of liquid. Let sit in liquid........ratio berries to water......you decide. Use liquid for the dye.
Once again you have a cool project that gives sooooooo many options and results😊
🥰🌹🥰
Those are amazing tho!! Thanks for showing everything
Wow! Super cool! Do another video and try dried hibiscus flowers! Also, I think if you used just red beets but wash, peel and chop them first it would work.
You diy's are always 👍 good.
Thank you! 😊
So creative idea and the result is just amazing!
Omg! Best video ever! I actually tie dyed this week! Love the natural dye. Thanks for sharing your talents with us! I live for Friday’s, simply love all your videos! Thanks again. Be safe, be well. 💜💜💜
thanks for watching them!!
I’m going to do this with my students!! Awesome!
Really Kool! I wanted to make a tie dye with food video as well! I love the blazer 🙌🏻👌🏻
You should!
Definitely want to try natural tie dying! Particularly the tumeric
This is such a clever idea!!! I've been really wanting to try out some tie dye but it can be pretty expensive!! Thanks for the inspo!!! 😊🥰 xx
I didn't understand which avocado that turned out the best. Frozen or natural?
I literally watched all your videos tonight and I got so crazy inspired!! Omg keep up 🎨😍🥳
We’ve done this natural method with Easter eggs! We cut the beets into small pieces and boiled it. Purple cabbage makes a beautiful blue.
Spiral sweater is my favorite for how perfectly sparse it is
Great video I loved this!! I'm thinking of using Red dried Chiles the kind you find in the Latin section or in a local Mexican Food Market? The food we can use is endless! I gotta try this Thank You!😀👍
Oh how yummy!! I can't wait to do this.
Omg thanks so much for this video can’t wait to try it with my kids
Thanks!!!! I'm on to turmeric !!!!😀
Do you think the die from your items would transfer on another fabric if you layer?
Dye. 😛
I loved it and I am going to do it
Best tie dye I 've ever seen👍
Orlyyyyyyyyyyy!! I totally lost you and couldn't remember your channel /name! i was looking and today fiiiiiiiiiiiiiinally found you again!! yay!!
I did one shirt with tissue paper and it's beautiful 💜 i will def try this!! It's so cool💙💙 love your videos and much love from Colombia 😊
try salt bath for all of them to see if the colour stays intact! loved the sweater most!

That yellow sweater WOW! Gonna give Turmeric a try :)
What's the prognosis for fading? I love the idea of natural dyes, but am curious if they lose their color with future washing? Wonder if there's something you could wash it in/with to 'set' the color?
some people said to use a mordant but apparently you dont need that with avocado as the tannins in it do the trick... not 100% sure though.
Omg I can’t wait to watch this one!
How long does the color last after a few washes?
Nice! Balsamic/Red Wine Vinegar May work as well. 😉
